Hi guys. If anyone can help with this, I would be really grateful. I recently did a post re home mesh wifi. During the Amazon Day deals, the Velop Wifi 6 APs came up. I went for them as I had some vouchers to use at Amazon. After some hassle getting the pair to talk to eachother due to having a managed switch, they now talk – I needed them to talk via ethernet as my new build has ethernet in each room and they couldn’t; talk via wifi due to range issues. Anyway, it works like a dream, however…Apple Homekit is now refusing to work. I contacted Linksys and they told me the APs do not support Apple Homekit Secure Router. I did some looking into this and this is not what I want. I currently have an iPad mini which is the Homekit “hub”. Faiiling this, I have two Apple TVs which are the standby devices. What I have found is that since switching to Velop APs, all devices (and there are many) in Homekit just show as “Not Responding”. It doesn’t matter what I do, they never come online. Through LightWave, Hue etc, everything works fine, Alexa fine also. So clearly, there is not a connectivity issue here. There is 100% an issue with the Velop system. If I plug one of my old Apple Airport APs back onto the switch and give it a different SSID, if I unremember my Velop SSID from the Homekit hub iPad, and add the Apple Airport SSID, it works immediately. All other iOS devices are connected to the Velop system, but so long as the Homekit hub iPad is on a non-Velop AP, Homekit works perfectly. Why the fuuuuuuu is this? I can’t understand what Velop is blocking. The app they give you to use is very basic, and I can see nothing in there to help. These APs seem really good so I don’t really want to send them back, but I have invested a fortune in Homekit enabled smart accessories so I need it working. I would have loved to have got some Unify APs as many suggested in my last post, but they were not included in the Amazon deal 

Hi there, We have a second DC server which runs: WSUS Paxton PaperCut Backup Exec WDS WSUS is constantly running the server out of space. Today, as an example, I am unable to image any computers as I need to add the NIC driver to Deployment Workbench, but I can't as there is 3mb spare on the server hard disk. I am thinking about removing WSUS from the server, installing Windows Server 2016/19 onto a new desktop computer with a big 6tb drive and making this desktop the new WSUS server. Does this sound like a good idea? Most of the other roles on the current second server would be a pain to move where as WSUS will just be a case of installing on a desktop and updating my WSUS GPO with a new server location. Would be grateful of any suggestions. Was thinking of going for an HP ProDesk 400 G7 Microtower with i5 or if not available, i7 P.S. I have already gone through WSUS and deselected options we don't need. I also run the cleanup wizard every week and it is not helping. It is using just under 1tb. The server is too old to upgrade or add any additional storage to. All bays are full and already raided.

Just a quick update to say thanks everyone for your help. I went with HP Aruba JL253A and JL254A switches with the 10gb DAC link cables thanks to @Davit2005. Everything is working so much better. I am going to set them up on a VSF shortly. Thanks again guys.

All correct and 3metre is as long as I was planning. Only really need that to go from bottom of stack to top, all the rest would be 1m. Thanks very much for your post.

Hi everyone, I went for some Aruba JL253A and JL254A switches and they are working really well. The building is joined via three main cabs, all have fibre so with the 10G fibre modules, this is working nicely. In the main server room, there are currently 6 ZyXel non-managed 48port switches. I am going to replace these with some JL254A switches and will configure all of these switches as a stack. My question is, does anyone think it is worth linking these all with 10G SFP+ transceivers, or just go with the 1g ones?

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has some medium-high and high spec recommendations for home wifi? I have a 2 bed new house which luckily has ethernet in both bedrooms, lounge and all routes back to the cupboard where the phone goes into. I have one of the new BT hubs but it has wifi turned off and I am currently using Apple Airports. They are starting to struggle, so was looking to replace these with something better. I am unable to use my PS4 on the wifi, as the signal is so laggy, but the PS5 I have is hardwired in so works fine. Can anyone recommend some good Wifi APs to replace my Airports? I don't need any bridging as I am lucky to have ethernet to each room. Would be very grateful of any recommendations. My broadband is around 20mbps down and 7.5up. Just me living there but lots of devices, iPads, gaming systems etc. I had wondered about ubiquity but the APs are designed ideally to go on the wall or ceiling. My network ports are all low to the floor near the plug sockets so it wouldn't look very pretty to mount the APs on the wall.

Hi there, I am thinking of purchasing a few additional laptops for the disadvantaged children we have to use at home. Obviously, supply is quite limited at the moment and I notice quite a few come with Windows 10 S. I can see online that it is possible to switch from Windows 10 S. Has anyone had any issues switching from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Education?

