Congratulations. I am very happy that you've managed to extricate yourself from your current school. Shame about earlier in the year - I still think my school made a bad decision with that

Posting in General to catch enough users! What do schools with old fashioned Centrex lines use as their switchboard phone? For transfers, lighted lines, answer phone etc. It's causing serious hassle here at the moment!

Will have BBC Parliament on tomorrow. I think we can safely say only the British can do pomp and circumstance like this. Any bets on what Dennis Skinner's line will be this year?

Just had an email from Link2ICT pointing schools still on XP to the Cabinet Office regarding their XP extended updates purchase. Looks like some schools maybe eligible to get the updates via Central Government. What do other folks think after reading it?

And I can't get to sleep. Based on previous I expect to still be up watching crap at 2am. Anyone else have this at the end of a holiday? I always have, it's like I'm still a kid and want to make the holiday last...just...that...bit...longer!

Code audit found the NSA back door? Or perhaps they've had sufficent court orders, they are just closing shop like a crypto-email outfit last year? I wouldn't trust Bitlocker for anything personal. I use Sophos Safeguard at work - but that's work!

Try UK Projector Lamp and Software Experts - Tekgia and ask for Bob. They are the *ONLY* UK supplier for Cambridge/Hitachi Starboard pens/charging units for the circa 2002/2004 models. You can pay via card online/phone or send a cheque. It isn't cheap. £300 for a dual charging unit and two wireless pens. They used to see single units, but not any more. If you find another supplier, please let me know. I have 15 of these boards, and neither the money nor the staff buy in to replace them.

Aye I'd suggest removing all local profiles from C:\Docs&Setts or C:\Users then reboot, gpupdate and logon. If this doesn't work, try re-imaging one. If you have no replication errors it sounds like something has been cached somewhere.

It's a proper kosher Birmingham company who do a lot of trade as a support company for schools. Apparently it's their hardware, the AV comment was ignored and Windows Update is part of a "managed service" which they "test before deployment". Yes we've paid. My SBM has been surprisingly apologetic me to about it! I think he's realised it's been a bit of a cock up and that I am actually trying to cover the school.

Hello, The school have bought - without my input - a signing in system where we do not own the hardware, or have any ability to access it (the companies remote support remove any user accounts I create etc.) This box is not firewalled, has no AV and they do not run Windows updates and is connected to the internet. Not only that the third party company can connect at will. First off am I being a whiney so and so about this and should just suck it up? If not what can I do to isolate this thing from the rest of my network. It needs internet access for backup and remote support, and needs access to a couple of local clients for their management software.

If you buy hundreds of the it probably saves a fair amount of cash in staff time though!

This is why humanity is doomed. We should be coming together, not going back to neolithic tribal groupings.

I had no idea you could SSO with ePortal. I assumed the Resource Passwords in Facility were completely separate. How do you do this?

Derbyshire also do this. As my Dad pointed out when I had a near miss with one - at length.

I'm sure for the past few centuries two blocks of different metals have been stacked on each other and are very, very slowly merging through some form of quantum mechanics which: a) I can't remember from A-Level Chemistry and B) Cannot find on Google! -
I've inherited an old USB HP tape backup device and a few dozen 12/24GB HP DDS3 tapes. What other media type can these drives take? Can they take the newer 500GB/1TB tapes?
