hardware requirements for exchange 2010> are pretty high we did a fresh install of exchange 2012 last summer and it is a ram muncher. attempting to run it on the type of hardware we used to run exchange 2003 on would have not been funny at all. thats progress for you.

if you are looking for a loop you will need to isolate (break the link) between blocks / switches. it can be a pain to do on your own. imp if the problem occurs and is random i would lean towards a switch being faulty. when they are "faulty" can you ping / contact them?

have you checked your activation count, might be that it has reset with the change in OS / KMS host key

if you have "upgraded" from 2008R2 to 2012R2 you should not need to patch the OS to activate. id expect you need to install your KMS host key for 2012R2 as it might still be trying to use the existing one from 2008r2 which is going to be grumbling

a long time ago on some smaller SQL 2005 databases i found this page Suggested Max Memory Settings for SQL Server 2005/2008 - SQLServerCentral useful for giving a guide on memory settings for SQL depending on how much system ram is installed. not a hard or fast rule but appeared to work well enough. Some of the options arent going to be relevant to SQL2012. im sure capita will be able to provide you with specific information. i know from when we had them carry out a migration they left our SIMS SQL on the default setting for RAM (our server does have 32GB, it was on 16GB at the time and was using 90% of the available RAM)

i would start by capping the SQL mem usage to see if it improves performance, if it does or doesnt it will give you a "baseline" to work from. is the server "overcommitted" on the memory usage and then having to "thrash" the page file?

SQL unless you put limitations on how much ram it uses will use as much memory as it can find.

aside from checking the count status initially ive never needed to "troubleshoot" a KMS. i also cheated and ran up a load of virtual machines to make sure it was working properly before rolling it out across a site

as per your 1st post yes i would agree with what you have said, uninstall the old key install the new one and activate it if required, from memory it should be live as soon as it is installed as your server is already a registered KMS host. i did this on my 2008r2 host when i updated it to register 2012 keys and 8 / 8.1 (needed a patch mind) you dont need to use VMAT if you dont want to and are happy using the cmd line

if you look at the reg values for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] these hold the internet settings for the browser export out the reg values for when you have set "School internet" and then blank then for home internet gives you two reg keys which can be run directly or called via a script

i could be have a very dim moment. i have a linx tablet which i want to create a WIM image from. so i boot a bootpe image from a memory stick (which is 16GB) and run dism /capture-image /imagefile:D:\image1.wim /capturedir:C:\ /name:linx /scratchdir:d:\ (memory stick is D:) i keep getting an error that its running out of disk space but the log isnt being specific as to which volume is being filled, the memory stick should be big enough to hold the completed WIM and the temporary files but it gets to 71% and stops. i have assumed that without the /scratchdir switch dism just dumps the temp files for the wim create on the C:\ ? the system drive of the bootpe is only 500mb ( which is standard MS) suggestions?

i havent actually tested the "non java" plugin yet. as java behaves here but i havent needed to run any tests for a little while. the annoying thing is that it doesnt need the latest java to run its just that the plugin cries if it phones home and finds its out of data

have you added the enlight light address to the allowed sites in the security tab on the machine?

the SSD part of the hybrid drive is as you say a cache area wiping the drives wont cause an issue imo. as the drive is used the drive decides which files are moved to the cache.

Having been a Ranger for networks users would any of these tools give a live console for showing which users are logged into which computers in realtime with what Apps are running etc? Cacti is pretty good as well for monitoring swithes and the like again requires some time investment. PTRG looks a little more polished

it was annoying that 2012R2 needs windows 8 or better to run the correct version of the hyper-v management tools one of the reasons i "had" to use Win8.....

is the host and management pc joined to a domain? if they are stand alone and you want to manage the host from a stand alone machine using the hyper-v manager you need to change a couple of bits in addition to the firewall and enabling remote management. i used Remotely Manage Hyper-V Server 2012 Core Edition in Workgroup Environment — PC-Addicts the 1st time i was attempting hyper-v labbing

have they smoothed the process so its not sooooo much pain and aggro. **EDIT*** looks like they have added some bits which would have made what im doing sooo much quicker offline deployment. the only sticking point is needing to have azure based AD Accounts which are not free as they are hosted and not "onsite"
