Hi Jools, No, never could get the word dictation to work. But I worked around it by using the Windows 10 speech recognition which can also be used to type with. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-speech-recognition-windows-10 It worked well enough to keep them happy.

Is it possible to backup a VM file server even without something like Veeam? As its expensive and we have Backup Exec 16 for the normal file server backups.

Hello, I am currently setting up a new file server, well not new, but newer than our current one. Has anyone got any recommendations or best practice for setting up the file server? I want to ensure that this gives the best setup for the school, past file servers have been setup in a rush and through google. I actually have time to get it right this time. Much appreciated.

I have gone to Freshdesk. Was able to create a helpdesk for each school, works really well and for free can't complain at all.

Hi all, Nearly there. One of my schools, wants me to look at a way to use Office 365 for Parents Evening bookings. I thought about Calendars, but don't want parents seeing teacher calendars. Could it be done with Forms and Flow to feed into a spreadsheet that teachers can print out? I have looked around and found a post where someone suggested G Suite with choice elimination addon, is there anything similar for Office 365? Many thanks

Is there much in the way of setup for Always on VPN? This is for our staff laptops so that they can access from home, offline files is driving me bonkers. We do use Office 365 so was looking at OneDrive on-demand. Anybody used it? My only concern with storing on onedrive is accidental deletion and recovery? Also want them to access the staffshared which they can't currently.

Hi all, My school has been using offline folders for a while now, but it drives me nuts I find it so unreliable. So i would like to look at Work folders or direct access. Which one would be recommended? I just want staff to be able to access their user drives from home as the main thing. A bonus would be for them to access the shared areas as well. Many thanks

Hi, I have been tasked with finding a way that we can have students and staff agree to an acceptable use policy on login and for the results to be recorded. I know Impero, Netsupport DNA etc. do this but I need to find a free solution? Is there a way to run it from a script that feeds into an excel spreadsheet? Hi, thanks for that. Yeah I did create a room, with capacity etc. from my admin dashboard on Office 365. But I am finding anyone can delete bookings that have been made. I'm just not sure how to give people the ability to make bookings for themselves, but not to delete anyone's bookings as they can do now. Do you share the calendar as you would normally?

Hi all, I am setting up Office 365 room bookings calendar and i want to setup permissions so that staff can add room bookings but not delete anyone else's bookings. When I try to share the room calendar all i get are Can View when i'm busy, Can view titles and location, Can view all details, Can edit. Can this be done? Cheers

Hi all, We have a new member of staff who is left handed and wants to use the mouse with the mouse buttons switched. I have setup a logon script to switch the buttons in the registry but this works intermittently. Any other ideas that might work better? Cheers

I am the only person to have ever used Xibo so whatever I pick it will be new. I just need something basic, as I am not at the school much anymore, so need to pass off some of the normal jobs I do.

We have just moved to Libresoft from Eclipse 2. Libresoft were amazing really helpful and got us up and running in no time at all. Fantastic system, the librarian is happy, which is an achievement in itself.

Hi all, Looking for a free digital signage setup that is easy for non IT literate staff to use. Currently use Xibo, but the interface would confuse and bring fear to the admin staff. I am not at the school much anymore so need something basic that they can use. We currently have on our current setup, Powerpoint presentations (that I turn into videos), posters, the school website new section, but I would like the staff to take this on, so that they are not waiting on me all the time. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Tried this in gateway yesterday and I couldn't get any Internet connection. Followed this advice: You will have WAN and LAN zone interfaces. So basically one interface defined as WAN, which uses the connection to the router. In the router should be only one interface (XG). This Interface will be setup as DHCP Client. The other interface is defined as LAN and runs an own DHCP Server. This LAN interface works as a gateway for all clients. It provides DNS, DHCP etc. You should start with a simple LAN to WAN Rule with MASQ enabled. This should work in the first setup. Afterwards you can play with all the security features in the firewall rule and see, what happens. But this should work for every connection fine. Still couldn't get it to work. Should I be using it bridge or gateway mode? Do i need to setup DHCP etc on Sophos or can I allow it on the router? I am tempted to try Untangle, PFSense or OPNSense if I can't get this working, as I am pulling my hair out. Wanted to use Sophos as we use it as one of the schools I work at and thought I could get a firewall for home and learn how to use it, at the same time. Though it does seem like they have taken the business setup and just said its an home edition.

Hi all, At one of my schools they have a Salto badge and door access system. When we try to take photos on the system we have issues with the webcam. We are using a Logitech C270 Webcam, for the photos, but any browser I use to access the Salto system errors out when using the webcam. In Firefox when it asks for me to give it permission to access the webcam I get - "Argument 1 is not valid for any of the 1 argument overloads of URL.createObjectURL. In chrome i get - "No flash detected." Flash is enabled. Internet explorer i get a blank page. I give permission to the browsers to access the camera. When I do get the camera working, after taking one photo I get a sharing violation when I try to take another. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
