what ever happened to decent branded PSU's of around 30 or less which had more than 1 or 2 SATA power connectors. (some only have one which is frankly barking!) as good as the antec green 380 is at almost £35.00 its more expensive than when i last brought a branded PSU. did use some CIT ones in the past but had a couple of iffy ones and not to keen on them for the office workstation.. Other favourites used by people on here that they would care to share?

used to be a program Called Aspex Draw had a hideous MSI package which used to set all the other MSI installed software to reinstall or set the aspex installer off...

the client keys are in a nice list on MS technet

hmmm so the KMS key isnt installed on the server or activated by the server. id go back and check that you have installed and acitvated the key on the KMS server using slmgr. i found a page of notes which i made to help me including some the KMS activation ids which are on the ms technet site if you want me to send them to you?

you can export printer Q's and settings using printbrm tool and then the same tool to import to another location. not tried it via a script/automated it

is this for setting up the KMS to it receiving and authing registrations? or just trouble shooting the client. @FN-GM's script is a good place to start as if the SID keys for your machines are the same this would cause a problem as each machine needs to be different for the process to be completed. when you say product key not found was that on the client or the server?

if your KMS is getting the requests this is good as it means that the firewall to your server&client isnt causing you a problem (id still turn it off on the client as a test also). is the KMS server actually activated properly? as i had an issue where someone had installed windows/office with a KMS key which then advertised itself and was attempting to handle requests when it wasnt activated. this link might be useful for all the switches for slmgr.vbs Slmgr.vbs Options id remove the key from the machine which is reporting and then rearm it. and see what happens, if it doesnt work then id go back to the server and check that the correct key type is installed and that its activated properly

are there activation requests on the KMS server from your clients in event viewer?

is the DNS entry present and correct for you KMS server?

it is a pain... however i just sysprep with the switch enabled and then ghost the image (looking at using MDT which does alot of the heavy lifting for you) the witch is also a good idea to enable as vista/7 with will not install/remove no signed drivers when the pc next boots. the AIK for windows is invaluable for creating and editing the files for sys prepping customising an image. The MDT white paper from MS makes heavy ready but there are other more cut down guides about to get MDT up and running

+1 on the KMS activation pretty straight forward to set up. if you havent got a KMS i think the Slmgr.vbs script will still activate keys not something i have tried mind

we have FS3920's and had them from when they were pretty much released. in terms of specification cost of toner TCO etc they come out alot better than HP or Epson. HOWEVER some of the early ones we have had issues where the network print servers stop responding and need the printer needs to be restarted (we contact kyocera about this but said it was a network issue) the newer ones which we brought dont appear to exhibit the problem however we are relying on people reporting issues. (i believe newer firmwares have resolved the problem) Kyocera support it pretty decent as you can actually speak to the chaps in the technical side and they are happy to talk via email without support calls. however things like firmware upgrades and the like are supposed to be done by engineers (as they recommend) flashing the firmware is pretty straight forward if you can get the upgrade. IMO they are not a patch on the older FS1800/1900/1920 in terms setting it up and leaving it, i have had to replace main charger units on a couple of FS3920's @around 30,000 where as the older FS1800's etc regularly doing 100,000+ without needing any attention. In this respect the newer models are a step backward as they dont seem to be as bullet proof. The newer KMNet tools etc are straight forward as well if you need to do any management which you dont want to do over the web interface (on thing imo has improved) Driver is a little larger than some but has support for 2k8 even for the old printers which i think is great. (i think the KDPL drivers are smaller but generally just use the default KX driver)

i drive around in a scruffy 1ltr micra which cost me £300 over 2 years ago and in that time i have serviced it and had a half sill put on it, never missed a beat. my view on cars are older and simpler are best for me to home service etc. id love another Mk2 golf or something of that age but cant afford it atm, also i mainly use the car for lugging stuff around. if a car needed £400 of MOT work doing id bin it its not worth it when some real bargains can be had for sub 500 now the government scrappage scheme isnt sucking all the quality motors out of the market.

you can set auto approval rules for "all pcs" or specific groups of machines you moved them into different folders, just by adding or editing the rules and clicking the specific groups you want.

i have found on machines with >4GB ram keeping a small page file for system dumps is still useful and i have noticed a problem with performance on either normal HDD/SSD. you can fix a min and max size to stop it from growing if windows decides the need.. and to be honest on a pc with 8GB of ram in the average home isnt going to be taxing that hardly so there isnt a need for a page file of any great size

you need the SQL 2005 Management Studio which should be on the installation DVD of SQL 2005.** you can download it Download: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details ** if you have the full version of SQL that is. and i dont think the SQL lite had it as part of its installer

I would say most of the functionality is the same from XP to 7 from what i have looked at so far. In fact to use it on 7 you might need to upgrade anyway to give you the support to work with the newer templates.

i dont think the CDNOTS plays very nice with new versions of IIS as i having been tinkering with Liberum to put it into one of our primary feeders, as it simple to look at and used which is something other bug tracking/helpdesk software isnt. shame they appeared to stop developing it.

still using it here, the reporting and recording tools are a real bonus along with the title checking etc. we have started looking at how it works with Win 7 and were suprised that there is currently just one set of policy/control template for it currently. We have queried this and all of a sudden seem to have had more contact with them, a while back we were talking directly to one or two of the developers but since the take over they appear to have disappeared.

if your using MDT i found that it ignored the regional settings specified in the unattend.xml but putting them in the deployment share options and it then read them correctly - for the initial setup/creation of the reference computer, bugged the hell out of me

For laptops which roam between home and school, we have a couple of shortcuts which apply some registry changes which the use can run depending on the location. not the most advanced method but works well enough (PAC setup would be more useful for changes to settings)

we have a couple of NEC's in D&T rooms which have an enclosure with extra filtration which activates when the projector is turned on, at the time they were twice the cost of normal install but they work really well.

had a similar issue with 7 not correctly getting the network type, turns out that for each user they needed to select what type of network it was for it to connect properly and get an IP (workgroup based Win7 starter) as there was only 1 accounts on the couple of laptops i just made the choice for them and its been ok for a few weeks, i believe you can force the behaviour in policy about how it treats new/existing networks

same here sat looking at the load character screen, played some SC2 instead... Odd that for a usually very polished release machines (balance fixes aside) this is not very smooth at present. understand the need to preven piracy and hacking but surely when you connect to Bnet it can check your character hasnt been fiddled with.?
