  1. We have some Dell L 500 which are now in their 4th year. The batteries are still excellent so we went for 70 new Dell's in the summer just gone. I'd stick with Dell's for us if i were in your position.

    BSF Handbook

@peterc whats your role in all of this? are you a fellow techie or other?
  3. Keep away from D-Link......just my own personal opinion though.
  4. What about non ICT roles, ie: we have a tech who just deals with AV. Such as all the IWB and projector problems as well as making sure staff have all the media equipment, cameras, camcorders etc are ready for when class and departments need them. I know this might sound a lot for one member of staff full time....but we have 56 IWB and projectors, 5 mobile projectors (that staff book for certain lesson where there are no IWB ie mobile classrooms) we have several media studies courses running as well has the P.E dept using specialist software such as Dartfish which they need camcorders and cameras set up for the lessons. Does this role come under the BSF roles or will this sort of work still need to be done by a employee of the school ?

Here is the link for the book on Amazon If you are interested please PM me with offers.
  7. I've now got one of these books left. This book is brand new and has never been used or even fingered through (so to speak) :-)
  8. Can you imagine the teachers and SLT if this was the situation. Some schools don't know how lucky they are with their IT support, but i think eventually they will find out when they get a second class managed service support bod. It will mean the good schools who use ICT to its max and try new things will drop down with ICT and the por schools who have poor ICT staff for whatever reason will see a maybe improvement. What i don't like is how little the school or SLT know whats going on or what is going to happen to us. DO they realise that I or any of my team could be moved to another school or central point and they will get a password.printer cartridge changing numpty to replace 3 of us? I doubt it and i also get the feeling that when they do thre will be uproar but it will be too late then.
  9. Net Framework. 2.0 Printer drivers ?

    BSF Handbook

We have had this already, at our school. In september it was, "we won't loose you and will pay you out of our own budget." In mid january after the 2 million funding carrot was dangled then it turned to "you'll stay here till BSF take over and then you will be TUPE'd over." Fill's you full of confidence with SLT. Trouble is i get the feeling we know far more about the BSF project and procedure than all SLT put together.
  12. To all you robocopy users, i have never used this but may have a look at it now, I have just found a GUI for it, i guess you all knew that but if not its the second one down in the list HERE
  13. We VNC Con (old i know) to monitor kids screens. It does what we want and we also have a reg key that stops the kids right clicking and choosing 'kill client' so they can't turn us off. But on some not all of our machines the icon is there and goes black when you connect so the kids know and instantly shut the windows down of games etc. Is there a hack/patch we can use to stop the icon appearing at all? Its weird because it appears on nearly all our computers but not all.
  14. I know this may be cheeky but i need help. We have over 35 Promethean boards at work, but i need to download the version 3 and resources. I tried all day to do it it at work but our LEA supplied Internet was up to its normal crap speed and kept timing out. i meant to download it at home this weekend and put it on cd but ....................i forgot to pick up the bloody code. Now i don't expect people or want people to post their codes on the forum as this is not appropriate...but if someone would be so kind to PM with one so Can do the download at home this weekend i'd be really grateful
  15. Exactly as we do it.
  16. Did you go for 2gb in the finish?
  17. I followed the MS article details below for a 2003 server. I put the follwoing netsh dhcp server export C:\dhcp.txt all into a CMD file on the DHCP server, then set a Schedule task to run at midnight nightly to back up to a network share on a different server. Full MS article HERE
  18. netdiag /fix from a cmd prompt on your DNS server. This should fix any problems with your DNS regarding the A records, but not 100% sure. Check the MS article HERE
  19. I have DNS running on our second DC as well as the first. I have DHCP sitting on a second server that is in a standby mode (ready to be kicked in should the first DHCP server go down. It is set up with all the scope options and reservations. I export the DHCP scope nightly to a txt file and should i need to bring the second DHCP online i can quickly import the settings from the night before.
