I think you're expecting too much too soon from them Regardless of wether we'll be able to support it anytime soon, or the fact that it'll be backbone tech - I do think it's pretty amazing, especially when you consider the fastest I can get at my home address is 11mbps - and that's on a REALLY good day.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I can't find a thread with the same issue. I'm trying to create a shortcut in RM Explorer for all users on an RM CC3 network (Win XP). I've copied the shortcut to the shortcut bank folder, and the RMMC is seeing it, and allowing me to assign it to the relevant program sets. The program sets have the correct permissions applied, as do the actual shortcuts in the shortcut bank. The problem I'm getting, is that even though I have done the above, the shortcuts aren't showing up in RM Explorer. They're showing up in the Start Menu, but the school rely quite heavily on using the RM Explorer for the younger students, so just getting them to use the Start Menu isn't really an answer, as much as I think it should be. Is there something else I should be doing to add the shortcut to RM Explorer? I've never had to do this before, so have figured out the above from a mix of other threads and websites with a little bit of trial and error in there for good measure. Any help would be appreciated.

Good idea! What would be good is if it could monitor other things such as keyboard and mouse as well... and possibly a password prompt once the cable is plugged back in? Thus, deterring the students from unplugging anything as they will need a teacher to get it working again.

We had a similar problem when we installed our Ruckus wireless system. Turned out for us that certain XP laptops didn't like WPA2 security, but only when certain users logged on. A new profile (as above, brand new, not copying anything but their work across), seemed to solve the issue...

Sorry, I should have been clearer - it's the actual canvas that's displayed white and causes the majority of the issues, whereas word actually inverts the black text on white background to white text on black background. In Publisher, you can get this affect by changing the page and text colour, but obviously this causes issues when printing it. Also, we're on Win7, Office 2010.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this, and can maybe offer some suggestions? We've got a student who at times, has problems with her vision and therefore struggles to use a computer. I've enabled access to the accessibility options for her and as standard she now uses High Contrast mode and this is helping her a lot, but at times she still has problems. I'm not 100% sure of her ailment, but I was wondering if anyone was aware of any third party software that may do a similar role for her, but allows more customisation of the config, as it can differ day to day on what she can/can't see properly. Also, does anyone know of a way of making Publisher display in high contrast? The rest of the office suite does it fine, but Publisher doesn't and the student seems to want to use publisher for a lot of things. I assume, the reason it doesn't display as high contrast is becuase it's supposed to be a publishing tool so you'll need to see it as the finished document would look, but it would still be helpful to have this option whilst she's working at it. Thanks in advance. edit - I should mention I've tried Window-Eyes, but I can only seem to get it to act as a narrator.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll probably go for the virual PC option, this allows them to have full admin rights so they can show networking options etc in the control panel too, which will no doubt be helpful for the networking module. I assume there'll be other things that would be handy for them to be able to show too... If they break it, I can just copy the virtual machine back across.

Thanks I'll have a look at that - but as you say, I'd assume it utilises the OS's ping command... We have a similar setup of 5 computers on a seperate workgroup network, with various switches and wireless routers for the students to configure, but I was looking at something more for the teacher to demo on their smartboard. If they break anything, it just gets re-formatted / wiped to factory settings. What harm could possibly be done? Linux live discs for all! I'm shocked there isn't a dummy command prompt simulator available, with all the functionality but doesn't acutally run the commands.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not speaking from experience with either of the two, but they don't support ping commands and the like do they? I was hoping to avoid this to be honest, but it could come in use for demo-ing various other things too I guess. Will speak with the teachers and see if it'd be handy for them.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a Windows Command Prompt emulator, whether it be online or a downloadable exe. The IT staff here are wanting to show the students basic commands such as ping and ipconfig whilst they're covering a networking module, but I'm very hesitant to give them any sort of access to an actual command prompt for obvious reasons. I've done a quick Google search but only managed to find linux ones.

Couldn't you export the books to a csv, import that to Koha and then start fresh? Run them side-by-side, checking out new books using Koha, and checking in old books with Eclipse until gradually all the rentals are on the new system? Not looked at Koha until now but that's what I'd personally look at doing... Out of curiosity, have you used Koha before, or are you only just looking at moving over to it? Would you recommend it over Eclipse, or is it a costing thing that's making you change?

Funnily enough, sorted this just by resetting the users local profile - problem still persisted on the admin account so never imagined this to be the problem.... strange :S

I realise this is an old thread, but thought it was a relevant place to post... Is it possible to setup WPAD without TMG? As TMG has now been discontinued and I'm having similar issues to the OP - everything I can find on the web is relating to TMG. Thanks

Hi all, Having a really weird problem here with a Startech USBVGADOCK2, in which when the user is working via the dock, and she launches IE - IE loads up but it can take 5 minutes or so for the contents of the page to be displayed. When using the laptop away from the dock it works fine. As a test I have tried the dock plugged in with the laptop screen still running and there is a serious time delay between the external monitor and the laptop monitor (thus far into starting this thread, the external monitor is still showing a blank text box and the laptop monitor is fine). Everything else on the laptop works fine, the only issue is when using IE. The laptop is on Win 7 Pro (64bit) and currently on IE9 - but I have also tried it running with IE10 and IE11. I have tried new dock drivers and new display drivers with no luck. I have tried a different monitor, no luck. BIOS update, no luck. I've done all the usual virus scans etc just to be sure, and the laptop came up clean. I have tested the dock on another laptop and the dock works fine - I have tested another dock (same type) on this laptop and the problem still persists, so it has to be an issue with this laptop - any ideas? The solver of the issue will be rewarded greatly (it's more likely that you'll just a thanks, but think how good you'll feel for helping me out).

Just think how many other schools are relying on this company and, due to lack of technical knowledge, are actually just going with what they say. As everyone else has said, surely they're breaking contract by supplying an inadequate service. Would love to hear their replies when called out on all this though.

+1 for Ruckus - wireless was patchy at best here until we put Ruckus in - touch wood not one wireless issue since. Pretty simple to use and there's a lot you can do with the system too.

I realise it's not the kernel, simply used the wrong lingo - but some kernels do work better with CWM from what I've read - only ever used CWM for a prolonged period for the recovery so can't speak from experience, only what I've read. When it came to my comment on the apps - that wasn't the point I was making, what I was meaning is - if the apps are installed immediately, it could be the apps that are causing the the drainage of battery (not necessarily when they're installed). I was merely mentioning doing this to monitor the battery usage with a fresh install of a ROM to be certain it is the system causing the battery drain and not a 3rd party app.

Was thinking about one of the TVs, but if they're that busy here it's probably not gonna happen :/
