  1. Hi All, Anyone able to help with this one please ? ... i have the Latest version of Backup Exec 2012 installed and working but when trying to convert backup to hyper-v image it get the following error. "The job failed with the following error: Failed to create the virtual disks required for the warm conversion" This seems to be a common issue i have checked permissions and all looks fine. all other aspects of the backup work perfectly but the P2V is really bugging me as it is a great feature if it worked! many thanks
  2. Thanks Very much. i just tested via the vpn and the changes finally propagated. Will be following my own advice in future and double check inheritance! cheers
  3. Hi all, Hope someone can tell me howto undo the stupid gpo config i made today ! even after 15 years in the industry this one has me chuckle to myself. i was fine tuning the default domain policy (should be desktops inheriting only) this afternoon when i remembered about changing the local admin password on our newly image pc's. Thought to myself this is a good idea.... hmmm not as it it happens. i set the policy and all was well. then 30 minutes later i rdp to a server and get refused on my username or password being incorrect! ok i thought whats changed ? my policy which shouldn't affect the servers. tried the new administrator name and i get straight in. (me the idiot) so i undo my policy and run gpupdate on the servers get asked to log off so i do then wait for 30 mins for the changes to propagate. they don't..... so i can access the servers with the unwanted "new" administrator account but would rather like to logon simply again as plain ole Administrator any ideas how i can get this back to how it should be ? i cant re-name the account in users and computers as the account is masked with a new name. (but is still administrator) many thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks all. Im looking at the robocopy (gui) route which works as i need (x:\location\yr11/username) > (y:\location\yr11\username$) **contents of original username copied into username$** I just need to get the process a little more automated due to the number of users involved. regarding getting the usernames.txt together do you know of a way of getting this or do i need to manually create the list ? Many thanks and sorry to sound dumb i used to do this kind of stuff all the time but spend my life in group policy and AD now!
  5. Hi all, hope someone can help with this. Sure it can be done..... I am migrating users home directory contents from Z:\student data\yr11\%username% to h:\student data\yr11\%username%$\ instead of going into the origional location and copying stuff to the new root folder (2000+ folders) is there a way of doing this via a utill or script? Basically i want all data from within the origional folder into the new withour copying the origional root folder. hope this makes sence and im not trying to re-invent the wheel ! Many thanks in advance
  6. Thanks very much all. Much appreciated.
  7. Hi everyone hopefully this isn't too taxing..... Anyone know hoot change the background on sims learning gateway? We have a theme which is a gradient of red but I have now been asked to set it to white. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  8. ok well if you want second pair of eyes pm me the policy(s) and will take a look for you.
  9. ok well. the setting is off by default so it must be enabled somewhere. possible a contradictory policy or a policy is being inherited from somewhere. have you got any other security software in place or just purely group policy ? I wrote all our polices from scratch and debated a lot about if to enable this feature or not as by default access is granted to pretty much everything. i would run gp modelling on a pc in the student container and use a student user print the report off and loot at it that way (sorry if you have already but i can't think of anything else)
  10. Hi there the answer is in GPO. Its probably under the default domain policy or default desktop policy (depends on who wrote your GPO's) there is a setting User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Explorer. which allows you to restrict access to drive A:, C:, D: E: (or combination of them) if you change this to c:\ only then access will be restored to usb & Cd's (assuming you want cd access) if not just restric access to C & D then E:\ would be usb. this should resolve the problem. hope this helps. cheers
  11. Hi All, Hope you can help im probably doing somthing stupid... have installed HAP v 7.10 and can access the setup / logon page. I had a problem during setup. Point 21 from the documentation "add the permission" IIS AppPool\HAP as this doesn't seem to exist is used IISUSER and set the permission to read / write. I have also got a red cross on services and get an error while trying to save the Homepage items "service.servicemodel.serviceactivationexception" any help as always would be great. Many thanks Richard
  12. Hey there. You can try altering the way in which the data is being directed to the server. if backup 1 is receiving data on nic1 @ 300mb/per min via a gb switch try putting backup 2 on a different switch so in effect you have 2 data streams. The other thing you can try is teaming nics together (assuming the server(s) have 2 or more nics (switch config would be required to combine ports). Of course there are other factors such as disk and network performance which can affect the throughput but i would try these before looking any further. out of interest is the data going direct to internal data / scsi / sas drives or an icsci target ?
  13. Hi all thanks for your help sorry for not getting back sooner. I have installed everything from scratch again and still no joy. Really annoying as i did get 2007 working after a lot of hassle. then removed (should have left it installed and upgraded to 2012) Will leave it for now and try again when i get chance . (New domain and full migration to plan for and configure for the summer). cheers
  14. Thanks and yes your right. Not going to do as they say though as in july im removing the CC3 junk and putting a vanilla W7 domain in. The Child is working really well but i am tempted to remove it and start again with a new forest. cant wait ! my network design so my problem (which is fine as i would like to think i know what i'm doing). thanks for your help.
