  2. Who did you use?
  3. What’s the going rate for having a 78” Promethean ACTIV 2 board with projector and sound fitted? I’ve been quoted £3270 per board which I thought was rather excessive.
  4. I've got Office 2007 installed but not sure about Microsoft Groove. I'll check tonight. Thanks for the info.
  5. I’ve been asked to look into the possibility of leasing a suite of machine instead of buying them outright. All the schools I’ve worked at have always bought their machines so I have no experience in this matter at all. What are your views?
  6. Has anyone found an alternative to the Soundfield Frontrow sound system? As it cost nearly £1000 for each system it makes it very expensive for what it is. http://www.soundfield.info/pdfs/FrontRow_Tempo_Spec_Sheet_End_User.pdf

    Exchange 2003

I’m having problems with Exchange 2003 running on 2003 server. The POP3 service is enabled and under services the startup type is set to automatic. After the server starts, the POP3 service starts correctly but in exchange system manager the POP3 default virtual server is stopped so I have to manually start the default POP3 virtual server after each restart of the server. Any ideas?
  8. Well spotted. It appears I gave the old version Version 3 is here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237
  9. I had similar problems last week and solved it by reinstalling the windows update agent. Download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264 Use the force option when installing: WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
  10. Has anyone managed to get Dreamweaver MX 2004 working on a Vista machine? This one gets as far as the splash screen then quits without warning
  11. I’ve discovered that the schools firewall has port 8530 open . As many will know this port is for client access to the WSUS server. I don’t know why or for how long 8530 has been open but it is and I can access WSUS from home using http://:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx This could be useful as it allows staff laptops to get updates without being brought into school but it’s also a security issue so should I contact Synetrix and get said port closed?
  12. Surely the disk should be available for download on the website as a iso. Version 3 is a free download so charging £25 just because it’s the network version smells of greed.
  13. I’m in the process of setting-up the anti-virus software and was wondering how other schools set their scan preferences on servers and workstations. I’ve heard it said that realtime scanning shouldn’t be used on servers owing to the performance hit and I’ve also heard it said that workstations shouldn’t scan network drives. What policies have you got in regards to realtime scanning?
  14. The HT has decided to go with Infotec for financial reasons so time will tell if it was the right choice.
  15. From the sound of it Infotec is not a good brand
  16. The HT is looking at the Infotec photocopier range and is thinking of buying the MP4000. Has anyone had experience of this model, good or bad?
  17. What's changed?
  18. In the last month or so I've two laptops from 'laptops for teachers' scheme fail with motherboard faults and as all the laptops from this scheme are now at least 3 years old and on their last legs what are other schools doing when a teacher laptop is scraped. Understandably the teacher doesn't want to loose their laptop but as funds are short the HT say the teacher will have to buy their own laptop. Presumably if the teacher buys their own then they will also have to buy Office and will not be licensed to install any of the school software and I have my reservations about them connecting to the school network.
  19. I'm after a laptop of home use and as I will be paying for it myself I don't want to pay too much. It will be used mainly for web, email, MS Office, bit of Dreamweaver, holding and editing the family photos, and maybe movie editing but only if is capable. I don't want to pay for a 'top of the range' model just because I want to edit movies. What should I go for?
  20. Sorry for the delay. The distance from projector to screen is 2800mm and the boards are Activboards at 1630mm wide. I’ve been looking at the Mitsubishi XD500U which is very attractive as there are no filters to clean but if you can recommend another projector…
  21. How old is the cachepilot box? I didn't know they had a set life span.
  22. Update so far. To recap the machine has a new PSU and new RAM and when I switched it on Wednesday morning the dam thing wouldn’t POST. There are no add-on cards at all and I removed the IDE cables just to rule them out. I was now ready to scrap the machine so in a fit of madness I removed the CPU and refitted it. It's been ok since so fingers crossed that’s it. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
