  1. Not tried, personally the Exams officer has been in touch with me and I've just WOLd the PC, remoted in myself and pressed the button. I'm not totally familiar with the software. The exams officer has Sims at home on a school supplied laptop - in theory I could've just allowed remote desktop onto the PC for them
  2. I wouldn't worry either, my patch panel in my house is sat right next to the main electrical DB and I have zero issues (cat5e)
  3. Updated mine this morning, what blocklists are people using ?
  4. If you're using unifi I can help
  5. Fixed, silly me forgot about thumbs.db must've been leftovers from the early days
  6. Going to sort out the fileserver and I only want to copy files that have been accessed or created in the last year to a temp folder using robocopy without copying empty directories I can copy no problem, but it seems to create empty folders - I basically only want to copy the folder structure of the last 365 days robocopy "E:\folder1" "E:\folder2" /L /S /MAXAGE:365 /COPYALL /R:10 /W:30 > test.txt *edit* seems the empty folders have been touched in the last 365 days MAXLAD instead ?
  7. I would've pursued this a lot earlier (we've been using Gsuite since 2013) but team \ shared drives is still relatively fresh , Like you since current events I think people are realising the potential so I may be able to push it more. The original staff drive was \ is hallowed ground but I reckon I could dump 80% of it without anyone noticing. *edit* forgot to mention I'm syncing using File Stream, Ultimate aim is not to have any mapped drives (except for some key staff and legacy apps) and just the one drive letter via file stream which contains My Drive and Shared Folders.
  8. I'm wanting to do this too, currently as an experiment I'm uploading the staff area to a shared drive and there's tonnes of stuff in there that goes back years and it's taking forever to sync (I'm manually copying things over) to be honest it's an absolute mess. I think the option of starting from scratch looks a lot better but I'd have to get everyone on board. Either create one shared drive with departments in there or just create single departmental shared drives
  9. The way I see it, they've been learning it themselves over the last few weeks - Classroom etc.
  10. I've bought in quite a few refurbs, and I'm still getting asked for laptops 7 weeks since the school closed.... I'm actively suggesting moving away from desktops and going to Chromebooks instead for teaching staff
  11. Anyone started a back to school plan yet ? Especially in regards to IT usage ? Going to be fun trying to keep keyboards and mice clean....
  12. We can't be furloughed in case something goes wrong, there's always going to be a need for some IT support no matter how trivial
  13. I wonder if any of this is taken into account when we are thrust back into it. My daughter who works in probation had a test today, she was waiting in the queue for 2 hours and self administered the test, I can't believe for one minute that she would do it properly
  14. Yep, you have to use those keys to set the domain too I only did limited testing, but it works
  15. I really feel like not going back, it's not like my time in quarantine hasn't been stressful (probably more so) but I'm certainly not missing the IT life. All this time to reflect has really made me think a lot. Before all this I was fighting with low budgets, projects and the general workload. Still there's bills to be paid and I'm too young to retire so I guess it's just a case of plodding on.
  16. Had a quick play, I can really see the potential but would need a complete paradigm shift of working at the school. It's a real shame this didn't come out earlier, would've really helped with school laptops and teachers working from home too. All they would need is a basic windows 10 install and this with drive sync and it would've been fine, although I got round it by installing neverware on them
  17. I've had very little communication from school, I'm just keeping things ticking along and answering a few queries but it's all gone quiet. The thing is I'm just not missing it at all, and I'm worryingly enjoying being at home and not facing the outside world (I didn't go out too much pre C19 to be honest). All motivation is circling the drain
  18. Thanks for this, I've been to a few sites myself e.g. the orkneys etc. - finally got round to visiting stonehenge \ avebury last year
  19. Think I might have a play with this today in a VM
  20. I'm with Virgin and I get charged £68 pm for 200Mbps plus a phone line I'm forced to have that I don't use, expensive but the alternatives are poor in comparison
  21. I've thought of that, and I've also advised installing the editing for office docs on Google apps - but they say the formatting keeps messing up *edit* forgot to mention - this is a PE teacher
  22. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I've a teacher with a personal laptop that they borrowed with an expired Microsoft 365 account and they are asking if there is anything I can do Of course I can't give them an office key and HUP isn't as good anymore and I don't understand the price difference anyway ? HUP is 79.99 a year it seems yet on the normal Microsoft store 365 personal is 59.99 a year ? We are a Google school and they claim they can't do their work in Docs for some reason so we don't have 365 Is there anyway round this ?
  23. In your screenshot, both conditions have to be met, so it checks for wireless then who's in that security group. If I'm reading your question correctly - just set a deny access policy to the domain users security group ?
