  4. I know this could/is a luxury but i am going to ask the question any how. Our media studies dept will move into a new block this summer, 40 computers in the block will be for Media. There will also be another 100 computers in this block for the ICT dept. We have 5 buildings all connected by fibre backbone. The file servers are located in another block. I do not really want to have these large files flying round the network when media are using the computers. I have nearly 1000 clients on the network and this is a worry for me. We are upgrading the infrastructure in the summer as well but i thought i may put a file server in the same block as the media studies pc's. This would cut down on the traffic immensely but at the expense of a server. I do have the money to buy on and will if i get the right feedback from this post. Just wondered your thoughts?
  5. We recently installed Policy Central (again) and it is now far better. I am the first to put my hands up and say that i did slag it off over 12 -18 months ago has it caused all sorts of grief with educational software (Smartboard, Promethean, etc etc,) I recently installed the ltest version and it is far better nad have had no problems what soever. Yu can deploy the client via GPO or via the software’s own deployment tool. It does catch the kids and staff out when you can reproduce colour pictures of their wrong doings. Just thought i would mention them again as i also like to praise software vendors as well as slag them off.

  10. We use Sleuth as well and like bossman we have had it for 4 years. We too are lookinhg at doing this via ePortal and CMIS but to get 4 years of data out of Sleuth database to CMiS is a nightmare problem.
  11. We have to change the domain\administrator password for security reasons. We rarely used the account but it did do some things. I am getting lots of errors in event viewer now. One which is an earlier post which is NTDS replication settings. But i am also getting Failure Audits Event ID 675 Pre-authentication failed: User Name: Administrator User ID: domain-name\Administrator Service Name: krbtgt/domain-name Pre-Authentication Type: 0x2 Failure Code: 0x18 Also Event ID 1083&1955 Active Directory could not update the following object with changes received from the domain controller at the following network address because Active Directory was busy processing information. Object: CN=Administrator,DC=SCH,DC=UK All this happened since the domain\administrator password has changed. I have googled with out much success.
  12. For security reason we changed the administrators password on the domain(as we want to get away from using it it at all) Since then i am having NTDS errors on both DC's and also SAM errors reported in the event log. I have checked services.msc for any accounts that may have been using the admin account and there is nothing. I also have check Google but with no luck. Below are the errors can anyone help me please? Source NTDS Replication Event ID 1083 and 1955 Active Directory could not update the following object with changes received from the domain controller at the following network address because Active Directory was busy processing information. Object: CN=Administrator,DC=SCH,DC=UK Network address: 1c0d18cc-9d4b-4baf-a2a8-9b08100adae9._msdcs.****.SCH.UK This operation will be tried again later. Source SAM Event ID 12294 The SAM database was unable to lockout the account of Administrator due to a resource error, such as a hard disk write failure (the specific error code is in the error data) . Accounts are locked after a certain number of bad passwords are provided so please consider resetting the password of the account mentioned above.
  13. Right, It lookslike it shows them accessing the folder but it does not show an event for the renaming of the folder. IS this correct or have i set this up wrong?
  14. need to test it out now
  15. Should the event viewer tell me who renamed/deleted a file or folder?
  16. Should i choose Full Control for the auditing?
  17. I need to set up auditing to track changes to folders and files on one server in the domain. I do not want to set his accross all servers so i suppose i need to edit the local GPO????? What is the best way to do this and what are the pitfalls? I need to get this up and running a.s.a.p. How would i go about this? I need to know who accessed file or folder, when and if it was changed?
