Thanks Unixman I am adding the Z39.50 servers but keep getting connection timeout? Is there any firewall rules that need to be in place? Can you run Koha behind a proxy?

On Wednesday went around the school picking up left printouts/photocopies. This is from one room. I counted the sheets, worked out how much a ream of paper is and how much those printouts cost the school per print. The waste is costing the school over £10k a school year. Complaints that there is no money, but when there's this sort of waste what do people expect.

Hi all, We are currently a MLS Eclipse2 school but due to age and lack of support (and cost of lack of support) I have started setting up Koha on a VM for testing. I am going through the documentation but was wondering if anybody can give me some advice for setting this up for a UK school? Thanks

Ill pray for you, if you pray for me. Ill be wearing Kevlar for the next 6 months once the proposal has gone through. I am sure ill get accused of making staff jobs harder by making them actually have to stand up and walk to the printer rather than being able to wheel their chair over to it.

Thanks for all the comments. I have sent through the proposal to the headteacher with reducing the printers from 20 to 12, with further reductions recommended to 10, if possible. He is really happy with the proposal and is going to discuss it with SLT.

Thats what I am thinking we have 400 students and have 11 MFD and 8 desktop printers - way too much and way too expensive!!!!!

We are looking at replacing our printer fleet we currently have 20 printers across the site and I really want to reduce this as I really do not think we need that many. At the moment I have reduced the number to 13 by looking at the printers in the closest proximity to each other and whether they could share 1 rather than each classroom/office needing 1 and using follow me printing. Just wanted to ask in your schools how many printers do you have? Thanks

Probably nothing to do with it, but thought I would put my two penneth in. Our file server kept freezing at random times and required a hard reset. Updated all firmware, new RAM everything, turned out to be the anti-virus software running constant scan on new files and caused it to freeze. Turned out we had standard ESET end-point anti-virus installed instead of ESET Server anti-virus.

Hi all, Looking at network monitoring software. Due to budget cannot afford to buy one (shame as saw Solarwinds being used when went for interview at school looked awesome), so looking at free. I have used Spiceworks in the past, which I liked but used for inventory as well and crashed at 400 assets, anyone used just for monitoring? Currently playing with The Dude, Fully Automated Nagios and Pandora FMS community edition. Anyone recommend anything else or particularly one of these? Want to be able to see at a glance if anything is down, but also to be able to see network connections between assets and fibre connections. Thanks

Anyone recommend a good horror novel. I am a big horror fan but stuck on what to read next. I am normally a fan of Jack Ketchum, Richard Laymon, Stephen King, James Herbert, but stuck. Happened again this morning. The remoteapp seems to be getting stuck on Themes Setup during the connection process. Driving me nuts. Its just affecting two users everyone else is ok.

Hi all, I am having a problem with 2 teachers not able to access SIMS via the remoteapp. This is not the first time it has happened and I had to restart the server to fix the issue. Today the issue has again reared its head and its the same teachers. I assume they are not shutting it down or closing the app properly, but I can't work out how to fix the issue without restarting the server. On the pic the staff with SIMS working have services under session and several applications under image. The two blank blocks under session are the staff who can't get back on SIMS and under image they only have regsvr32. Under Remote Services Manager i have tried ending the processes but they will not clear properly. Any advice?

Hi all, The school want me to place a countdown timer to the Year 11 exams, excluding weekends and holidays, I think its 98 days now. Short of changing the number myself everyday, what would be the easiest way to do it automatically? Sorry if I am being simple. Cheers
