  1. Ah ok thanks. I will check the server has all of its windows updates first tomorrow before I take a look. Thanks
  2. Thanks for your post. I would do but the RM server is a 2003 and I don't think you can do that sort of thing via gp? I know you can on our 2008 r2 admin server.
  3. Hi, I have a CC4 network running Windows 7 clients. They all appear to be running on the high performance mode for power settings. Whilst this is fine for desktops, the laptops are barely lasting a morning. I raised the call with RM and got back: The first link is useful, the second one does not relate to my problem. From the first link, I can see what registry settings I need to look at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{025A5937-A6BE-4686-A844-36FE4BEC8B6D} And then 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e for balanced. But I have no idea how to create this in a custom policy.
  4. Why could it be that on my system, if I ping any nic on the network, it replies no problem, but if I ping with a buffer size specified (any buffer size), the request times out. I am very confused!
  5. Hi there, I visited a school late last week who appeared to be having some nasty troubles with their ceiling mounted InFocus projectors (Infocus IN2102EP). Around 4-5 class rooms (all with the same model and make projector) had reported that when turning them on in the morning, they could keep turning themselves off. One teacher reported she had to put it on 8 times in the morning. But once on for a while, they stay on all day. This to me suggests power supply. As clearly the bulb is ok or it would have not come on straight away and would not last all day. The bulbs are the originals and have not done many hours <500. The projectors themselves are just over a year old each. Does anyone have any suggestions or help on what could be the cause here? They are out of warranty, and are not clogged with dust or have cheap Chinese import bulbs, they have original bulbs.
  6. My goodness. I go home for the weekend and come back to all of these posts! Thanks again for all of your posts and info. Today we had some further network issues which really didn't help. It has been keeping me so busy it is a nightmare. I noticed the HP Procurv 2510G-24 & 2510G switches, I also noticed that they were twice the price of the HP Procurve 2610-48 port and HP Procurve 2610 -24port that I mentioned in the op. My question is, in your opinion(s), would 1gbit be worthy of a primary school? We have just over 100 pc's. Mainly RM. Around 40 laptops which use the new RM managed wireless system (Trapeze) We have an RM CC4 system and a windows 2008 server system for windows 7 clients for admin which have around 15 pc's. There is no ict suite, just lots of computers for class rooms. There is no expresso or mle system here. In our cab we have: A 1 x Allied Telesys AT-8000S 100mbps 48 prt managed switch B1 x Allied Telesys AT-8350GB 100mbps 48 prt managed switch C1 xAllied Telesys 100 mbps 48 very old unmanaged switch D various 100mbps mini switches for the admin network. (no more than 24 ports needed) I had already earmarked C and D switches to be replaced. But what with the continual network issues I am experiencing, I am now wondering about replacing the lot. But if I were to go for these gigabit managed switches at over £1000 each, I would be looking at £3000 for switches a,b and c and then about £350 for a 24 port managed hp switch for admin. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi, I work in a Primary school in London, which currently has a selection some old and run down 100mbps switches (non managed) and some allied telesys managed not so run down switches. I want to replace the older ones with some new managed switches. I had my eye on two, HP Procurve 2610-48 port and HP Procurve 2610 -24port But was supprised to read that the induvidual ports on these only support 100mbs. Can anyone else recomend any switches for the same sort of price which support 1000mbps? Or do you think the two I have mentioned will do run a primary network nicely for the next 5 or so years? We currently have no 1000mbps switches, we have a windows server 2008 system and windows 7 clients all for admin and a rm cc4 network with around 80 laptops and 30 desktop pcs mainly windows 7, but some windows xp. Thanks
  8. ahah, very useful. Thanks very much
  9. Hello, is there a way of getting a local copy of Smart Gallery? When installing to multiple systems, it takes a long time and lots of bandwidth to download the gallery. If there was a way of obtaining an msi installer of this, it would be so much easier, does anyone know of such a solution?
  10. Ahah, I have just found RM tech TEC1421182 This seems to do the job! Sorry for the waste of a thread.
  11. Hi, I am doing a rather large CC4 project at my school. All is going very well, however I have one system which constantly plays up when using my build media. It installs the os perfectly, but does not join to domain or run updates. Rather than waste time, messing around with it, I was going to simply add it manually, like you could do on cc3 (RM SmartClient Info [bishop Barrington IT Wiki]) But when I browse to my RMHolding\Utilities\ I don't have a commissioning utilities, only a commissioning updates folder. I can't find anything about this on RM support or in the supplied booklets, can any onehelp?
  12. IanT, did you get a chance to find your document? Thanks
  13. Ah thanks so much. They put mine as a priority number 3. I did the dns change form, and then they called today and said I must do a Wan Management one and pass it though to the borough. Maybe there are different rules on this in different boroughs? He told me, for security reasons, the borough must accept the changes first before Synetrix can do the work.
  14. Ah if you have it and could show me what you put in, I would really appreciate it. Apparently, we need to send it to our LA first for approval before Synetrix will accept it. Rob
  15. Hi, I work in London at a school on LGFL. They are due to get a new RM CC4 Server and part of the pre-setup requires that an extra dns host record is created to allow RM EasyLink to work correctly. It also needs port 433 opening on the school firewall. Synetrix have told me I must complete their exceptionally complicated WAN Management & Security Change Request Form. But I am not sure which boxes to fill in. For firewall, it has two virtual firewall boxes but it wants to know IP addresses, IP ranges and all sorts. Has any one ever filled one out before for usage with EasyLink, and if so what parts of this form did you complete. Thanks
  16. Hi, not too sure where else to list this post. I am a part time network manager for a few schools. Have just taken on a new one. They have a Samsung widescreen LCD mounted on the wall after a recent new build to their foyer and admin offices. Does anyone have any good suggestions for software or systems I can connect to the screen to display info about the school etc. I can't remember for the life of me the names of some companies providing solutions. Even tried looking on the bett site. Think there is one called LiveChannel. I would prefer free solutions, was thinking about maybe going down the lines of powerpoint! Thanks in advance.
  17. Thanks guys for your posts. I will follow up on them and send you some pm's later this week or early next. Thanks again.
  18. Hi everyone, I could literally spend all day looking for the best printer here. I would like to get one which is not too pricey per copy but one that has cheaply available toners. I don't mean rock bottom cheap toner, but just sensibly priced. Does anyone have any in mind? It is for the admin department of a primary school so would be used a little like a photocopier and printer for office based documents. They have a photocopier for bulk jobs but its a walk away down the corridor. I was quite impressed with the Konica Magicolor 5670EN Tried HP in the past and disappointed with build quality and consistent parts failures on printers under 1 year old. Thanks talksr:(
  19. Hello, I am having office 07 problems. I have a windows 7 system on a 2003 domain logged on as an administrator user, if I change default font size settings, font settings or pharagraph settings. As soon as I close and re-open office, my changes are gone and it has gone back to default. Any ideas? Rob:troll:
