We have our set on another drive on the same server, MS say you can have it on the same drive but its better performance wise on a separate drive.

  11. We use Odyssey careers software, which is installed on one of our servers. The shortcut is then placed on the desktops of the kids computers and they launch it from here. It has worked fine for what’s been over 12 months but no it’s stopped. We use a mapped drive to the users PC’s and the shortcut is done through the mapped drive letter O:. If I log onto the server it is fine but if I run it from the PC’s in question it does not work. I know it is not a permissions thing as I have given my account full control to the files and it still does not work. If I map the drive on the server it is installed on it still works but the shortcuts do not work on any other computers. The error that comes up is this ‘Could not locate database E:\Odyssey\JobFIle\JobFile.abs’ For some reason it says E:, I have changed the ini file in question to O and it still does not work. I can’t see what has changed because we have done nothing to the server at all.

All the best to the Gatt family.
  15. I'd also like to add to this post, I have been using Sophos for 4 years here from V4 to 5 and now 6. I have a a 800 client network all running Sophos. I have had hardly any problems with it. Yes V5 was a pain but i delayed moving to this from the feedback on here and no sooner didi i upgraded to 5 then 6 came out and i moved pretty swiftly. I guess i am lucky that most of the hardware we have us under 5 years old and runs Sophos no problems. Yes we did upgrade to a better server as the older one was useless after going to V5. I agree that the memory problem was and still is an isssue and i can tell this on some of my older Dell 500L laptops when they log on or do a Sophos update. Again i am lucky that i don't have to shop around for price even though Sophos has hiked up their prices but then why would i want to move from something that is serving the school well in my opinion. I feel for all of you who have had problems with it, I have banged my head on my desk, then again on the wall so i know what you have gone through ( and this applies to shed loads of software we have to work with in Education) I would also agree in moving away from Sophos if i had the troubles some of you have had but i feel very lucky to have not had much grief. My only problem now is i feel Sophos could have handled this differently and not gone to the lengths they have done. This will not cloud my judgement as i feel Dos Box has dealt with the situation correctly and i will continue to use Sophos becasue i think it does a good job for our school but i dont think they have done themselves any favours on Edugeek.

  21. Is there anyone in the above LEA areas that have Dell's Ultra Small Form Factor PC's or the Small Form Factor preferably that i can come and see a room with these in so i can judge the space saving option used for these type of PC's? We are thinking of having 2 suites of these this year and space is very tight workbench/desk wise. As usual we choose to convert smallish classroms and expect to get a 20 pc suite.
  22. Do the USFF pc's come witha external power pack? Do the SFF come with a internal power supply ?
