  1. We have an unusual problem on a handful of PCs: We have a locally attached printer that is set as the Default Printer - when user logs in all is fine but for some reason during the day the Default printer will change to a Network Printer assigned by Group Policy, that is in the PC's list of available printers. We are running Windows 7 and a Server 2008 R2 Print Server. We have Kyocera Printers. The problem doesn't happen for all staff just a handful and at the moment no Group Policy assigned to that PC sets a Default printer. Any ideas?

  3. Hello, I am in the process of deploying CITRIX VDI in a Box and so far so good. However, I need to generate a certificate to get proper SSL access. I have some instructions from the citrix website but I cannot get my head round what I need to do especially the after installing a Certificate Authority on one of our servers. Instructions I have are here - http://forums.citrix.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/1289-297140-1595898-37217/Kaviza%20VDI-in-a-box%20SSL%20Certificate%20Installation.pdf CTX132235 - How to Create SSL Certificate for VDI-in-a-Box Virtual Appliance - Citrix Knowledge Center I am using Geotrust QuickSSL and I keep getting an error - Common Name does not contain fully qualified domain name. Could someone let me have some idea where I am going wrong or better instruction. Thank you.
  4. We will soon be deploying Citrix VDI in Box on Server 2008 R2 using Hyper-V. This is the first time I have ever done this and just wanted to know the best way to create a golden image? Is it possible to create a Golden Image from an existing PC by making an ISO or is it better to just install Windows 7 from scratch in Hyper-V and then change the image using Citrix? Any ideas or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
  5. They have given some advice - obviously in the earlier stages working with IIS and Windows Server would not be a problem. Cut to reality "we mostly do Linux and Apache installations". Their IIS experience is limited.
  6. Unfortunately no, well not quickly and am loathed to spend much time on it. Our existing site, which is very basic runs on the same IIS server and is fine.
  7. We have had a new website developed for us and are in the process of setting it up. It is a PHP based site with MySQL running on a Windows 2008 R2 Server with IIS. Although the website works and can be accessed it is very very very slow to load each page. My thoughts are that it is have trouple connecting efficiently to MySQL however I have very little experience in troubleshooting these issues. The Web Development company we are using are out of ideas. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated - I can PM you the link to the site if needed.
  8. Just wondered if anyone out there was using or had any experience of the PC Monitor App available on all platforms, inc Windows Phone! ? I am just trying it on my PC at the moment - you just install the software onto any Windows computer (workstation and Server) and it allows you to monitor and do basic functions, ie restart services, Shutdown, reboot, event viewer. With Exchange, AD and SQL monitoring available per subscription. Seems good but is it too good to be true! PC Monitor - Monitor and manage your computers from iPhone, iPad, Android or Windows Phone 7.
  9. Project that I hope to be working on soon are deploying Citrix VDI-in a-Box and deploying Forefront Endpoint. We currently have have Microsoft's EES with Core CALs. What additional Licensing do I need to deploy VDI, I have been told that I need Enterprise CALs as this will cover everything I am wanting to do and get the most of SCCM. However, I am still unsure and want to do this the cheapest way possible. 1 - What additional Licenses do I need to deploy VDI over and above EES ? 2 - Generally what is the price difference between Core and Enterprise CALs 3 - Anyone know the good companies to get good deals on both Microsoft and Citrix licenses - we are currently with RM for EES?
  10. We are currently in the planning stage of implementing a VDI. Obviously we want to get our licensing properly sorted so one of the thing we are looking to monitor the Concurrent Logins in our domain. Does anyone know of a tool/utility that can be installed to do this, or perhaps it is already available within Server 2008 R2? Thank you. Stephen
  11. We have had a case reported where the Teacher opens ActivInspire it opens in the Studio Look (which it should). However if they just doubleclick on a flipchart directly in their User Directory or similar it opens in the Primary Look. How do I set things so it will only open in the Studio Look when openinf from a file directly.
