  1. I had a script that worked on W7 - this was copied to the local Windows folder by a GPO, and the same GPO added a registry entry that fired the script off on login. Worked fine for yearsI've since discovered that this just won't work in W10 - the .vbs file is never copied, no error is ever logged and only manually copying the file works. Is this a 'security' feature of 10, blocking an gpo from copying files over that it doesn't like?
  2. This is why I’m baffled, I’ve got someone else to check the setting to make sure I’m not going mad, and I see each ping hitting the smoothwall network interface as the leds blink in sequence, but it times out. And trying to ping the laptop from the smoothwall also fails, which implies something is going on with the smoothie interface
  3. Yup wifi definitely off, and only connecting to the internal smoothwall port. I have tried the other internal ports (used for a cashless system/wifi etc) but still the sameI've logged into the smoothwall and run setup to check the ip addresses and allow admin access on all local ports, but still nothing - it even blocks ping which I didn't configure on the firewall when it was a 'live' unit.
  4. Bit of an odd problem here, we upgraded our smoothwall from an utm3000 to and s10, and migrated the settings over to the s10. All good and working nicely! Now at the point of migration the old smoothwall (based on a dell server) was simply shut down and disconnected. I powered it back up (offline!) today as I wanted to login to check a couple of settings before I wiped the drives and re-used the server. This is where it gets odd - plugging a laptop directly into the old utm and configuring an ip on the same address range should let me access the web interface, but it doesn't. I can't even ping the address, nor any of the other addresses used on the other ports (i.e external, byod etc)I've disabled proxies and the laptop is configured correctly on the same address range, and the laptop works fine with other connections, so is there some reason my old smoothwall is now blocking connections, I know its expired but I'm only trying to connect locally before I wipe the serverI've setup plenty of utm's before and this method has always worked, would the expired license block all connections by any chance? Apart from configuring the laptop to use the same ip range/subnet theres not a lot else to do.
  5. Cheers, we’ve got a TMG and a smoothwall Utm, but only the utm ip seems be getting hit. As we use that for filtering I have a couple of students I suspect would do something like this!
  6. Which firewall are you using? We’ve got the standard virgin router and a smoothwall. You’d think virgin would be able to see our connection being flooded by incoming traffic.
  7. We (and several local primaries) seem to seeing a lot of outages recently, and according to Virgin ours is due to a ddos type of attack flooding our bandwidthObviously its not something we can do anything about, as its external and Virgin don't seem to have any solution eitherI'm just wondering if any virgin customers are seeing similar issues, its only been happening here in the last few weeks, and its intermittent as well - sometimes nothing for days and then an hour or so of no connection/poor speeds?
  8. We downloaded LTSC 2019 again to try a new image, and it failed sysprep because Bitlocker had enabled itself, is that a new thing? as we've never had bitlocker automatically enable itself before, but we've mainly been used Edu.
  9. That's exactly what we see, but we do allow sharing! I noticed it changed to our domain as well, but I thought that's the way Google Forms worked - open a form and the response is created in your Drive? I'm not sure how exactly it works in that circumstance.I think the error is incorrect - we have sharing working with others so I know its not us blocking it.
  10. That's what I had - then I changed it to the other way around but its made no difference. It looks like the fault is coming from their side, as the error isn't from google - and we can't enable sharing anywhere else, it also happens out of school so its not down to filtering or inspection!Sometimes you just have to admit defeat!
  11. Can I ask how your sharing is setup? We have On at the Top domain level, then Off for students and On for Staff at the Organisation level - so overriding the default for each group of users
  12. Thanks for checking - we don't blacklist any domains and the Sharing option is just switched to ON (with warnings) - its definitely seems to be just from our GSuite domain. I don't think google support really understood the issue though
  13. This is the url that we get blocked on: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe20agjDbtFp9cd2vHEAl-04IyebUAcG2qgMQY95_9yBBczMQ/viewform The only requirement is that you have Gmail account, to upload a response.
  14. We have routing between the wireless VLAN and the wired VLAN the printers are on at the core/gateway - the mobile devices can ping the printers OK, but the HP app simply fails to connect.
  15. I'm reluctant to spend too much time getting the ropey bonjour to work across subnets as it means all the airprint printers (and Airserve devices) will then be visible to everyone. We're actually looking at papercut for next year now so maybe that's a better option anyway
  16. Yes, and weirdly that works fine! Its only the external one thats the problem - it must be down to our domain as we can Sign in using a personal Gmail account.
  17. I think the way it works is, that when you create a form and share it, it then opens in your drive to enter the details, which is where the sharing side of things comes in. What I don’t understand is that even with sharing enabled it comes up with the error.
  18. This is a bit of an odd one and I'm a bit stumped - on our G Suite we have sharing outside the domain enabled for staff. Some have been given a link to a Google form on an external site to fill in, once the link is clicked you have to be signed in as a GMail user. Once they sign in as their work account they are told they can't proceed 'because you don't have permission to share documents outside of your domain' - the form opens up as an address on our GSuite domain ie https://docs.google.com/a/domain/forms/blahblah So is it their site that's at fault? It will let them proceed if they use a GMail account that is not under our domain (i.e a personal) one but they should be able to use their work one as we have Sharing set to ON - Google support suggested Link Sharing should be switched on (and wait 24 hours) but link sharing isn't anything to do with the Forms I assume the link opens up a forms template in the users own GSuite account and submitting the form effectively shares it, but I can't see anywhere else I would need to enable this?
  19. I've never managed to get a link to 'This PC' to work on my tile layout. I've done the same thing, put a shortcut on a network share and point to that in the xml, but it generally just doesn't appear - very rarely it will appear, but several tiles over from where it should be! Another reason I'm building an LTSC 2019 image next
  20. We did something similar - using a Gmail account, which we setup specifically to generate the emails and I remember you have to set it to allow apps with lower security to access it, otherwise the emails aren't sent.
  21. We used to have Sage on site, but moved to Sage cloud, which in my view is a pain as its a stupid Windows app - its not really a cloud system when it downloads 300Mb odd of files and installs itself is it! Plus I had to change all sorts of policies and security settings just to the damn think work - as SRP/Applocker were blocking the executables from running, as they run from the users profile.
  22. The hp one doesn't support subnets as far as I can see. - - - Updated - - - No - but we are considering moving to it as part of a new managed system, this might be another reason to do it
  23. Our iOS devices are all meraki MDM so maybe a profile is the way to do it. I've tried the HP app and it doesn't find the printer even when specifying the IP address (and I can ping it from the same device!) Another symptom of ipads being designed for home use!
  24. Has anyone managed to get airprint to work with their wireless devices across seperate vlans or subnets? We've got xirrus wireless on a seperate vlan, and multiple vlans for computers but as they're all school devices they can see each other through the router. When trying to use an HP printer app to find a printer on the network this doesn't work, neither does airprint on the same printer. The routing is pretty simple - both devices can ping each other so I know they're visible I know airprint is pretty ropey and designed for home/flat networks but has anyone found a workaround? I don't mind having to manually add the printer as I'm not bothered about getting bonjour broadcasts enabled across the network.
  25. We cut and ran from the LEA about 9 years ago - brought SIMS in house and bought our own fibre internet and Smoothwall UTM. Apart from updates etc we're still running the same kind of setup and its worked well. As already mentioned there are sometimes things the LEA provide that you might need to consider, financial systems, BMS/heating controls, alarms, phones etc when switching to another supplier
