Its that time of year again when we need to start looking to buy a quantity of PCs for doing up a few rooms. As the hardware forum is sponsored by SCL i thought i would have a quick look at their prices and to be honest they seem to be very good. I have looked at our usual suspects who we sometimes buy off and SCL seem to beat their prices . I was wondering if any of you had purchased PCs from SCL before and could give me any feedback as to how you found them ie , build of kit, phone support, on site report, values for money. I know they may monitor this hardware forum so if you would rather PM me your response then please do. Many Thanks

This would be really useful if someone could do this for me?

We have had a series of folders renamed in a staff area. We have gone through all the usual ways to find out who has done this but nothing shows up. Is there any way that you know to that will help us find out who could have done this?
-
Yes I would be intersted to know this as well.

Our is turned off here, shoul dnot need tobe on really, like mentioned above if you lock desktops down through GPO there is no need fo it to be on.
-
Our is split on 2 servers but it was installed this way. Serco installed this and advised us of this set up. As for helping, i'd be at a loss really.

You need to get your SLT to back you on this and enforce what you want done, if they don't then the staff will just take the P**s. If then the staff don't comply they have to be dealt with by SLT/Head and this will make them think twice about not doing it. I do agree with others though and a better solution is needed, but like so many others money is a problem. Email is a option to do what your doing but you need to get full backing from the head to enforce this.

So, If you buy office 2007 licenses you can install 2003 under them? We are looking to buy our licenses for 2007 but dont intend to go whole school 2007 until we have money so could we infact install 2003 with them?

Any ideas Geoff?

How long you had them for?

We are going to replace another server which holds all our student and teacher resources. (not home dirs) This can contain anything that is prepared for students to access from the network created by staff for lessons etc and also info for staff. It currently holds around 250gb of stuff and is nearly full. Fast acces time is a must. Rackmount again.

What sort of minimum spec should i be looking for for a server that purely runs Exchange 2003. It has 200 mailboxes with no plans to add to this. This servers role will ideally only be Exchange. I don't think we will be going to Exchange 2007 (can't warrant spending the money for what we use it for)at this time but our current exchange box is on its last legs and also out of warranty. We will leave the old exchange box online as it will carry on doing other tasks till it dies. Must be Rackmount

I am thinking of buying 12 of these HP Laserjet P2015N Mono Laser To use in our new ICT suites, I want to move over to a HP printing solution now and these fit the sort of price range i am looking to spend on a network printer. Just wonderd on your thoughts and alternatives you may suggest?

I use the script below, you can edit it to keep certain folders such as we have 'default user' administrator and all users' The chice is yours. It has worked very well for us. Function Main() On Error Resume Next Dim obtainfolder Dim PathFolder Dim strPath Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") strPath = "C:\Documents and Settings\" Set f = fso.GetFolder(strPath) ' Loop through all subfolders For Each fldrItem in f.SubFolders fldrName = fldrItem.name If Right(strPath,1) <> "\" Then PathFolder = strPath & "\" & fldrName Else PathFolder = strPath & fldrName End If Select Case fldrName Case "Administrator": Case "All Users": Case "Default User": Case Else: set obtainfolder = fso.GetFolder(PathFolder) obtainfolder.Delete true End Select Next ' Clean up objects Set fso = Nothing Set fc = Nothing End Function call Main()

Have you checked permissons on the users folder? Why not just set the H: as the users drive in GPO?

I don't have enough time in the day as it is let alone spend time filling in time sheets for jobs i do, especially the little jobs. It would take more time to fill the sheet in than do the job for some of them.

But what is the setting in the ADUC of their accounts has the option ticked for password not to expire? We do not let anyone change passwords but themsleves they have to come to us. We have run the odd script on a OU to force all users to chage password at next logon but very rarely.
