Extend the subnet mask or if contiguous IP addressing is not available on the range you are using you will need to change to a different range.

I know I can see the option in the panel hence the exclamation. How far you'd get I wasn't willing to try just in case.

Is the word process still open in the background because it's not closing properly for some reason? Check task manager I get similar issues when I press certain buttons before closing the add aspect dialogue box in individual reports.

I know this is a bit old but for the sake of a complete answer..... They changed the ACLs a long time ago so you need to specifically ask to get access to another schools range. As has already been stated if the adjoining set of IP addresses are available you can then just change the subnet mask to something like 255.255.254.0 or 255.255.252.0 (depending on how many IP addresses they give you), if not then you will get a completely different range. I ran on other internal ranges for many years until they introduced Light Speed then we found the client needs to have your assigned WAN IPs in order for the reporting to work properly. As we have VLANs and a firewall this was an issue. The solution we came up was they gave us a new larger IP range and they changed the route for this big range to go to our "external" interface on our firewall. I could then split this large range up internally and our core switch would route. I know this second bit is more complicated than Si needs but I include this for completeness on the subject .

They are a fairly straight forward fit just take note of the obvious like will it default to DHCP or does it start with a static IP or will you be configuring via a console cable? On the subject of cables, if you are ever using a serial cable on a UPS, do ensure it's the right one as some of them will make your UPS switch off!

Just exercise caution as you have stated, make sure you can run all the essentials on one/other servers if you have an issue with one node then all is not lost. Should something go wrong you need to know your way around the cluster management MMC and the ISCSI one as well. I to get occasions where a certain volume doesn't come back online (from the same SAN as the others!) and it's usually just a case of reconnecting the volume in the ISCSI section, which involves re-entering the password or to avoid that I will try another reboot first. Make sure all your ISCSI targets are listed in the favourite targets. Most of the time the IQNs are not very descriptive, make sure you know what is on each volume and how to get at the contents to rescue VHDXs etc if you need to. Very occasionally I get a VM that will refuse to start but I have full access to the files, in these cases I make a new VM and move the VHDX over.

Fully managed Procurve all the way, I have a few web managed only ones and they work fine but they are a bit limiting from a management/monitoring point of view. I wouldn't consider Netgear over Procurve given the choice as having run various models for over 10 years they have all been rock solid reliable.

Are you not using normal volume shadow copies on your file server? Or are you looking for some kind of up to the minute restoration of files?

We get it randomly and just fix it like you do, there doesn't seem to be any particular cause.

For the last 9 years we have used a SAN for our main storage including user files and virtual machines I have had 1 HP and two EMC (3100, 3200). I have always been happy with the performance of these and I can't say they have ever had any trouble with the load. We have only ever had one SAN though utilising different hardware for disaster recoveries. The first SAN we got represented good value for money, but as later purchases were made and requirements changed with redundancy etc the cost is getting too high and I would really like a proper redundant solution with two matching units for which SANs are a bit prohibitive now to be replacing every 3 years. I have been toying with the idea of utilising the Server 2012 features for storage and getting my moneys worth on the hardware side with storage capacity and two servers. I know that this sounds like a bit of a backwards step but I am trying to balance cost, storage capacity and redundancy here. Has anyone got experience of both kinds of storage systems for Hyper-V (SAN and SMB3 based cluster) and would like to comment? I already have two servers running FreeNAS stacked with SATA drives and reflashed LSI storage cards which I use for block storage for DPM etc but I am looking for a more generally supported method as no doubt with all this academy conversion I will undergo some kind of audit at some point. I would likely be looking at some kind of 8 bay servers with an extra quad NIC plenty of memory etc. Our setup is: 300+ clients 20 Virtual Server (plenty of service sprawl there!) The usual school software, so not a lot of large files flying down the wires.

Once I have promoted the structure etc I export the set lists for the HoDs and let them tweak them and I re-import.

They need to be admitted unless you have pre-admission ticked somewhere, can't remember now. We have the new year 7 as accepted until we actually see them in person, then we admit them as it's hard to get rid of them sometimes when they turn up at another school!
