I had a frustrating one last week. The HDD in a laptop fell over. I recovered all the data (55GB that wasn't backed up anywhere else), bar the Word file the user had open at the time of failure but I was subsequently able to extract and save most of the contents of the corrupted file later on. I purchased a new HDD and slid Windows and everything else back on. I checked the laptop and everything was running okay. Easy job I thought. The user then asked for some additional software, so there I was installing Dropbox and Logmein. After I'd finished I then realised the laptop was now VERY hot and I discovered that the fan had now decided to die during that session As the laptop is four years old the user is now getting a new machine as we can't take a risk with it and I'll use it for mucking about with (I purchased a refurbished fan from eBay for £3). I just wish everything had fallen over at the same time as it would have saved me two days I really do hate computers sometimes.

Hi, never did find the right documentation. Ended up just taking it apart and making a note of where everything went.

We set the tests up and leave them to get on with it. If there's an issue they know where our office is :-)

Their computers consistently get good reviews in the likes of Computer Shopper. I've never purchased anything from them but know people who have. The kit looks okay. I did have a colleague who had a minor problem with a bespoke PC that they purchased from them. The graphics card had such a massive and heavy heatsink that gravity eventually pulled it out of the slot as no retainer had been fitted.

We live in the server room here and you get used to the noise. After 10 years you don't notice it anymore. It's not so loud that it causes issues for us thankfully. Our servers are seated on a wooden box plinth which absorbs quite a bit of the noise.

We were in Amsterdam a year back and someone in a flat adjacent to our hotel had set up a wireless access point with the same SSID as the hotel so they could harvest login details. The head of security at the hotel said it was a common problem.

I need a 802.11a Compatible Mini-PCI WiFi Card for a HP630 Notebook. The machine doesn't like the Intel 512AN_HMW cards we have previously successfully used in our HP620s... Does anyone on here know where to get hold of a Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter which is according to HP compatible with the unit? Couldn't seem to locate the exact same product via the mighty Google. Many thanks.

Currently with leeching Sky for BB at home but can't complain as the service rarely drops. £17.50pm for unlimited as I don't have their crass tv or telephone packages. Unlimited is very important as I usually download around 10GB a week and on top of that iPlayer is chugging away on various laptops and wiis and xboxes most evenings. Been looking at the Tesco unlimited offering which bundles line rental as well for £16.25pm for first 12 months then £20.25pm after. Speed checker reckons I'll get between 8 and 16 download speeds which is fine. The big question though is a simple one. Are Tesco any good? Is their service reliable? Is there anyone here with them? Moneysupermarket is showing their offering as a good deal. Feedback / advice much appreciated.
