We are using the paid Salamander. I did check with them and they pointed me towards asking Microsoft. I wonder if it is somehow resyncing the same file over and over. I'll ask them to have another look. I've tried the full resync. Again it completes without errors, but no changes to the Teams. Thanks.

Hi All, We seem to have an issue where SDS is not making changes when a student changes classes. We are using Salamander to create the CSVs. I've checked the CSVs and they are correct. SDS is set to sync 'Existing Users'. SDS syncs with no errors, but the students are still in their old Teams and not in their new Teams. This happened before where a student changed one class. This was the response from Microsoft: Generally I see this when a manual change to a student has occured in the past . You can check you error logs but if this is not wide spread I usually just have the customer move them manually it takes SDS weeks to catch up when I see this. No logs avalile without going to engineering to get them and this can take several days. So, I moved the Team manually for the student and all was well. This time, the student has changed timetable completely and all their classes have changed. SDS again has no errors but makes no changes. I can't beleive this is how it's supposed to work, and I can't believe there would be a random arbitary time delay on changes. Last time it had been well over two weeks without the changes ever applying. Anyone else having similar problems? Do we really have to do it manually, or wait an unspecified number of weeks before students can access their classes?! Thank you.

So this morning I've had the email saying we are now able to place an order. We have been allocated 93 devices. It's not quite clear to me, should I just go ahead and order 93, or am I supposed to order them on a case by case basis. I'd rather get them all in and imaged in one go rather than dribs and drabs. However, so far we've only had a few year 11s asked to isolate. We certainly have enough students who would benefit from this scheme, but are we breaking the rules if they are ordered before the affected students are asked to isolate? Thank you.

Hi All, Has anyone moved to a Teams only model for Shared Storage? We've been investigating moving our two shared drives to Sharepoint, but the permissions management looks a bit horrible to me. Having played around with Teams, it seems like each Team has it's own storage pool (I know this is Sharepoint behind the scenes), and this is obviously only accessible by the members of the Team so the permissions are basically built in. I know that using third party tools can be risky, but Cloud Drive Mapper does a good job presenting the Teams storage inside a mapped drive, which makes it easy to access the files the old fashioned way if you want to. Are there any reasons not to dump the old shared drive format, and move to storing all files within Teams? We have a 1Gbps connection. I can see backups being more difficult. Thanks.

Hi All, Getting a bit confused by Impero Education Pro. We bought 400 perpetual licences about 8 years ago. We paid for support for a while but eventually stopped. When we stopped paying we stopped getting updates. Fair enough! However, recently I signed back into my support account and noticed that my support is active until 2025 and I have access to the updates again. We definitely have not paid for support. Is this something that Impero are doing now? My second question is, I thought last time I was at BETT that Impero had gone fully web based. However, the downloads on the support portal only seem to be for the old style application. The website is pretty useless and makes no mention of whether it is a web based or an installed app, and there are no screen shots anywhere on the website so I can see for myself. I was keen to know if the web version works over the Internet and therefore bypasses the problems with Direct Access. Perhaps the web version I saw is actually sold under a different name?

Has anyone turned on the 3CX / 365 automatic exension option? I want to know what it actually does. The website is really vague and the control seems to be a single switch on/off. There is no information on how to control what happens. For example, how does it choose an extension number for a user. How do I make it aware that I only want staff, not students, do I have to manually assign external numbers, or does it pull then from somewhere? I really don't want 1000+ extensions created that I have to sort through! I suppose this maybe isn't a feature aimed at schools.

Just read this on the Microsoft overview page. It's not very clear!! Activation limits Normally, users can install and activate Microsoft 365 Apps only on a limited number of devices, such as 5 PCs. Using Microsoft 365 Apps with shared computer activation enabled doesn't count against that limit. Microsoft allows a single user to activate Microsoft 365 Apps on a reasonable number of shared computers in a given time period. The user gets an error message in the unlikely event the limit is exceeded.

