Hi all, Hope someone can offer some advice. My wife is trying to better herself, up-to now she's been a stay at home wife looking after the kids, Our daughter is nearly 3 and my son is coming up 1. She's trying to do it now ready for the kids going to nursery/school full time. My darling wife had been invited to play group with the kids by a health visitor, the one who checks the kids out once in a while, see how they are doing and such like. Playgroup starts at 9AM, so my wife got the kids ready and out by 8:30, place is only up the road - when she arrives she's told she can't stay because our daughter is too old and our son is to young!!!, the advisor's advised her why not try the other playgroup round the corner.... once she arrives she's told again that Upstairs is older kids (2 upwards) and younger ones downstairs (1 and below), problem here is she doesn't want to leave either one alone, A) Daughter is potty training and B) little fella doesn't like being left on his own without mum and doesn't like strangers. So my wife has got home feeling a bit fed up really, thinking could she start her own creche, or her own playgroup ? Has anyone got any thoughts or facts about this ? Shes thinking of writing to the council to see what they suggest. Has anyone else hit stumbling blocks regarding Child Care ? Wifey has also been offered a place on a course for Social Working - I say do it while you can.... but again what to do about the kiddies ?? Any advice ? Thanks all.

You'll need to do a road crossing, a PITA with the council and costs a fair bit of wadge. If your getting someone to dig it you'll need to get section 50's in at the council at about £250 a pop, not including the road crossing. May pay you to ask a company with code powers to do the work.

Why not remove it from the internet, firewall it, and if the remote support company wants access to it then they do it through your VPN or what ever you've got for remote access. We have done this before when we bought a phone systems (without our input) and it used a Server 2003 box, No AV, No Updates, No Firewall, and WAS internet accessible, just like in this scenario, it was remotely controlled. We took if off the internet, put it behind our corporate firewall, and if the support company wanted access they did it through our VPN so we could control it. Not that they ever connected to it. Needless to say, this system was swiftly binned and we got our money back.

We have Hosted Exchange due to the nature of the company we can't use 365, we have it Virtualized and I will warn Exchange is a RAM hungry beast.

There maybe turn on features in the BIOS.. some of our servers have it you can set a time for them to switch on daily.

OR - would the easier option be leave it as it is .. put my pfsense in the DMZ and turn off NAT either on my Thomson or PFSense ? OR - instead of using PPPoA config on pfsense just use the interface as a static & let the modem bring up the connection ? Thanks

Hi All, I'm trying to put my thomson tg516 into half bridge mode, it needs to be done via telnet as the web interface is garbage, but when I get to the point of creating the bridge interface I get an error where I put in the VPI/VCI settings .. apparently that setting is already in use. Below are the commands Im using. ppp relay flush eth flush atm flush ppp flush atm phonebook flush saveall atm phonebook add name=BrPPPoA_ph addr=0.38 (it's this bit here were it fails - presuming I have to enter 1.50 here as thats what KC use not 0.38 but says it's in use) service system modify name=PPTP state=enabled saveall exit When it says it's in use, it can't be because after issuing 'atm phonebook flush' that kills all connections and removes them. And also in pfsense in PPPOA mode - Pfsense asks me for a Local IP and Remote IP on the PPPoA setup page - I'm unsure as to what to use here. I presume the local would be the gateway address to the modem and remote would maybe be my static IP from my ISP ?? Anyone any Ideas ? Thanks in Advance

If your Phone system is going to be on your LAN make sure you put it on it's own VLAN.

I have a Core2DUo machine behind my TV, plugged in via HDMI, 5.1 also plugged into TV. PC is running Linux with XBMC (Ubuntu). Any films I get are ripped to my XBMC machine but also I have my NAS linked up to my XBMC machine and can watch films directly from there. SFF RM Ascend Machine.

Avast here, I've registered it that many times on as many PC's as I care to remember. People just seem to love it and it's free.. At the office, we use Sophos. I used to use AVG when it looked like this..... Those were the days!! Could never figure out though why they (AVG) never released the Anti-Spyware thing freely ??

I worked in a college, loved it! I wasn't really front line support, I did it but that wasn't my job. I was Network Engineer. Would I go back to it ? A resounding yes (Secondary school or College or higher.!!) Not that I don't like my job now, I do, but I came from working on school networks, it's what I know and I enjoy it. I learnt alot from working in a college, mainly how to design and deploy large scale solutions across campus networks, one of the biggest and best challenges was migrating the entire college network from Novell to Vanilla. Loved the experience. Good Luck.

@ConradJones - not had any problems here - except for it can be a little slow booting and getting to the desktop but once she's there she's great!! Not had any problems on my Vaio at all.

Have you got a spare virtual server that you could host the website on yourself ? Just buy domain name, point the DNS records to the IP of your web facing server. You should be good to go.

Have done this, however if you use a third party router with the manual settings often you get things like random disconnects, alot of people are experiencing this issue at the moment. For some reason with the non KC routers, customers get drop outs and sometimes don't come back on, it happens completely random. As far as I know it's not just a couple of customers experiencing this.

I think you'd have to set those other ranges up as static routes.. not sure on this one I'm afraid! Although I'm sure you'd have to set the port your plugged into as a tagged port with all VLANS attached.
