IT Tech posts x2: Kettering, Northamptonshire
mac_shinobi replied to Gerrant's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Any prospect of progressing to senior IT tech and how would you describe a typical or average day with regards to the sort of tasks that need to be done? Also if there is progression then how would that relate to a wage increase ? Also who do the school use regards to pensions ? -
Don't get me wrong, not complaining or moaning, just wishing I could get BT Infinity as better throughput ( speed ) and I don't want to ever go back to virgin media !!

Not sure how much help this is but would it be better if you found the relevant driver for the correct OS from the realtek website that has the NDIS2 driver files etc and extract the driver out of the msi / exe or are you able to use the exe / msi and inject that into your image etc ? @Arthur or someone else can most likely help better as I have not used WDS or MDT to be honest

Wish I could get BT Infinity or similar ( which is what Sky use as think they lease / rent it from BT ) , Can only get ADSL2+ so with Sky

The above is going to be the best thing to do. If it still won't power on then remove the RAM and try to power on to see if you get any beep codes

Only other thing I can think of that we have seen with Lenovo T410 laptops is that the power on button is apart of the keyboard and the power on button becomes faulty and the only way to sort it is to replace the laptops keyboard ( assuming that the power on button is apart of the keyboard itself ) ?

I take it you have tried an external vga monitor / screen etc ?
-
Hopefully not side tracking but just wanted to know for future reference ( as may be looking at getting a NAS for home use and was considering a qnap or synology ) Is it just a case of take out the bad hard drive ( that is having issues ) and stick the new / replacement one in and the NAS does the rest with regards to re-building the RAID over a period of hours or days etc or do you have to do something specific in order to replace the faulty hard drive or what exactly ?

Replied - Not that I have the £££ currently but was asking more out of general curiousty. Hopefully 8gb of RAM, 240gb or 512Gb SSD ( was thinking Samsung 840 Pro or possibly an Intel SSD ), Reasonable CPU and Mobo and wanted most of the money to go on the Graphics card ( whatever is better between Nvidia or AMD / ATI )

Boot disc to reset local passwords, ERD for Windows 7?
mac_shinobi replied to FN-GM's topic in Windows 7
I tried that a few times and it never worked, said it had reset the password and tried the new password whether blank / or a typed password etc. Now always use either trinity rescue kit bootable cd or the relevant orphcrack cd ( for xp or vista / 7 ) -

Archiving DVD Collection to Home Server
mac_shinobi replied to tech_guy's topic in How do you do....it?
Am not trying to break copyright etc but just curious, is this also possible for Blu Ray Movies ? Basically got a lil un and would be a lot better if we could in the near future get a NAS device and do the same or similar for DVD's and Blu Ray movies so that we can watch and use the digital copies instead of getting discs scratched etc thanks -
Not related but just wanted to say thanks to everyone including yourself for all the help ( past, present and no doubt future ) and hope you all have a great Christmas and new year

Presume that is similar to ( not the same ) as the OWC Data Doubler ( Mount 2.5 ) - although converting the optical drive connectors ( power & or data ) to SATA power and data ?