I've been following this for a while and there are lots of threads about it but no solution other than 'use shared computer activation'. Can anyone remind me what the down sides of shared computer activation are? As I understand it, non-licenced users can't use Office on the computer. That isn't a problem for us as all our users are licenced. Also, as I understand it, these activations do not count towards the users limit. Assuming you can set up SSO to make the experience seamless, are there any major problems with using Shared computer activation? I'm sure there were problems last time I researched it, but I can't remember what they were!

We are due to renew our 1Gbps fibre connection after five years with Virgin paying £18,000 per year. I expect prices has come down a bit, but I've had a letter from a company called Edu24 suggesting they can do a 1Gbps connection for £8388 per year with no install costs. So I just wanted to know is £8388 per year a reasonable cost for a 1Gbps connection at the current time, or is it way to cheap? I should point out that this is not a proper quote, just a letter with prices 'subject to survey'. Has anyone used Edu24 before and can provide any feedback on them? Thank you.

Hi All, This didn't really fit into any Forum category, so I've gone with Cloud Services! I'm been asked to look at creating a virtual staff room for staff that supports video. So basically I want it to operate as an 'Always On' video meeting that any members of our staff can just drop in and out of as they like, as easily as possible, I suppose without having to be approved each time they join, and for the meeting not to close if everyone leaves! Any idea if this is possible? Thanks.

Hi All, When I first set up Direct Access several years ago, I hit a problem that meant I had to use the Legacy Network Adapter on the server. Not sure where I found out I had to do that, but it worked! I can now find no reference to this anywhere on the internet! Our Direct Access has been performing very badly so I am now concerned that the 100mbps legacy adapter is a bottleneck but if I swap it out, Direct Access appears to break. Can anyone who is running Direct Access on Hyper-V in a single NIC configuration confirm if they are using the Legacy or the Standard Network adpater. Thank very much.

I don't suppose you ever came up with a solution. I think the problem lies in the fact that Impero sees the local IP of the connected machine. Such as 192.168.1.etc.. rather than an IP on your network, so it can't connect to it. Surprising they show up at all. Do you know if you did anything to get RDP working, because I can't get that to work either. Perhaps it needs to be allowed through the firewall.

Hi All, I've been using the Smoothwall SSL VPN for years on my iPad with the OpenVPN app. Works really well. I recently decided to get it set up on my home PC as well. This is just for me, not for users. I downloaded the client archive, installed the client. And that is where the instructions from Smoothwall seem to stop. I guessed you are supposed to import the ovpn file which I did and it said it was successful. When I click connect I get prompted for my username and password followed by a TLS error. TLS Authentication is turned off. Log is below. Can anyone see what I have done wrong. Am I supposed to actually import any certificates. I notice there is a PEM in the archive. Am I supposed to import that too? It still works fine on the iPad. Just had the same response as CHiLL. I will try to attend if I can. Although I'm not really wanting to "investigate alternative ways to provision your devices" as I'm pretty sure that will just be Shared User Activation which I'm not impressed with.

I've sent an email today. I'll let you know if I get anything back. I made it clear how crazy it is that Microsoft are wanting schools to use Office 365 but don't offer a way to actually licence it!

I just posted another thread asking a similar questions, but I think the problem isn't just with Mosyle. Tried with Profile Manager and the same problem. Drives don't mount. I did get the script from Mosyle. It did work, but as you say, it prompts for credentials, which never happened before. Also, it doesn't fix the problem that the users home folder isn't being mapped to the Mac home folder which I think is the most important bit, otherwise kids just end up saving files locally. Did you work out a way to do that?

Hi All, Does anyone have the option 'Add network home share point' (in the Login Items payload) working with any MDM and Catalina? It's the option that connects the users AD Home folder to the Home folder on the Mac. Also, does anyone have 'Authenticated Nework Mounts' working on any MDM using the Login Items payload? I've tried Moysle and Profile Manager. Can't afford JAMF, but I see lots of people moaning about similar problems with JAMF too. Most are resorting to scripts or paid products to mount the drives. I can use a script to do a basic drive mount, but I'm not competent enough to know how to map a scripted network mount directly to the Mac home folder. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