  12. Hi there, We have a new Promethean Board that was installed last summer and the teacher is complaining about the displayed colours (obviously a projector issue rather than the board). I went to her room to check and she is quite right, the worst being that the colour red is just displayed as black on the board, green is brown. I have done factory reset on the projector and messed about with most of the obvious setting without any luck. Do you have any advice, the projected image also appears duller than the other boards fitted at the same time. I have messed with the brightness settings too.
  13. Our Art Dept have real problems in finding a reliable printer/printing method for large documents of A2 and A3 size. The solution they currently have was purchased by a member of staff who has now left and is currently in a right state (basically an epson injet A2 and A3 printer with an ink feed system attached) and is not supported or maintained properly or by a specialist company. What are other schools using that is reliable and value for money - we would ideally like to go down the route of leasing through a managed service so when things get knackered, we can get things up and running again quickly and at no extra cost. Most of what they are printing is for coursework and occasionally exhibitions.
  14. I was too scared to ask as nobody has mentioned it for ages. I just spoke with one of the regular complainers who said it hasn't occured for ages and my gut feeling is SP1 for Office 2010 sorted things along with ensuring File and Share Permissions were correct as per Microsoft's guidlines for Home Directories. I wish I had a definate answer and it was the fact it was intermittant that was most baffling. If I remeber rightly after we did a Robocopy to migrate the data we found there was a padlock symbal on some User Directory folders so we had to ensure ownership was correct and that they inherited the correct permissions.
  15. Have you checked to see if they have any Rules or Auto responsed set on their email account?
  16. We have to smaller (feeder) schools P1-P4 located in different locations across the city. At present the connect to the Internet by BT Business Broadband and have a BT Business Hub at each location. Teachers get School resources by connection in through Citrix. It is a 20 minute Journey from the main campus to visit these schools and we are looking at the best way to get remote access to computers to fix problems. All computers at these sites are running Windows 7 and are on a Workgroup so there are no Servers at these smaller schools. Should we be setting up a VPN between the schools or is there a way to get Remote Desktop connection or maybe a totally different way of providing quicker support to them. Any advice would be appreciated as when support is requested at these schools finding the time to get out and transport can be a nightmare and we do not have any experience of dealing with such issues. Thank you.
  17. Since moving to Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 last summer we have acquired a very irritation problem that all Start Menu items that we apply to Users through Group Policy Redirection are duplicated. Every User has a Mandatory Profile. So when Users click on All Programs within Start Menu they get two of everything. Has anybody come across this before or know of a what to fix this?
  18. Problem occurs when saving brand new Files aswell as editing files. We are running Symantec Endpoint on Clients and Server and are not on SP1 yet. Offine files on clients is turned off by Group Policy aswell as on the Server. What is the most frustrating is that it is intermittent.
  19. Everything is set to Allow, even when you scroll down. Quotas are enabled but I haven't set up any file type filtering.
  20. Screen shot of Permissions of Home Directory:
  21. We have recently migrated all Users' files to a new File Server (Windows 2008 R2). Since then we have had reports of error messages when saving. The error message is "filepath\filename is currently in use. Try again later". This happens on both 'save' and 'save as' and obviously on existing documents in a User Directory. Can anyone shed any light on why this may be occuring or have a fix?
  22. You Beauty! You can tell I don't set Servers up enough.
  23. I have a new Dell Poweredge R510 that I want to set up as our Main File Server. I have a 2 x 300GB which I want to sent up as RAID 1 (this is done no problem) and 6 x 600GB set up as RAID 5. I have a PERC 6/i RAID Controller installed and installed Windows 2008 R2 with SP1. Everything seems ok until I log into Windows after the OS install and on th RAID 5 it is split showing the first 2TB and a 743 GB Partition. I can do whatever I need to do with the 2Tb but the 743GB is totally unuseable. Is there a way to get the 743GB recognized properly and useable? I also have the options to go RAID 6, 10 and 50 but have never used these RAID Setups before and am unsure. Any help would be appreciated.
  24. Check the code on the actual battery - something like BATCL50L in our case with some RM NBook 4110s. We managed to get 20 of these online from China - www good-batteries.co.uk They only accepted PayPal but delivery was within 2 weeks. I think they were about £35 each - not bad considering some places were charging up to £85.