Thanks everyone for your posts. I have been given no examples of why they need the password, they are not even half way through their contact with us, so it is not as though they want a competitor to go onto the server. I am all for letting them bugger up the network and then calling us in as all it will do is create a revenue stream for us, however I am afraid at this point in time with covid etc, I am not prepared to give out a password that would allow them to destroy the network. Much in the same way, if there were a contractor in to do work maybe Paxton Access or similar, we would not give them the main admin password. It is imperative at this point in time, that the ICT infrastructure works and that we can facilitate the learning of the children either in school or out so I will go with the suggestions posted here in terms of allowing one local admin account for one specific person. Once things have settled down in terms of the virus etc, I will discuss with them the matter of the password and re-iterate for the 100th time the implications of them having it and using it.

I have been working with a primary school for a number of years. They only get me for a short time each fortnight and are fed up of waiting for me to come in so want the administrator password. The school have asked several times and I have strongly advised against it each time but they are not listening. Their bursar is "good with ICT" so they would like the password. It is just laughable. Thankfully, the school has increased the ICT support time so now a colleague of mine goes in every other week, so they have someone once per week, but still, they want the admin password. I am not prepared to give it so I figured that the next best thing would be to create local user accounts on every machine on the domain with admin privileges. Then if they really can't wait a few days for us to install something, they can log in and do it themselves. Can anyone advise if this can be done easily via Group Policy? We are running Server 2016 Standard with Windows 10 client machines. Any help would be great. I am simply not prepared to give out an admin password for the server and see them destroy the hard work we have put in over the years.

Furthermore, if I go on the server and locate the user in question's My Document folder, I can see that they have no permission entry unlike other users who are able to delete things. Any ideas what could have caused this? Also, I am finding that lots of the individual user folders which should have their %username% as the folder name are just showing "Documents".

Hi there, I have a Windows server 2012 with Windows 10 clients. I am finding that some users are not able to delete some files/folders within their My Documents folders. Has anyone else had this? The error they get is: I have looked in the Security for the folder and the user in question is not listed in the Groups or Usernames. If I create a new folder in their documents when signed in as them and do the same, they are listed as their username in Security with full control. It seems only some, older files and folders are having this error for certain users. Does anyone know why this could be?

Hi there, My head is wanting to conduct governor meetings in larger rooms such as the ICT suite where staff can be in the same place but spaced out more and looking at the big interactive screen. Can anyone recommend some good quality web cams for such a job? Would need to be ones which can pick up the audio of a larger area. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried to open Indexing Options but it is not in my Control Panel. I have followed both steps listed on this site: http://www.tomdoyletalk.com/2009/05/26/indexing-options-missing-from-control-panel-in-windows-vista/ But it is still not showing, so looks like there must be an issue there. I rebooted server after doing the registry edit, but made no difference, it still isn't showing in Control Panel.

Thanks very much both. The reboot has helped. I managed to open up the version of Tree View I have. C:\Windows\Temp was 67.5gb which is currently deleting. Once this is clear, I will have a look at the event log settings as @pyorm has helpfully suggested.

I noticed a server 2012 was running very low on space at the start of the week at one of the schools I look after. I advised them that when I am on my next visit, I will need to spend some time getting to the bottom of it. I arrived an hour ago to find the following... I am unable to open an Explorer window as the error just keeps opening whenever you click on OK. I have managed to get CleanMgr running but it tells me it is able to free up 0 bytes. I have attempted to shrink some of the D drive to see if I can then expand C but the wizard just keeps freezing so I am unable to free anything up. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can sort this thing out? This is not the first time it has lost a considerable amount of C drive but last time, I got to it in time before it went to zero.

I have been having some issues in getting other users to be able to see the shared document folder in Sharepoint on their One drive. I found this helpful online guide for SharePoint, but can't find anything specific about OneDrive. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/guide-to-sharepoint-modern-experience When I am logged in as administrator, this is what I see, which is perfect, but as other users, they are not seeing it. I have made sure the right permissions are set. If I select manage access on the shared folder, I can see that all of these groups/users have access.. I have ensured that SharePoint is public also, but still not working. If I log in as a user, this is what I get... Any ideas?

Update, I fixed it. I had put the DHCP server for the gateway. Fixed.

I have been asked to set up an Aruba AP505 RW wireless network. Never done one before, but apparently, these use one of the APs as a virtual controller. I have set one up and I believe it is a virtual controller, but when I add more brand new ap's to the POE switch we have for these aps, it boots up but it is not showing on the APs section of the virtual controller. The default password for these APs is the serial number. I am trying and trying on any APs I add to the POE switch, but they are refusing to let me on either with their own serial numbers or the virtual controller password. Does anyone have any ideas? I should have another AP showing here and not getting anything. It is getting it's DHCP from our windows server, so I can go on it's web interface, but totally unable to log into it to find out what is going on. Thanks in advance.
