I've not even seen PCE yet but posts like this make me wonder why schools are using this software.

I've just been told that we're having this software and after reading this thread I'm thinking this might not be such a good move. Any tips you could offer on setting this up would be welcome

I was thinking more of software that we can host on the server that allows video conferencing. Doing it this way the calls are kept within our network.

We've got a load of webcams which I've been asked to fit on the classroom computers. Is there any software that allows the webcams to work on just our network like class to class video calls? I've looked at messenger but I'm concerned if the pupils use messenger or skype they will be chatting with people from outside school.

That's a good price as we're moving to the EMBC 10Mb line soon at a cost of £12K P/A

Anyone using the Asus Eee PC 1201NL notebooks? Are they any good? Been thinking about giving them out to staff. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Just that it isn't part of the standard network build.

Had a meeting with the ICT curriculum adviser today and was told that we shouldn't be using our ISA proxy to cache web requests as it not in the EMBC standard network build. As we’re only on a 2 Mb line I thought made sense to use our own cache especially now schools are using online services like mathletics, renaissance learning and gridclub. What do other schools do in this situation and do you follow the standard network build to the letter?

@Plexer: are those machines HP 7900's?

I've taken the Vista version of Windows Movie Maker (v6.0.6002.18005) and put it on my Win 7 machine. The only problem I've got now is that when importing AVI's it only imports audio and not video. Media Player 12 plays the AVI fine showing both the video and audio. Have I got a codec missing and how do I tell which one? Thanks.

We're been using Teacher2Parents texting for a couple of years and now we've signed up to their email service and I was wondering how other school go about capturing parents email addresses.

One of my schools uses Danwood for the copiers so I asked about having a network card put in so we can print to it. The reply was that it would cost £675:rolleyes: I almost fell off my chair!

I'm looking for recommendations on mini-notebooks/netbooks to replace the old machines which were supplied under the laptop for teacher scheme. Last year we bought a few Samsung NC20 mini-notebooks which went down really well as they have 12” screens but this model has now been discontinued. So what model would you recommend that has a 12”-13” screen? Thanks.

You need to find a machine that has a floppy and copy the data to a network share.

Yes I've been seeing dropouts as well so I better keep an eye out for the latest update.

A few weeks ago I downloaded Ruckus firmware 8.2.0.1.8. Now when I look at the Ruckus site the firmware has gone back to 8.1.1.0.12. Was there something wrong with the version 8.2?

EMBC said one of their squid proxies had crashed when I reported the fault this morning.

This can't be right. We're paying for a 10Mb line as it's shared with 3 other groups on the site and after I did a speed test last month I complained to EMBC that we were only getting 1.2Mb. Now we're getting well over what we should be...

I've had a number of users complaining that when they logon they are left with a blank desktop and no taskbar at all. The users in question use redirected desktop so it looks like the logon process is hanging partway through. Login off and back on again restores normal operation but this issue is reoccurring every day. The machines are XP with server 2003 and it is affecting random machines and random users.

As long as they don't go faulty! I was on the phone to the HP Indian call centre for 33 minutes last week. Something I can do without
