I'm working on a few teacher laptops for a local school as they don't have an onsite tech at the moment but I've come across a problem with Sophos and need advice. In Sophos there is a primary and secondary proxy option for updating but only the primary page is setup. How can I set the secondary proxy option if I don't have the password? Can the password be taken from the primary page via the registry or maybe taken from a different laptop which has both the primary and secondary update pages working correctly? They are using Spohos 9.5 and it looks like a standalone version with no connection to the server.

Yes and it's still got DNS installed and the network settings are still pointing to itself. DNS is installed on the other servers.

So I'm trying to remove AD from an old 2003 server. All the FSMO roles have been moved to another server but when I run DCPromo it gives the error failed to configure the service netlogon as requested. Any advice please?

Normally the online version works first time but I have requested the licence and will use that if I can't get the online version to work, but I hate wasting time on silly problems!

For some reason adobe reader and flash are refusing to install. I've taken a new machine and installed win 7 on it this morning, now I want to install both adobe reader and flash but adobe reader never gets past 33% before it reports metafile download failed and flash quits at 0% (see attachment). There's nothing on Google about this and I'm stumped

So Excel 2007 and 2010 trusts can be controlled via GP but I still can't see a way to do this with Excel 2003.

Admin are using Targsats and they have a shared folder on the server so they can all access the data. Basically Targsats is just a collection of Excel files with macros and for some reason Excel keeps freezing when opening the files. The problem looks like a trust issue as when the files are opened from the desktop Targsats works fine. So my question is how can I set Excel to trust a network location and not block the macros. Excel 2007 has the add network location in the trust centre but I can't see anything like that in Excel 2003 and I would rather set these options in GP anyway. Edit: Everything was working fine till the other week and the only thing that's changed is that I installed a Certification Authority on one of the servers.

The Smart people put me on to Steljes but they told me the board is now out of warranty. Sods law really as the warranty finished 4 months ago and I've got no other boards to swap modules with. Steljes did give me a fault finding chart to run through so when I've got time I'll try that but deep down I know I'm wasting my time.

I've now installed the ipsCA root certificate on the phone and now I'm getting errors in the Exchange logs. There are 3 of these errors about 2-3 minutes apart.

The HT has given me his HTC HD Mini to setup with exchange. So far I've wasted 1 hour and 30 minutes trying to get Activesync to work and I'm now ready to throw said phone against the wall The school is running Exchange 2010 on a Server 2008r2 box and using an ipsCA certificate. I can browse email via OWA but it asked me to install the certificate the first time I connected but now it connects without asking and works fine. So the problem is getting Activesync to work. I’ve entered the settings which I think are correct but it doesn’t sync with the account. I’ve run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer and it passes the test for Exchange Activesync but only if I manually enter the server name and I tick Ignore Trust for SSL box as otherwise I get the error What can I do

I'm logging on as admin each time so I'm sure it's not permissions and I've run diagnostics which is why I know the resistance is out of range. We've got a 64" Smartboard which needs calibrating every time the machine is restarted. It's got the latest drivers and software but the control panel hardware report page shows: So I'm assuming it's a faulty board. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this?

I've got a server 2003 DC that is also running SIMS.net FMS and SQL 2008. I want to demote the DC so it's a member server. Can I do this without upsetting SIMS.net? Thanks.

Ok thanks guys. I've quickly speced up a Dell server just to test the water and so far I've got: Dell PowerEdge T310, 1 Xeon X3430 2.4 Ghz, 8GB memory, Perc H700 controller,2 X 300GB SAS HD's in raid 1, DVD. That comes to £1400. Do you think I've over speced at all as I wasn't expecting that much?

Because of Capita dictating the end of server 2003 next year I'm going to need to come up with a plan to migrate Sims over to a new OS. The current server is a Dell PowerEdge 2900 dual E5410 2.33Ghz 4GB memory running 2003. This is the only server and also runs Exchange 2003 and everything else you would expect in a primary school. I'm sure with just a memory upgrade this hardware would run server 2008r2 fine but I don’t fancy wiping it and installing everything in the time frame I have especially if Exchange 2010 was installed. So what I'm thinking of is an additional server just for Sims and keep the Dell server as it is for now. Am I going down the right road with this? What hardware would the new Sims server need to be with 5 Sims workstations?

Thanks for the link that explains it nicely. I think the problem is sorted now as I rebooted the switches after school and everything seems ok. First thing this morning the HT said his and other people couldn't access their email. I spent some time on the HT's computer trying to get Outlook working and it still didn't work even after deleting the profile saying it couldn't find the Exchange server. It's all back up now but I could do without that first thing in the morning.

I don't recall as server GC was added to the domain months ago. Is there any logs I can check? As I understand it before you make a server read only you need to have a existing 2008 writeable server?
