Hi there, this is a personal question for my own home network. I have done my best to draw it out (don't make fun out of me!).... I have a CCTV system I installed myself. Two IP cameras on the side of the house, both have an ethernet lead which runs up into the loft where they connect directly into the back of the DVR which has it's own POE ethernet. From there, they go to a switch in the loft which is connected to a powerline adaptor. The other powerline adaptor is in the cupboard where my "fibre" broadband (copper fibre) socket is. From the powerline, it goes back to an ethernet switch and then to the router which also has wireless. The router assigns DHCP to everything, there are no static addresses anywhere and the default gateways for all network equipment is the router as assigned by DHCP. My question is.... if I wanted to install a computer which connects to the CCTV DVR solely to display the CCTV like you would ordinarily do with an HDMI cable to a screen but in this case a connection via a browser showing a live feed.... would there be any benefit to me connecting said computer to the loft switch? Would the connection be more direct in terms of data transfer? Obviously at the moment, my house has sockets in all rooms but not the loft. Any hardwired ethernets go back downstairs where the cupboard where the phone line is which means at the moment, all CCTV DVR connections are getting through via the PowerLine adaptor. I am wondering if I plugged an ethernet into the loft switch (which is directly connected to the CCTV dvr) and put a laptop on the other end. Would the laptop still connect through to powerline down to the router, then all the way back up to get the CCTV feed on a browser? My PowerLine adaptors are 2 x Netgear PLP1200-100UKS 1200MBPS and all of my switches and devices are 1gbps ethernet. Thanks in advance for any expertise!

Hi there, This is a one off system, it is mine and used for CCTV, accessing our VMs all sorts and would really rather not do a re-install. It comes with a 110gb SanDisk. There is a 2gb HDD which is used for My Documents redirection. Running Windows 10 1903 with just 10gb free. I am running the disk cleanup regularly, but it isn't able to help much. I have access to some 256gb SSDs and also a 400gb SanDisk. Can anyone recommend the best method to duplicate this existing disk onto a new one so that when I boot it, it just boots up as though nothing has changed. If I need to enter product numbers, no issues, just don't want to have to faff around re-installing the OS. Any help would be really appreciated as this would be handy for general knowledge for future issues.

I have a school with Cisco Managed wireless. It works a treat however there is one building which is not hooked up to the Cisco WiFi system. They have been using Apple Airports for years, however, Apple don't make these anymore and their existing ones are starting to get old and unreliable. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement? They will only need one or two. The cost of expanding the Cisco WiFi solution to this area is prohibitive, hence my posting this post! Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning, We have returned from the holidays, and I have several staff members complaining that the notification icons next to the clock on the task bar are impeding their view of open and pinned programs. It seems to have happened since the computers have updated to 1903. As these computers are connected to interactive screens, they tend to have quite enlarged, and big resolutions so screen space is at a minimum. I have taken a a picture of one of the systems in question this morning... Is there a group policy I can use to inhibit these? There doesn't seem to be anything available locally on the system its self for the user to do other than to to "Use small taskbar buttons" which helps slightly. The above picture is taken with that option enabled.

Thank you, we are a large primary. I am in the fortunate position whereby the Head, SMT and Bursar will be in full agreement of whatever I propose as they also want to secure our assets as much as possible. If anyone has some examples of agreements, it would be really handy. I might see if I can get my final one checked by someone in a legal profession as I am not letting people get away with it. There have been several incidents at this place before, with the cut backs, staff need to behave sensibly and take reasonable precautions as you say.

Hi there, I am working with a school who has a track record for staff not looking after their equipment. Digital cameras come back smashed to bits with in months of them being ordered and handed out, school class iPads go missing and end up in the bottom of sand pits etc. Instead of laptops, we have ordered an iPad per teacher. The iPad comes with a full Office 365 subscription. We are using CleverTouch boards which mean that in addition to the iPad having its office functionality, it also can display onto the interactive screen making it potentially a visualiser as well as a class camera by using the camera on the device. These are going to work out much cheaper than the laptops, however, I am worried about people not looking after them. They are easily breakable by careless hands and I was just wondering if anyone else on here has drawn up any agreements for staff that must be signed. I would like to make it pretty clear in the agreement, if you want one, that is fine, but if you break it, you will be paying to have it repaired at an authorised repairer or pay for an entire replacement. That way, we are not forcing staff to have them, but if they would like one to facilitate their job, they must follow the strict rules. Just wondering if anyone had the correct legal wording for this. With budget cuts left right and centre, these need to last and I am really keen to protect our assets in any way I can. I have even gone to the extremes of buying our own cases for each and every one and a cover case also so there should be no excuses for breakages as all of the protective gear has already been provided. Thanks again for all of your efforts. I really hope Microsoft will take note. Smaller schools like this are being forced onto Windows 10, which is not as smooth to administer as Windows 7. There are so many issues with it, and the smaller ones simply cannot afford the hours to put things right. It makes the OS look sloppy and incomplete which is a shame as Windows 7 was not like this.

Hey, I am afraid it was further bad news. Everything I tried would not work, so I have gone ahead with the 1803 to all stations purely on the basis I had wasted about three days and got absolutely nowhere. Really frustrated with Windows 10. Have had noting but problems and issues with it from Start Menus not working, UAC issues when trying to open apps to so many issues deploying it. It has by far cost us the most in terms of my time in trying to sort it all. Anyway, thanks very much for all of your help on this.

Hi there, Has anyone had any issues with Nuiteq SnowFlake MultiTeach software? I have deployed version 7.0 via Group Policy using their MSI. It deploys no problem, however, when I am trying to open it on client computers, I am getting the message: Error Application was not run with administrator privileges, this application requires administrator privileges. Does anyone have a work around for this? I am assuming it is UAC related. It is happening on all of my stations, they are all Windows 10. Thanks in advance.

