I didn’t get this working the way I wanted, even moving sixth formers into their own google OU and changing it there didn’t work. I gave up in the end as we don’t have a lot of chromebooks!
-
We looked at some part-ex deals a few years back and generally speaking they all offered around 25-30% less than the estate agents valuation, which is an amount we couldn't afford to drop.
-
We have a batch of chromebooks (or is it a cloud of chromebooks!?) and our sixth form students have a Chrome user policy (set in the G Suite admin) that doesn't restrict YouTube. However when they open youtube it always opens in restricted mode. We also have a Smoothwall which applies the restricted mode to students other than sixth form - and that's working OK on PCs, so I'm assuming I've missing something in the Chrome deployment settings. We don't have any other policies (apart from device, but theres no youtube settings in there) set anywhere so is there a setting somewhere else I've missed?

Cheers, looks like we might need about 60 licenses so its going to be a toss up which way is cheaper!

Can I just check that I'm correct in the assumption that MS Project is not included with OVS-ES Office Pro Plus package? It seems that its an additional extra, but I'm never 100% with MS licensing!

Windows 10 Start Menu broke by disabling applocker
Sheridan replied to Theldron's topic in Windows 10
We found that disabling cortana broke the start menu, so there must be a part of the applocker policy blocking it, or a a part whitelisting it that is now disabled. Have you created creating a default new applocker policy and applying that? That just allows Windows programs etc. -
I've just seen 12.2 starting to appear, I'll have to test a few of those as all the failing ones are 12.1.x!
-
Anyone else still having problems with this? We've got a few now on iOS 12.1.4 which will literally set the proxy to Off whilst using an app! I was on Safari on one and it worked, a few minutes later no internet access and I realised it had flipped again in Settings. Its a right pain, and must be iOS related, but Apple don't seem to have any solution for it

Spot on, thanks for the info - will now be gathering quotes for Unifi!
-
Even basic pricing is showing around £370 for a 5 pack of their AC Pro's - way better! The only thing I'm not sure about is we use Radius (Window server) to authenticate devices/users, and also have a guest system that uses vouchers and both are on different VLANS. The main VLAN is on the main network and the guest is straight out to our Smoothwall. From the brief look I've had at Unifi it seems to cover all this, but if there's any weirdness I know a lot of people have successfully moved to Unifi like yourself.

Cheers, sounds like you're in the same boat as me. I've just done a fag packet calculation and for £7k I can renew all 50 APs, and add another 20! - looks like Meru/Xirrus etc are just pricing to ditch Edu customers. We don't even have a controller - just cloud managed APs, so the price is ridiculous
-
It seems that Riverbed/Xirrus have decided to push education customers away now as well. A renewal figure of £7k+ for 12 months for our 50 APs is an absolute mickey take especially as it doesn't include any hardware, so I can only assume they don't want our custom. Has anyone else had stupidly expensive license quotes from them? Looks like I'll be a Unifi customer soon enough then.

I didn’t find out why, but I got rid of the errors by finding out which gpos it was objecting to and manually changing the folder permissions in sysvol to match those of the working gpos. After doing that all seems to be ok. I guess something went wrong in the replication at some point but I couldn’t find any other clues!

We’re moving away because the Edu. version is still full of crap that needs to be removed. As we move more and more to G Suite we can either go lightweight windows laptops or chromebooks. LTSC is at least an option we’d consider after wasting god knows how many hours trying to get printers to work in Edu, just to name one issue! I regard w10 ltsc as a usable ‘cloud’ laptop that offers a bit of the old way of doing things as well as the new. Long term I can see chromebooks taking over and w10 only really being on admin and support type of pcs.
-
Edu here too, and wishing we'd chosen LTSC, next build will be LTSC 2019 though!

I'm on 1803-1809 so a mix at the moment. I'd thought I'd updated the admx's and haven't seen that, maybe I should update them again!
-
Is there a way anyone knows of to hide the 'Devices' section of Devices and Printers from the Control Panel in W10? We leave the Printers part open, but would like to remove/hide the other devices (computer, monitor etc) but I can't find a GPO way of doing this.
-
Just to update this, tried @FN-GMs idea and it worked a treat! Surprised google support didn’t suggest that to be honest
-
Apparently back on again now! Although our teachers has lost confidence in it and have just started using their PCs again....
-
Yep ours is broken again as well, nice one capita. I don't think I'll be renewing this crappy app next year.
-
Where did you put your PAC file out of interest? Have you got on an intranet server or similar? I don't want to advertise the PAC file through DNS so I wonder if I can put the direct path to it in Meraki (such as http://server/proxy.pac)
-
To answer your original question, we simply gave up, adding yet another set of accounts wasn't worth the effort!
-
We're having this problem as well - mainly with ipads prepared with AC2 but managed with Meraki. Proxy is setting on the Wifi not as a global and is switching to 'Off' randomly. Putting it back to Manual and entering it again solves the problem. Using a Global proxy won't work for us either as these usually go home (staff) and its a bit annoying as they've worked for years! This now appears to be a widespread problem with all of our iPads, if they're on iOS 12 or later. Proxy randomly switching Off. Apple support appears to be offline at the moment as well. So we now have dozens of unusable ipads.
-
Bingo, got to speak directly to an MS support guy and they switched the domain over to edu, and now it’s in the list! It’s true you have to keep trying the support until you get through to someone who actually understands the scenario.
-
Yep I’ve just gone to 4.7 and it seems to be working so far!
