I have just had to check out a problem with a machine and found out aproblem with our DNS and DHCP. The DHCP entries are correct but in DNS the ip address for the same computer are differnet. I have checked others and it seems to be mainly laptops but it could be PC's as well. These laptops users movea bout a lot from room to rrom all day. What is the quickest/correct way to fix this? I have before just mass deleted all the DNS records and then let them re-regester over the day? What should be the correct way to do this and perhaps stop it happening again.

Any one able to get me a copy of that please?

Thats similar to our script but its easier to manage via in GPO than all users folder.

I have two printers in each IT suite, I add these printers by 2 seperate logon scripts with the one script telling it which is the default printer. IE I have a mono laser and a colour laser in certain rooms. Now we dont want the default printe to be the colour so i add a little line in the script of the mono and it then sets it as default.

We have lots of duplex laser printers in our IT rooms but none of the staff or kids use the facility. The staff have all been shown how to use them but don't seem to bother and dont seem to bother telling the kids. But.....they are all too eager to tell us of the amount of printing that is being done and the amount of pages that are being printed along with the paper being used. Do you force your kids to use this facility or is it left to them? You comments please?

Thanks Guys I am still undecided but we havea site survey tomorrow so will pick more brains then. Ours is a big site so you I know its going to be costly.

I have a script already to do this and i am quite happy to use it but is there an option possible to add a line to the script that forces the user to use - say a minimum of 8 digits in their password.

I was wondering on peoples thoughts on this. We are about to upgrade some of our switches but we are unsure about GB to desktop. Nearly all the pc's we buy in from now on will have 1gb nics. Should be looking at upgrading these switches and core switches to allow for this now? or should we only really look at 1gb to desktop for Media studies or other video editing etc. I thought I'd ask before we go on the upgrade path and get quoted in?

Now you know what i was going through when i was picking your brains when we tried out thinclient here. I still want to use thin cliet for certain rooms but this forces me to manula change the DHCP options before or after school so i can re-image a pc/laptop then change them back so the thin clients can log on next day. I wish/hope their is a way round it. I take it Ric that you never had any trouble with RIS? only now you do with WDS?

Thats me out of the equation, i only know about wireless routers.

Looking at this from a different angle, I could do with a script that i can run from sheduled tasks say once a month that will force users to change the ir password at next logon. But i would also liek the script to force the password to be at least 8 digits. Can this be done. I only want to run this on staff accounts and not kids so i can't set up a password poilcy s you can only have one per domain. Anyone got a sample script?

We had this problem with Dell's IIRC. I think in the end for a quick fix we had to take the TFTP server options out of DHCP to get it to work. I know this i not an option for you as you have thin clients, but this DHCP settign screwed WDS upf or us. As soos as i took the setting out it worked. Try it it may not be the issue in your case.

Cost is an issue here i'm afraid. :-(

Can I or is it possible to set up a password policy on OU level. We have a our default password policy set up at domain level but i want to add a second one at OU level. We want to change certain restrictions on a group of users in a OU. We want to tie these users down a little more. I would like to force a 8 digit/letter password. To expire every 30 days Possible to force a muxture of letters and numbers To stop the same password being used for a lengthy time. Can this and how would this be set up?
