  1. Port Forwarding does not work, unless you put it into modem only mode. and plug your own modem in. add this to the list of screwups in the NetGear Super Hub list
  2. This dosent work properly on ubuntu machines, it looks like it does untill you reeboot and it goes back to the origanal name. some bug or other you have to eddit the /etc/hostname file personaly i would use nano but any text editor will work the command is (sudo nano /etc/hostname)
  3. are each of your sites set up as virtual servers inside apachie. if not look into setting this up verry useful feture then add the virtual server name to DNS with the destination as the ip address. it will auto route the trafic to the right vhost. if this is how its set up try looking into the apachie.conf file for min and max connection settings and children as often a child process is started for each set of (X)number of connections and it may not be starting corectly also you can set the max number of children in there. and how many connections a child must accept before creating a new process. it could also be a firewall or network card bottle neck so check howmuch trafic is being used from the server. our proxy runs on about 95Mbps in and out quite often, so we may have to put another in anyway to do this you can install iftop (sudo apt-get install iftop) and the command to run it is iftop this will give the current connections and how much bandwith the server is consuming. if its strugaling offloading some sites to another nic may be nessasery. or putting some load balencing in.
  4. According to a Virgin Engener You have to set the channel and this fixes the issue, He sugested Chnnl 11-13 or 1-3 as there isnt asmuch on these channels. wether this works is debateable as i havent tryed it according to a frend it dosent, but what do you expect from cheep netgear products. Sorry any diehard NetGear fans. [FYI the superhub is a Netgear Product]
  5. Our office is in the server room ohh the joys ive had staff come in and instantly say its nosie in hear how do you put up with it. and they all coment on how chilly it is in summer (one of the only room's on school with aircon) but with 12 desktop servers and a wall full of swiches. it can be loud and its freeky when everything goes down for end of tearm its realy quiet you can hear a pin drop.
  6. one of our employes has gone through 3 when he managed to prove to them that it was there box. and they told him to do the same after the 3rd replacement.
  7. What about all the incresed domain functionality, and the incresed functions for say win7 ?
  8. when i was at uni 2 years ago they put two moduals of programing on one in c and one in C# but coladge taught us VB.Net which is a verry good starting point and the code is verry simaler if not the same to c#. they also taught us how to create webpages in notepad before moving to dreamwever and a little flash. but i would probably recomend VB.net as a good starting ground i loved it when in coladge. BTW i didnt do a degree in programing it was in networking but there were overlaping moduals
  9. i agree were becomeing a police state well govement one anyway. itl end up where we cant turn over in bed without breaking the law (extreme I know). but i honestly think that there looking at the wrong end of the stick, and in a way creating / or Created a rod for there own distruction, and people ar getting fed up. what needs to be done is to spred respect, Good morels, by teaching them to the youth. the problem we have is socal unrest lack of plain respect, to each other. not filters by default it realy is removing freedem of speach etc. and parents are the bigest part of that. im not completly againced filters in the write situation's but i dont think they shuld be imposed on everybody everywhere because the govement "think" they shuld be.
  10. just had a call from our inclusion unit asking if there was anything i could do, teachers. so i informed her that as it is mymaths own server that apears down no there isnt.
  11. best bet is to get a new router.
  12. QQ: is the server atached to the domain as a client like a workstation before you try to dcpromo it ?
  13. this might sound daft but does all trafic get between vlans or just some ? and if so you need to set ACL's in the switch your server pulgs into. can all Vlans can contact the server ip range but not other Vlans other wise there would be little point in haveing them set up(other than to minimise braudcast traffic) wich on a school network of a few hundred devises shuldnt be to bad. we have about 450 Pcs accross the school all on the same vlan.
  14. lets start simple lol are they using difrent subnets? if so is there a router between them if there is you will need to change the ACL's on the router and posibly switch to allow trafic to pass between them it's not set by default but it sounds as though it has been set. if u need help setting any of this just ask its been a while scince i have changed acl's but i do have all the cisco ccna training material at my side . might be worth looking at a ccna book it will be able to provide you with indepth knoladge and how to set up things like switches routers routeing ACL's etc. the idea of vlans is that you cant see between them for security or load management. unless this is allowed by the (ACL or router). p.s some layer 3 switches will also route trafic.
  15. what are you looking for in a help desk we use one that's open source but it dosent support email or AD. so im looking for something difrernt but as of yet ive not found anything open source.
  16. if its in a script does the script run correctly ? and does the pc name actualy apply the printer. as some deployment scripts have an area where all network printers are removed and then readded it might be worth checking that as well. also how often does your script run? it might be worth setting it every logon.
  17. in thery it shuld work tho ive never tryed it. im just wondering why your using striped raid ? shurely it would be safer to have raid 5 set up or even 5+0.
  18. just out of intrest how easy is jumala to use over derivatives such as drupal. and how much easier is it to make and set up templates for? just cus im suposed to be setting up a website for a charity in my spair time and i havent goten around to takeing a look yet.
  19. anything server 2003 R2 up. use printer management its the easiest way. other wise scripting the priters is the only other way but that wont work with anything past Win XP.
  20. i know of a few charitys that take and would like more to take more things out to DR Congo, Zambia, Mozambeek and other areas of africa, where the pepole are hungry for information and equipment. but the stupid thing is our school dosent seem to want to know unless they are WEEE, any one else have this truble. when ever we recycle or scrap we remove the HDD's Any way. and we have derics wipes disks abought we just dont have time to wipe them all, and you still dont know if its been wiped properly i had a module of computer forensics and i was taught even if you securly wipe it acoriding to standerds 7 or 8 times the info can still be recoverd if the operater knows what there doing.
  21. Done! completed!
  22. theres a live cd of debian that will create clusters from pxe booting machines they dont need hdd's and this shuld work on any machine ive not used it myself how ever much ive wanted to ive never goten round to it but it might be worth giving it a go. BCCD | Bootable Cluster CD
