ok will give it another go, i assume its the same for any logon scripts running / connect to options in the users profile. ideally attempting to achieve a single page where they can launch a few required apps and have access to work areas. thinking RDWEB would be a better option then a full blown RDP desktop etc
-
Also working on RDWEB access to replace ranger outpost for file access. Adding a explorer link to open a file share which is fine but it also shows all the other gubbins for the local drives of the RDP server which i dont want them to see The question is does GPO for the user limit what they see in the launched explorer window like it would on a normal workstation

[windows mobile based] Lumia 640 XL or 950 XL?
SHimmer45 replied to LeMarchand's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
speaking of windows mobile lumia's what would be an upgrade to a 635? contract is up for renewal, i brought a cheap 635 to replace a busted andriod phone and i quite like it -
even something like that would be better than nothing i assume that they had core 2 duo's in them?, the multi nic was more to do with experimentation.

Hi all, does anyone have any old servers / workstations that they need to get rid of willing to collect in the Southampton/Romsey/Eastleigh/Portsmouth area (don't need anything monstrous) im after a couple of boxes to do some hyper-v work on (more to learn some of the aspects of fail over clustering etc) would be ideal to have 2 or more NICS in or at least have the ability to add more to it so if you have anything suitable that was going to be scrapped etc please get in contact thanks

Doesnt you backup solution need to be deduplication aware as well
-
i like how updated nodes work with the original chassis

id be speaking to other users of the setup and speak to Dell / resellers to see if they feel it fits your needs or another server type would be the way to go. (as you have). either way its always good to look at what options you have, id be attempting to see if you can get a demo piece of kit for a period of time and see what you think or get a proper demo if getting a loan unit isnt possible
-
From my own experience of Dell support the service you receive is top drawer even on the standard warranty. We had a disk failure early one afternoon and a drive was in my hand by 10am the next day and we had a call back that day to check all was well.

yeah, hence i use psexec to call the old MSI and uninstall before rolling out the new version, should really stop that and use GPO to do it when required.
-
are you using GPO to uninstall the older version of java, as ive not got it to work properly when doing an upgrade as it just leaves the older version behind.
-
been deploying java via MSI for ages and then adding java's deployment config files. when i do an upgrade i remove the old version of java 1st seems to work ok

Microsoft to move out of the education market?
SHimmer45 replied to Dave_O's topic in Licensing Questions
with Azure dont you get charged for the amount of bandwidth used (thinking that any required windows clients are still going to need to be deployed) i know of one school which is putting all of there backup materials & other data in the cloud and its rather clunky (using Google). Capita are going to need a BIG nudge for supporting a none windows OS for a native sims client imo -
used vmware player ALOT in earlier versions, newer versions removed a few bits to get people to upgrade to workstation, so ended up using Virtual Box.
-
i usually have a spare disk for each server / array to hand
-
jumping through the hoops to get a small test system up and running....
-
i would guess that it connects to an existing server via a RAID / HBA card and is controlled through the software for that card.

there are some staggering deals on that site

@witch fair enough, i have been prepping a new CV for a while and a couple of people i know have offered to look at it, however i think having someone who doesnt know me look at it would be more useful.

been working in education since i was 19 (now 32) with a small gap working for a firm which worked in education. looking at other area's but the biggest thing i have found is the "entry requirements" that some firms say is a must have which is a little awkward as i have very little formal training. Stale is a word i have heard used alot and it is a "thing" which happens alot, id suggest that i am getting to this stage hence the looking at other employment area's. Being a jack of many trades master of none is what i would consider a double edged sword for some jobs which i have seen advertised. @witch have i read that you offer assistance with CV's as a second / third opinion would be valuable

powerpoint will only support certain file formats for movies, also it can get grumpy if the path length is overly long or exceeds 256's supported formats are: 2010 2013 codec pack on the machine in question ok?
-
if the get-aduser can use the -path like new-aduser you could specify where the user is specifically