  15. Hi thanks for your reply. Nice to know im not stupid. I fully agree with what you say i have been told that we have had build issues for years before i came along. the server hands out ip adreses in double quick time. never misses a beat. All clients get their IP allocated its an RM issue regardinf the build process as dhcp / pxe hand the address out, windows installs etc, packages start to install and then fail, fail, fail in the event logs. / ini files. I know what you mean about pc's being too quick. see it quite often! Cheers
  16. Hi Everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with our cc3 domain. (Pc builds) + intermittent poor pc performance. could anyone please tell me if this config would cause any problems as i am gathering evidence to prove what i have done is not the cause of the issues.. here is the config: cc3 domain = FRDC + 2 DC Global cat, DNS Origional DHCP. New 2008 child domain dc global cat (no option as a dc must be a GC server) dhcp has been d-eauthorised form the CC3 FRDC and authorised on the new 2008 child DC. (As I setup wds on the new dc) all entries manually moved and tested. DNS working exactly as it should and no issues. I know everything is working as it should, no errors relating to the child domain in any event logs. Yet because some packages fail to install during the build process and we get intermitent pc performance issues (existing servers are getting battered on disk i/o) I keep getting the blame pointed in my direction. Im not a cc3 expert but surely moving dhcp to a new server (and it working correctly) would not cause these issues ? if i remove the child domain (which looks like it will have to happen) will it remove / alter the dhcp config ? or will i need to reauthorise dhcp on the original server first ? i need to clarify only 1 dhcp is active (also been accused of being stupid and trying to run 2 (which is not the case). any feedback would be much appreciated. Even if i am wrong i just want to know for sure. thanks in advance.
  17. Its the SQL part. I have followed guides but no joy. i get errors regarding SQL service accounts (i have tried network, local system and domain admin) but no joy, also it says i need to choose collation sql_latin_cp1_AI,ES (think thats it of the top of my head) but i have set it to what is recommended. Also set local pipes etc. within sql management centre.
  18. its 2012 but have also tried 2007 and have the same problem. i must be missing something....
  19. Hi All, i want to use sccm for FEP only (at present) installation is proving to be a nightmare. have you got a good doc or tips for getting it up and running please ? its SQL which im having the problem with IIS, etc all configured and passes the pre req checks. apparently collation and account access are not correct but they are.... (to me anyway) also re-installed several times from scratch and always hit the same problem so any help would be much appreciated!
  20. Hi Sorry if you still have details could you pm me with them please ? i have 3 RM cc3 DC's and am slowly getting rid of them. this will be the first of the 3 to go. Many thanks in advance
  21. Just a thought... As I'm redirecting all folders (AppData, Docs, Fave's, links, downloads) do we actually need a default profile ?
  22. Hi all, any help as alway much appreciated.... got 90% of folder redirection working perfectly but start menu and desktop redirection is not working. in the logs the error is unable to locate the directory \\servername\users\desktop\ for the desktop share (it is valid share path with correct Perms (everyone Read & Authenticated users Read) and for the start menu the error is unable to create start menu access denied. path is the same as above but called start_menu. any ideas ? also setup a default profile but when a logging on it logs the user in with a temporary profile.... ? no idea why. it has the v2 extension and the ntuser.dat is now ntuser.man thanks in advance
  23. Hi All, i have created a child domain for our new w7 network and 2008 R2 servers. Our existing network (2003 CC3) is going but is currently the forest root (Parent Domain) so structure is xxxx.internal (parent) and child is xxx.xxxx.internal. All working nicely but one (big) thing i didn't think about was after the migration..... i no longer want any trace of cc3 or 2003 server in our school. can i promote the new child domain to be the parent ? and delete the old one ? i know i will have to tidy dns zones etc but I've already moved dns and dhcp roles to the new 2008r2 dc so shouldn't be too hard ?? any help or ideas please give me a shout. many thanks in advance
  24. Thanks very much, Tried putting the server(s) into the no inheritance container and re-shared the printers. will test in the morning but i have been able to map them now thankfully from the RMMC. Cant wait to escape the RM system in the summer ! I'm a vanilla flavour guy.....
  25. Hi all, Really hope someone can help with this! I have 3 server rm cc3 domain and new non rm servers. All I want to do is map printers from non rm server to rm clients and move users home directories from rm server to non rm server. As always rm say no but these are the most basic of things. Surly their is a way?? Thanks in advance all
