Right, this question has been bugging me for a while. We've got a 4 year old server that's running 2003 and is fitted with 3GB of memory. It has 2 SATA HD's (not RAID) and is networked with a 1Gb link. From my machine if I copy a large file say 2GB, to one of the server drives, it copies ok but if I copy the same file to the other server drive the progress bar moves very quickly at first then stops with the server HD light lit solid. It will stay like this for a few minutes with the server unresponsive then my machine will report an error and the server will come back to life. For information the server swap file set at 4977 MB and is on the second drive. Any ideas?

Any update on this? We're running 3.1.0.4 and still have reports of random crashes. One report came in this morning that explorer.exe crashed when a folder was opened. What exceptions have you set in PCE and your antivirus and has it helped at all?

Has anyone found a way to disable Synaptics pinch zooming via the registry or through gp as I keep getting complaints that the IE window has shrunk when using Samsung N130 netbooks!

I've just asked them if they wanted sound on the monitor and they said yes so that narrows the choice down a bit Should have known better than to ask anyway!

Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I've noticed that a lot of monitors don't have speakers and as these monitors are for the admin office that might not be a bad thing anyway so I was woundering if you put monitors with speakers in the school office?

Thanks but I've been put off buying the cheaper makes of monitor since I bought a HannsG model a few years back and it was complete pants. I've got two of the NEC 195VXM's on my machine and its pin sharp so I think it's money well spent to get a good monitor that bright and clear when the user will be looking at the screen all day.

I need two 19" monitors for a win7 machine in the admin office. Quality of image is important and previously we have used NEC Multisync 195VXm monitors which gave a really good clear image but these monitors are no longer available so I am looking for a replacement. What monitor should I get?

Yes I've been thinking about using rules as well. I understand there is a third party app for Exchange server that would achieve what I want but I was hoping for a simple Outlook solution.

I've got 200 photos that I want to stamp with the filename directly onto the image. I've looked at Photoshop CS3 and IrfanView but I can’t see a way to achieve this. Any ideas?

Thanks but they only want to save in the shared mailbox for the odd email so I was hoping for a button or a dropdown they could click for just that email.

I've been asked to make a shared mailbox on our Exchange 2003 system to allow admin staff to send emails to teaching staff about telephone messages. They want it configured so they can send teachers an email with the sent copy saved in the shared mailbox and not their own sent folder. I've made the shared mailbox and set the permissions but I can't see a way to get Outlook to save the sent email to the shared sent folder automatically.

One of my schools is upgrading from 2Mb to 10Mb broadband and I would like advice on where the new connection should go in relation to the network as there has been substantial changes since the last broadband install. The network consists of 3 cabs, A, B and C. Servers connect to the 1Gb core switch in cab A which also houses 3 1Gb switches. Cab B has 3 1Gb switches each connecting to core switch with 1Gb copper. Cab C has a single 100Mb switch connecting to cab B over copper. There are plans to fit an extra switch in cab C later in the year. BT will be installing the fibre and the easiest cab to get to from the road is cab C but I’m concerned that this won’t be the best place to make the connection.

So I have got both Silverlight boxes ticked in WSUS but clients are not installing Silverlight. What classifications are needed to make this work? Thanks.

@GrumbleDook: It's that time of year again and the filtering forms have landed on my desk. Looking at the attached image I would say schools are being moved away from local control by not giving the full picture.

I want to make myself a user in Sims for when installing Sims upgrades and getting school/class lists ect. At the moment I'm using the office managers password but it makes sense to have my own. So far I've made the user and added it to the system manager group. What other groups should I add? Thanks.

I'm planning a new 2008r2 server with 2 Xeon processors. I see the standard version of 2008r2 can take a maximum of 4 64-bit processors. Does this mean physical processors or cores as the Xeon processors have 4 cores a piece?

Set GP to run a script at user log off which runs this little app Optimum X Download Page You will need to use the /Q switch when running from the script. Used it at both of my schools for the past 3 years with out any problems!

Projected the game on the big screen in the hall but it was baking in there so me and the caretaker went into the air conditioned suite and watched it on the 50” plasma. I forgot the tv switches off at 4:25 and when it did the look on the caretakers face was priceless
