We have been having problems with our internet connection for a few months and wondered how you test your connection. We have 2 x 70Mbps lines going into a Sophos UTM. Apart from the usual firewall and filter the UTM does load balancing so I could simultaneously get 2 PCs using fast.com and could get 69Mbps on both machines. I became aware of problems when I started getting reports of sites not loading as quickly as they did once so with this in mind I contacted the ISP who couldn't find anything wrong with the lines and advised me to disconnect the UTM from the network and test the speed without any other machines using the network. So over half term I unplugged the UTM from the network and only connected my PC. Then I unplugged one of the lines and ran speed tests 7 times on each working line then repeated the tests on the other line so only one line was connected to the UTM at any one time. The results I got showed each line varied in speed from 23-72 Mbps which seems a large variation. So what is a good site to use to check the speed? I've been using fast.com which I thought was ok but then again...

From what I understand it's the unit price that's fixed not the FTE but @Boredguy that is a good point, the price is fixed no matter who you buy from. Maybe they are reducing their markup to get the business.

Slightly OT but we are 2 years through a 3 year OVS agreement and need to renew by the end of the year. Now another company have approached and offered us a better price for the final year which is 4% less then our current reseller. Being a primary it works out at saving £55 but is it worth the trouble for moving resellers? We are happy with who we currently have and they have been helpful in the past.

MS got back to me and said Server 2016 v1803 was listed on VLSC as 'Windows Server Datacenter'. I've not had time to try it but the notes mention it's version 1803.

Well that's good to know. Like I said we are running 3.8.3 and some APs have been up for 58 days with no problems at all so might be best to leave well alone.

Over half term I intend to upgrade the firmware on our Unifi AC-PRO APs as they are currently running 3.8.3 and the latest firmware I can see is 3.9.54. Are there any known problems with this upgrade as the last thing I want to do is start having issues?

Just downloaded Server 2016 from VLSC only to find it's version 1607. We have an OVS agreement covering desktop and servers so expected to be getting the latest version. Do I need to ask MS to make 1803 available to me?

I'm after a couple of laptops for home. One for my daughter's Christmas present and the other for myself. I've been looking online and the prices don't seem too bad at the moment but it got me thinking that maybe they will raise the prices soon ready to drop them for black Friday / cyber Monday. I got caught out last Christmas when I bought a bike in the 'sales' only to find the same shop selling it for £20 less in August. So should I wait or go for it now?

Yes we have multiple printers pointing to the same printer so I was hoping to achieve the same result only I’ve setup a test printer but unable to get the hold print function working.

No £6.14 for 3 years worth of cover

We have 3 Ricoh photocopiers, 1 x colour 5503 for just staff and 2 x mono 6503 machines for staff and students. I've been asked to look into setting the copiers to require a code before printing staff documents and from what I can gather on the Ricoh site this will be a blanket setting restricting all printing. Any advice on how to get round this as it is a primary school and it will go horribly wrong if students start playing with the controls?

Got a Eset quote from a new supplier, £6.14 per machine for a 3 year license which seems better however that said 3 years ago I paid £4.50 per machine for a 3 year license.

What sort of prices are you getting? I got a quote today for Eset AV @ £6.40 per machine based on 260 machines. Seems rather a lot to me.

We lost our dog 15 years ago and I still miss him. At the time we never had children so we treated him like a child. We went everywhere together and he walked the Pennine Way with me. He was diagnosed with a heart condition around 8 and died at 13. Now we have 2 kids and we named our son after the dog. His spirit lives on. It does get easier but you will always miss him.

Ours ticks over with low CPU demand. Perhaps a restart of the VM is in order.

Not working in chrome here

We already have identity.accessacloud.com white listed but seems odd windows 10 machines work ok but not windows 7 machines.

A user is having problems logging on to HCSS https://www.hcss-web.co.uk on win7 machines but works fine on win10 machines. It was working ok last week but I'm told HCSS have changed the logon page over the weekend and that's when the problem started. I can't see anything in the logs to suggest anything wrong.

Thanks for the replies. We have decided to give USB over CAT5 a try over the summer then if it fails we can use the adaptors elsewhere.