Just a quick update. I attempted to get in touch with Bretford six separate times and not once did they have the courtesy of getting back in touch. Regardless of cause and fault, their sales team were always so keen to contact me when I purchased my units. I have four in total , which amount to thousands of tax payer money. The sync stations are certainly not the cheapest around, and in my opinion are some of the most expensive. I have got the batteries replaced by a third party repair company, but just wanted to express my disappointment at Bretford. I certainly will not be using them moving forward and would recommend them to others as when you have an issue, they just ignore you.

Hi there, Has anyone come up with a way of auto-shutting down stations at the end of a day? With Ranger or RM CC4, you could set a task to do it for this for you. This was really hand particularly during holidays or night time as you could disable it so the computers would remain on, so you could do update work or testing on them. We use vanilla now and I am struggling to find a suitable way to auto shut them down other than a task. But the problem with a task is that it would be on each individual machine. If you wanted to leave an entire ICT suite on over night to do updates, you would need to manually disable the task on every station which would be far too time intensive. Does anyone have any clever ways to deal with this problem?

Thanks so much, that did the trick. I am a little rusty. I am an ICT teacher, but I was originally a network manager. It is hard to remember everything whilst doing the lessons. So it isn't worth me adding the groups to Security Filtering, I should just link the GPO in the teacher user folder for any policies which include user configuration changes?

Ok, but that will re-install Windows 1809 again. It is not the task sequence I made to capture Windows. It is the one to install it. So I will loose all of the drivers and additional software I put on.

Quick update, same problem. No capture is being listed. Exactly the same as before, just Deploy Office 2016 or Windows 10 v1809 x64 TS

The computer in question is located in Site>ICT Suite DELL. The GPO in question is located in Site, so it should be getting to this system.

Thanks for your help on this. Ok, I think I know why this could be. I have done as you suggested, but when I create the new Task Sequence, the only OS available in Select OS is Windows Edu 1903. This is the one which does not come up during the Light Touch Windows PE pxe boot when using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. I have manually upgraded the system in question from 1803 to 1903. I will try again the PXE boot now and see if it shows the option. It really seems to me that parts of MDT and Deployment Workbench are not talking to eachother.

Hi there, I am quite mystified as to why this is not working... I have vanilla Windows 10 clients on my 2008 R2 server. I have set up a GPO called W10RemoveRun For testing purposes, I have added TStaffsGroup to the Security Filtering. TStaffsGroup is my group for all Teaching Staff users... Here are the configuration settings for the GPO, all pretty simple really... These are the delegation settings: This is the actual setting I am enabling. I note in "Supported on" it doesn't mention Windows 10, but you would assume, if it is supported on earlier OSs, it would be on Windows 10. After several GPUPDATE /FORCE commands reboots etc, it is not working on any system on the site here. Users can right click the start menu on Windows 10 and select and use the run command. They can also access it by pressing Start Menu Key + R. Can anyone give me any ideas on why? I have googled how to disable Run on Windows 10 and several sites like this one are showing that I am doing it the right way. Baffled:(

Sam, Bad news, Here is what I did: Windows Boot Manager Selected: Lite Touch Windows PE (x64) Microsoft Deployment Toolkit Selected: Run the Deployment Wizard to install a new Operating System Credentials Entered in username, password and domain. Task sequences are displayed. But there is no capture sequence. As you can see, the capture task is not showing on the Task Sequence when booting from PXE boot: This is becoming such a headache!

Following on from my last post, if I go through your instructions to create a Task Sequence to capture the version of Windows I have set up, I am able to add the task sequence no problem.... But when I run LiteTouch.vbs on a client system I would like to capture, as you can see, the exact same Task Sequence list is showing, and your Capture Task Sequence is not on the list. So I am currently unable to deploy Windows 10 1903 and I am also unable to capture any version of Windows 10. You mentioned: Where do I find this?

Hi, yes followed all steps for ensuring my Deployment Toolkit is working. Have not got to your steps yet as I cannot get the latest version of Windows 10 to show on WDS. I followed this guide to install the newer 1903 version: When I got the error as show in the last post, I went ahead and uninstalled then re-installed Windows ADK for Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows PE add-on for the ADK. The error then cleared when I did a refresh, but again, I am unable to see Windows 10 v1903 from the Task Sequence within Windows Deployment Wizard. This is all I am getting: This is not right. I have followed the instructions exactly. Here is my newly imported OS: And here is the new task sequence, which should be showing but is not: The two sequences it is showing are within the main Task Sequences folder. I have a Deploy Office sequence and an old v1809 sequence. Cannot understand why it is still not showing my new 1903. I have deleted and started from fresh as well as updated the deployment share countless times. It is like WDS and Lite Touch Windows PE/Windows Deployment Wizard are not talking to each-other and recognising the newer OS. The only difference I can see is that in the YouTube video, he was Microsoft Deployment Workbench V 6.3.8456.1000 and I have 6.3.8460.1000. But I re-downloaded from Microsoft site today, so I must have the latest version.

Thanks very much for your help with this. I seem to be having an issue. I updated my ADK, then added the new Windows 10 1903 image to Deployment Workbench using Import Operating system. It has gone on no problem and is showing in Deployment Workbench, however when I am F12 booting to Windows Deployment Wizard, I select Lite Touch Windows PE (x64) and after authenticating, I am getting these options... I have a task sequence for it, but it is not listing. I have opened Deployment Workbench, updated Deployment Share and got the following error: === Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue is?
