I'm (all being well) putting in an order for 44 of these along with a few of the us-16-xg as my core switches. From what I have seen and read they seem fantastic. Just had a quote from a large "Standard Brand" and it was 30k more! (cant wait to see what the HP one comes back at !) Have a look on youtube for crosstalk solutions the guy does a lot of interesting vids on these and the whole unifi range.

Hi there, I personally never used to when using older versions of windows 95/98/2000 and their are articles such as The SID debate: To Sysprep or not to Sysprep | InfoWorld which make interesting reading. I think it is deemed best practice now to though and since setting up MDT its always worked well.

I'm looking to go Fully Unifi (44 switches, 10gbps uplinks, WIFI, CCTV the lot) does anyone have experience of the Switches ?

No all good there..

unfortunately not that - just to make sure I'm right in thinking I'm looking in the right place. you mean "Allow remote access to this pc" then the group / person ?

Hi All, Trying to setup VDI for our staff and need to check I'm not being dim ! 1. Installed Server 2016 and associated Roles 2. Created a Few VM's in a collection (From MDT image) 3. staff can login to RDWeb aceess and see collection. Click on the Collection - get RDP download > Run>Enter credentials and Boom. The "Connection was Denied because the user account is not authorized for remote logon" Any idea where I'm going wrong? The group is allocated in the Collection Security as is a Dedicated user, and I get the same error no matter what I try! As always any help much appreciated

Thanks all. I did hear about ISDN getting turned off but its not immediate and we don't have a good enough Connection for SIP at the moment. Currently got 4 x ISDN2 lines. Thanks @speakercon the Sangoma looks like it will fit the bill nicely!

Hi All, Sorry I'm sure this has probably has been asked loads of times... I'm looking to get rid of our very expensive Samsung phone system and go voip. I was going to keep our ISDN lines for the time being but wanted to check if I'm correct in thinking I need 1. Lines (Presently ISDN) 2. Voip Gateway (To use ISDN Lines) 3. PBX (Was looking at 3cx or FreePbx) 4. Handsets (Was looking at Yealink and Unifi UVP) Am I missing anything ? Thanks as always !

Yes your right i didn't explain very well. you do in effect have capacity for 4gbps by trunking 4 1gbps ports though. its like teaming wan links each maybe 24mbps but if you have two you can pull down at a faster rate.

I have always looked at the specs and throughput of the SAN / NAS and then worked out what speed I need the switch to handle i.e if I'm running 4x1GBPS Nics give 120mbps max so 480mpbs max throughput. (theoretical max) realistically you will get 80-100 mbps per gb nic look at the switching (Non blocking) speed and then see if the switch copes with it. If your only connecting a few hosts and san to the switch you will not exceed any decent switch's capacity. I don't profess to be a switching expert before someone says I'm in the wrong but this method has served me well. For info I'm using Synology Unit with and bog standard HP 1910 Switch (£300) and configured 4 x 1Gbps nics into a trunk so the switch / NAS get 4gbps connection. This setup is used for ISCSI Luns for the File servers only. VM'S would have a 10gbps switch with trunked links.

Hi, Open a cmd prompt on a networked pc, ideally ping a server or pc with static ip to start with and make sure you get a response. if you do then use nslookup "ipaddress" if you see the correct hostname (you should as its got a static ip) then the next step is to do the reverse i.e nslookup hostname and check you get the correct ip back. if this worked then DNS is in working order. The next step is to ensue scavenging is enabled. Take a look at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771677.aspx and https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753217(v=ws.11).aspx Scavenging won't work immediately you need to let run but it does work and do its job.

Would you mind sharing the VBSscripts ? like what you have done also showing the disk space.

Great thanks very much. I will try and get a demo unit to have a play with. Does the X4012 do L3 for vlan routing ?

Hi All, Has anyone used /had experience with the Dell X series switches ? looking at them and they look great but not sure if the new dashboard is just a gimmick or if its genuinely useful. cost wise they are extremely well priced and appear to have a great feature set. Any options / Advice much appreciated as always.

Thanks for your help I have setup the Policy's but they don't seem to give me enough control (customising layout etc as you can in the settings of the app itself) have you managed to get it all working well using the policy ?

Hi Everyone, Using Classic Shell for our start menu and all working except importing of xml when people login. Any idea how I can import settings at login. Have tried importing a .reg file from a configured pc which works as an admin (exit classic shell import reg then run classic shell again) but need the config to load for any user who uses the pc. Any help / advice much appreciated as always.

HI guys thanks for your help. Will check ipv6 tomorrow as I think I turned it off! Replication seemed ok when I looked on Friday -
Hi All, Hope someone can help me shed some light on my DC performance issues...... recently had to rebuild my dc's (one at a time) due to sysvol replication problems and exhausting the usual fixes. All appeared to gone well but now for some reason AD is slow to load and when doing a "detect" within group policy manager, results in it sitting there doing nothing. Cant see anything bad in the logs either. I thought it was possible something I have missed in the setup but dns Is working fine. strange and very annoying as with the exception of the recent replication issue everything was instant! Any help much appreciated.

Thanks All for the input - much appreciated ! Will go with a Mix of 10 & 6 i think!

Hi Everyone, looking to see what everyone is doing with their Hyper-V setups.... Taking delivery of our new hosts tomorrow and want to see how you setup the RAID arrays on your hosts. Traditionally I always used Raid 5 + hotspare but not sure if this is still the best way to go? New hosts are Dell R730XD with 24 x 300gb sas Drives Also how much RAM do you give your sims server ? currently 32gb but its struggling atm (we have 150 concurrent users on sims and a busy data manager and attendance team! (Reports, Data Analysis + Sims Discover etc) was thinking of allocating 64gb of RAM but as we all know SQL will take whatever you give It. I know you can limit the RAM SQL uses but been told this isn't the best thing to do unless totally no other option. thanks in advance all.
