Install CPanel on an old server/PC if it's going to be a permanent thing? I'm thinking they may offer an educational discount, but honestly have no idea if they do. Failing that, can't you bodge something together with SQL lite, filezilla and apache?

Thanks all... got a bit of a list going now: My next task for them is to unbox new laptops, and I'll image the machines with them. Check IT rooms & replace missing keyboards, mice, keys. Strip old department laptops for RAM/HDDs/Screens Repair department laptops with above (under my supervision) Show them some AD / GP etc... I've got two kids, one whos interested in IT, and one that seems uncertain which is proving a little difficult. They're both students of the school, so giving them a tour is a bit pointless. Will show them the server room(s) too. Should fill at least half the week - maybe stretch it out to a week. Then we're a support company so can send them to one of our other schools for a week where it's busier hopefully.

Unfortunately, as I'm fairly new to the school - I've already got up to speed with the above (making a first impression)... any other thoughts? I'd have waited had I known!

Welcome! That and Professor Messer, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux, Microsoft Certification Training has some very good (free) A+, N+ and MS training videos that cover proper course material... Wish he'd do more tbh.... Other than that, you'll pick more up by doing the job.

Just been told I've got 2 work experience kidsfor the week that I wasn't aware of... any ideas what I can do with them? Currently they're checking over a trolley of laptops for issues. I know there are problems with that trolley, so I've got them recording the problem to possibly be looked at during the week. My next task for them is to unbox new laptops, and I'll image the machines with them... After that I'm lost. Any ideas? Nothing really on the helpdesk they can do...

OK, I think this is me being an idiot... Did AppInventor used to be a local install, as appose to a "cloud" based app? Is an offline version available? I've come across AiLiveComplete! | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net - has anyone used it?

When I go to the app inventor to download and install the software (Setting Up App Inventor 2 | Explore MIT App Inventor), I get a red warning bar at the bottom saying IE is not supported and to use Chrome or Firefox... I'm not sure if this is supposed to display all the time or just if you're on the wrong browser. When I do install the software however, it still behaves like I'm using IE... User Agent settings in Chrome don't appear to have any config so I'm not sure if it's just me or there's something wrong with the compatibility of AppInventor and the latest version of chrome. edit - Links to setup (http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/windows.html)

It's an IE11 issue - We've had it with no SMART Ink... We've had to downgrade to IE10. Pobably best as IE11 is still very buggy and incompatible with a lot of sites.

Why not just restrict it with NTFS permissions, and / or set it as a seperate share so it's not within staff/pupil share folders?

I see what you're saying... I've already knocked up the earlier one, so for now will leave it as is, but may come back and have a fiddle around with the drop down boxes at a later stage... I've already created one similar to how you're suggesting for staff: I'm trying to put a GUI to a number of scripts I'd use regularly for my own use across sites... Still learning VB, so creating little things like this to pick up the basics. They are at most sites I support, it's just again, me trying to put some things together to pick up VB... We do have couple of sites who still map via script so might also be helpful. Plus some staff might be working on their laptop somewhere else in school for a day (working in a high school mainly), so we give them the above GUI to add the closest printer whilst they are, then they can easily remove it. We monitor printing with PaperCut, so no ones bothered about sharing deparment printers with other staff.

Will the DIMs need adding to these buttons seperately too? Sure this will be possible, I've had a search on the web, but as it's a bit difficult to explain I'm struggling to find an answer: I'm attempting to make a small tool (to use on multiple sites), that basically automates the jobs we'd usually run batch files and vb scrips for at the click of a button. Currently, I'm looking at adding the printers. Basically, when the "Add" button is clicked in the first image, the code from "Set printers" in the second image is run, but I want "SERVERNAME" and "PRINTERNAME" to be replaced by what is typed by the user in the retrospective text fields above. Is this possible, and if so how? I image its just a "ValueOfTextbox1\ValueOfTextbox2" type thing? Thanks in advance for any help edit - excuse the disgraceful design, this is just thrown together to show what I mean.

Nope, I'm with you on this one... Although a couple of things in the video made me think, "that'd be quite good", I couldn't justify £100 let alone £1000, and I think overall they're just a gimmick
