We already have 4.6.1 and it doesn’t work!

B-gger, in a way I was hoping it was affecting a lot of people! Lemmy rules!

Is anyone's Teacher App actually working at the moment? Since the change last night ours all fail to connect and the Packages in the SSM are all showing 'Exception' type errors despite everything being up to date As Capita aren't likely to respond quickly, I'm just wondering if any of your Teacher apps are still working, and if so what are they hosting your SIMS on? We're Server 2012 currently and the App worked fine until this morning ;-)

[sims] Update to the SIMS Teacher App - Timings
Sheridan replied to cathycolless's topic in MIS Systems
I can't get the Teacher App or my Admin console to work now - and no response from capita. Guess its a widespread problem. Does the Admin site not connect back through to our onsite SIMS server, which might explain why that's down as well. I've just checked and we've got .NET 4.6.1 as well -

Thanks, at least I know the auto update was working! -
[sims] Update to the SIMS Teacher App - Timings

Same here - after making sure the SSM was set to update automatically, and all Teacher Apps were up to date, it was a waste of time as every single one now says 'services are offline' Logged with capita, but annoying that checking well in advance was pointless! Anyone know the latest versions of the SSM Packages? I've got Login Service for Teacher App 4.1.95.0 and Data Service for Teacher App 4.1.150.0 but can't tell if they're the latest versions or not. -
Yup, either that or I delete the domain, wait and start from scratch again in a few months!

This school doesn't currently have OVS (but may do later) so we're only trying to get the free standard A1 for Education - the only subscriptions listed are commercial paid ones I've contact MS, but they have just sent me instructions on how to add a subscription....so I'm going around in circles!
-
We setup up the trial with the startup 'onmicrosoft' domain, and added the actual school domain at this point. Due to various reasons the A5 trial had expired by the time the real domain was validated So now we have an expired A5 subscription and I can't see a way to add A1 in - nor can we start the process again as the domain is now correctly registered!
-
I setup a 365 Domain for a primary, and it defaulted to the E5 trial. By the time I'd got their domain registered with DNS etc and validated the A5 trial had expired and is now disabled. Now, the problem is I want to add a free A1 for Education to this now registered domain, but I can't find anyway to do it, only paid Subscriptions appear in the list, and we can't go through the process of registering for the free O365 again as the domain is already registered! Does anyone know if there's a way around this, or is that domain now lost in the dark side!

We've effectively done that - clearing their profile and trying on 2 PCs they've never used before, as well as a MacBook - it just seems to follow the User's mailbox independent of device/os/browser I'll try @FN-GMs idea - but it will have to be out of hours as they're an admin user and reliant on email
-
Interesting tactic, I'll give that a try, wonder why it worked though?

We have a user who having an annoying issue when accessing Gmail in Chrome - when they click onto their Inbox or Sent items, and search for anything it loads the first page of results but 'Loading' stays at the top of the screen. At this point if they try to open a message or attachment it flips back to their inbox When the Loading message is stuck on the screen, pressing the Next Page > button clears it, but it comes back every time they go to Sent items, or search again. I've done all the obvious - cleared their profile, tried 2 other different PCs, tried IE, tried Chrome on Macos and its always the same. Is it possible the fault is at the mailbox end? I've logged a call with Google but I suspect they will simply say its our problem, even though its only happening to this one user. They have a fairly large mailbox (5Gb) but mine is about the same size and it doesn't happen to me. Nobody has any Labs options or plugins enabled - and it just seems to have started recently for them.

I've setup a O365 for one of our primary schools, and let the A5 trial expire. So we're now trying to add an A1 free to their domain. The problem is when I login as the Global Administrator and try to Add this subscription I get the error: "It looks like you don't have permission to make purchases. Please contact your admin." Err, I am the sole user, and sole admin? I'm at a loss as how to work around this, as MS support isn't much cop for the free subscriptions.

Milestone here, £300 for 35 cameras but been very reliable and easy to use.

We imaged our HS macs with DeployStudio and it seemed to work OK? Our DS is still running on an older 9.5 server though. We imaged them as there was a fair bit of software on, but then manage them with Profile Manager. Did you update the (.nbi) boot images in DeployStudio as I know we had to do that to get it to connect and copy the image over.

Hardly your fault a teacher is stupid enough to a) have their work email on their personal device and b) have notifications switched on and c) not mute their phone at night! Would they have complained if a Facebook notification email woke them up!
-
Similar to me, I have personal email only on my phone, and have access to work email on my ipad at home - with notifications off. I choose not to read work emails unless something I'm expecting or waiting for.
-
Thing is, we don’t advise teachers put their work email on their personal one, but they do it for convenience at work. I don’t do that, so only check emails during working hours or when I want to do something specific. I’d love to see some of these teachers tell an A&E nurse how overworked they are....[emoji3]

Bit of an odd request from our SLT, but they have asked if we can prevent access to email (or the sending and receiving of emails) on our G Suite domain between certain hours (i.e 8pm until 6am for example) It seems to be driven from some desire to stop staff 'working from home' - although I think they'll find those people are in the minority, and it seems a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut scenario to me! I could have done this with our old hosted Exchange server, but can't see anyway (without paying into a third party system) to do this with G Suite Before I report this back, I was just checking that I hadn't missed an option in G Suite to do this?
-
Ah that might be a factor, as ours tend to move around a bit more! We have a 300Mbps connection so I don't think that would be an issue. We only delete profiles that are inactive for 6-7 weeks (i.e a full term) so the profile retention seems to be the biggest need
-
Do they sign in after logging in to the computer? And you don't have any issues with that in normal usage? My concerns are like those above, signing in and the synching speed. In the it suites we'll see multiple logins during the day.
-
We're a GSuite school, with accounts synched from AD with GDCS (not passwords) and I'm looking to the possibility of using File Stream for all users to access their Drive through Explorer. Has anyone done this? It works fine for single user systems, but presumably their would be a login element to this. I'd be interested in anyone's experiences if they have gone down this route.

Ahem, numpty error alert! My chrome browser that I was using to search had frozen on that tab - just the admin tab oddly. Clearing chrome and restarting and they're now appearing! I'll get my coat.....

I'm revisiting chromebooks as an option (instead of ipads!) and have a test one - so far I'm pretty impressed. One thing I'm not sure how to do is use the Pinned Apps - i.e make sure the core apps are on the bottom taskbar of the chrome book when the user logs in. I've viewed the setting in GSuite, but the three options Chrome Web Store, Domain Apps and Specify a Custom App don't show the basic apps I want to pin (such as docs, sheets, classroom, gmail etc) Am I missing a trick here? I would have thought these were the most used apps in a chrome os deployment?
