  1. CPU Type in Powershell/CMD - wmic CPU get NAME RAM in Powershell - Get-WmiObject win32_physicalmemory (you may need to jiggle this to just get the info you require) Other Info as a bonus - Get-WmiObject Win32_BaseBoard Any chance you could share your current script? Sounds useful.
  2. I would have thought Google Drive or Dropbox would be the easiest should you not want to have to put a website together, and are just hosting files within a folder structure? Set it to public and give everyone the link. Could always buy a cheap domain and set a forwarder to make accessing the link easier. If you do end up going down the website route however, drop me a PM and I'm happy to host it for you.
  3. That's a fair point - if you're relying on cloud storage that much it's kind of a step backwards... I seemed to recall that as long as you was making sufficient effort to remove the documents from active storage, it was deemed unreasonable to expect it be removed from backup media. But maybe I'm speaking from what would make sense from an IT view rather than DP view. I'm not familiar with vault, however would that not then rely on staff deleting the files themselves after x amount of time? Is it not possible to exclude a particular folder?
  4. Set data retention to 1 year and anything that needs keeping for longer the user needs to save a copy of locally (locally on the network, not the PC of course)? I seem to recall backups were OK from memory?
  5. Try importing this GPO for speed - it'll re-register the relevant reg entries and set the default app association for the main image types (you'll need to put the XML file in the root of the zip on a share somewhere and change the GPO for default app associations to point to it) Restore Windows Photo Viewer.zip
  6. I used to do this on my 3 mobile contract, tethering from my phone. Worked fine for me and I'd say I had similar browsing habits. Only reason I stopped was because 3 stopped offering unlimited data plans (probably because of people like me doing this).
  7. Brill thanks - we've just got a new head who's changing the whole way the schools handles fire alerts etc. Once they've got everything ironed out I believe the school will be buying into this.
  8. Well spotted, I didn't notice that! Has this worked before and randomly stopped without changes? If so have you tried a blacklist check? https://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx - And it may be worth contact Microsoft direct. I had an issue recently where senders from my VPS were emailing outlook accounts and they were being marked as SPAM by Microsoft. They'd put certain domains of mine onto a blacklist for some unknown reason. I contacted support, and they removed them, however it took a while.
  9. The missing records will need inserting onto your domains DNS settings - this will be held by whoever your domain registrar is or your web-host depending on your setup. If you run a WhoIs lookup on your domain, this should tell you what nameservers your domain is pointing at - this is where the missing info needs to be added. Ensure the SPF is there along with all the details outlined in the 365 admin center. edit - If you're stuck, PM me the domain name and I may be able to help a bit further.
  10. Thanks all... Unfortunately, looking through their documents there's nothing massively out of the ordinary (movies / tonnes of music / holiday photos) at least for the majority, but some have 15/20 years of work on there that for some reason they've never deleted. Unfortunately, we're midway through merging with a trust so OneDrive/GDrive are out of the question at the minute. Either way, offline files or not, 100GB is a silly amount of storage in my opinion for lesson resource etc. They have been spoken to a few times about it but never remove files. The plan was to possibly introduce a soft limit, then give them x weeks to get below it before changing it to a hard limit. Out of interest, those who don't use Offline Files, how do your staff login at home/offsite? Do they not login with their network credentials or are you logging into the domain at school with your Microsoft account?
  11. So recently we've been having some issues with staff laptops that have 128GB SSDs where their Offline files cache fills them up. I'd assumed the issue was because multiple members of staff had logged on but it turns out not, and in fact we have many members of staff with 100GB+ home directory (One member of staff at 175GB). Our Win10 image is small too, with literally only Office, Foxit Reader, SIMS, SMART Notebook, 7Zip and VLC Player installed. This seems utterly ridiculous to me (bearing in mind this is a primary school, so no specialist media teachers etc), and is causing a headache for those who only have 128GB SSDs (and me having to clear the offline files cache each week as they won't delete any work). My query is, do you set a limit? If so of how much, and why did you/the school believe this was a sufficient amount? Is it a soft or a hard limit? Personally I thought 10GB would be enough, and photos etc could go on the shared drives, however it seems a small percentage of our staff home directories are already below this size. *I know this has been asked before, but not for a while and obviously space requirements change.
  12. I also like the idea of being able to notify users of planned downtime / server reboots. Although a rarity, it means anyone on a PC can be told quickly.
  13. Thanks that's great - we'll probably hang-fire for this next update then trial it in a couple of classrooms to start with.
  14. Water meter would probably be cheaper. However last time I looked (early last year), if you switch to a water meter and it works out more expensive, the supplier must legally allow you to move back onto your old tariff. That rule applies for 2 years after making the switch.
  15. Thanks Tom, I'm wondering if there's any way to show this over the lock screen or is this a limitation with Windows? The only reason I ask, is that if a member of staff isn't using their PC for the lesson (for example, Drama or music lessons where the machines are rarely used), and an alert is sent after the force lock time it won't be seen. Most likely the solution would be used alongside another method, but have said I would ask this info for the SBM.
  16. Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was wondering how NetSupport Notify handles locked computers? I'm guessing not, however is it still able to display the alert over the lock screen? The reason I ask is that the school have an enforced lock policy on all computers, therefore it's common in a lesson for a computer to be locked. Would the alert get go amiss?
  17. It seems different versions of Windows 10 have a different KB No. for the update. Once the servers is fully up to date it should fix the issue without the need for the reg fix - obviously, not easy to down the server for everyone or when hosted by someone else in the case of hosted sims!
  18. I've just come across this issue today too, however when connecting to our internal 2012 servers. Is there a fix that can be done on the server for this? It appears the info from MS is lacking here, however this been a security fix I'd rather leave it installed and fix what's wrong on the server. Cheers edit: KB4103721 has the fix included.
  19. From my experience, I thought you did - but maybe not... I'll have to have a look further Just back on with these now and I'm having more of an issue getting them to work through smoothwall than anythign else! I've set the proxy setting but something's been blocked. As it's an LA run smoothwall, I need to speak to those to check logs for what's been accessed That looks great! Cheers
  20. Thanks but we have Smoothwall. However that's handy to know.
  21. Hi All, I have a school who have gone and purchased 30 amazon fire tablets... Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to manage these in schools? With normal android tablets, I know you can use the GSuite to manage them, however I don't want to go and buy the licenses to find out that the modifications amazon make to the OS prevent this from working. In my experience other MDMs aren't great for Android. Free or cheap would be preferable, that way I can persuade the school to go with it. Thanks!
  22. Call Google support and they'll get the ball rolling - it took us an absolute age to get sorted as Google never responded to our online requests (of which I think we sent three or four).
  23. Can't comment on that as I've never used it, however I'm sure @webman or someone else will be able to help you with this come the morning. An alternative however is OS Ticket if not - plenty of info and support online for this
