It's something to do with the logo being too close to the border or some such nonsense there is a thread on here about it, experimenting now but not having much luck.

Okay thanks everyone I got it working pretty much, I may just have to add a custom field to SIMS for the internal job titles in use. The only issue I have now is I can't run them all at once because I get the System out of memory exception. This must be a SIMS limitation as I have plenty of memory. Does anyone know any way round this or a configuration somewhere to change?

Okay seems to be working okay apart from the photos appear to be different sizes which is annoying. Is there a way to standardise these eg a fixed size table cell or something ?

I was trying to make a report for our staff badges so I could bin our old software. I managed to make the report and the content works fine, the only issue is I want the document to be the same size as the badge which is 8.5 x 5.4 cm. Now if I make an RTF document outside SIMS and re-open it, it keeps the right size; if I try and do it through the edit template in the reports properties, it looses it custom size. If I reopen the same document outside SIMS it's fine! Any tips here ? Thanks ChrisH

We have the same and I was using that method temporarily but linked to AD but the principle was the same, if you get stuck I can point you in the right direction.

How about making 2 simple usernames on the filter for staff and pupils and enforcing log on or make the standard filtering at the pupils level and make staff log on for more access ?

What do you use for logons ? Are they all local accounts ? In your situation I would say it would be simpler to use group membership for the filtering. If you want to make it network based you are going to need a router or layer 3 switch to do the routing which I think might be overcomplicated for your setup.

Got mine all sorted now, you must have an IP address from your assigned 10.x.x.x range. I still have my firewall in-place and my separate VLANs so everything worked out okay in the end.

I've almost reconfiguring my client IP ranges. I have managed to retain my firewall and my internal VLANs. I sent a proposal to BTLS to subnet up my existing range and use my 'external' firewall IP as the next hop. They decided that it would be to messy to advertise all of those networks so what they did is give me another range of 10.x.x.x and pointed a route to that at my firewall IP. I then subnetted that up for my internal VLANs for the client computers. It's all working well now and I am happy with the result. My configuration is because of security and not because of a particular size although it helps to be able to segment certain traffic.

If your ports are set up as a trunk or link aggregation there will not be loop. If they aren't in a trunk and spanning tree is blocking one then obviously you will get a loop.

After traditionally running NAT at our perimeter for 10 years to give use internal flexibility it seems the only way to get the lightspeed client to work properly is to be on a valid 10.X.X.X ip. I know they mentioned about changing our IP addresses in the lead up to this but I thought there would be a way round this. What I want to know is what do other Lancashire schools have at the edge of the network as the only way I can currently see this working is if you are going direct to the router unless you have had some modification to your layer 3 Cisco switch and the network is pretty much flat and no extra VLANs are in place. I would love to hear what the current config that people are running, we had a recent thread about which ranges we are all using etc but I would like some more information for some inspiration or options I am not aware of. I was going to subnet up my Curriculum range but the edge router/switch is not going to know about these extra subnetworks and is always going to assume they are on the same network and therefore send an arp request, rather than go to the next hop so this is never going to work. So please post up your setups or any ideas for future setups, that you know are going to work. Cheers Chris

I think the only real options are the on-site Rocket or me changing all my IP ranges and subnetting up my curriculum range, the only issue I have with that is the router interface is always x.x.x.1 and if I wan't that in it's own subnetwork I'm going to be wasting 125 IPs which I can get away with but its a pain. If it was at the end of the range I could just use a /30 mask.

So I have to pose the question how many schools use different internal VLANs (not just admin and curriculum) ? Surely I can't be the only one who is using multiple VLANs with a layer 3 core switch/router ? I know there are plenty of you out there with Procurve 5400s etc. I have a VLAN per building/cabinet and functional based ones such printers, phones, domain wireless, guest wireless etc. I managed to get my firewall to do 1:1 NAT so each client would map to its own CLEO IP (which shows up fine in the lightspeed logs correctly) but that doesn't help with the client which will always report the clients IP address and not the one it gets mapped to. I am assuming in this situation an onsite rocket is the only answer but I never heard mention of having to make any IP changes from other managed service providers. Is anyone in Lancashire utilising VLANs like me and has subnetted up their allocated ranges ? I can see this as an option but I haven't sat down and worked it out yet. I really don't want to be changing my whole internal configuration because of the internet connection that just seems so wrong but it looks like my choices are: Onsite Rocket (mentioned in some of the information a while ago) Change my whole internal infrastructure including IP address, VLANs, ACLs and routing. So am I alone in this or have other people in Lancs having to make big changes ?

Well after playing with various options on my firewall my clients all now map to their own valid intranet address which shows up in the logs and stops all the issues with the web auth getting confused, unfortunately this will not fix the client issue as they still report their internal IP so I made some progress but I think I have got as far as I am going to get.

I've had similar issues and it must be linked to the local profiles, I just put a shortcut to a script on the desktop to reset the proxy settings for users and pushed the same reg settings through GPP.

I'm going to play with the terminal server client, see if that makes a difference. * edit hmm looking at the instructions I think this idea is a non-starter.

I haven't had time to play with the client today but I am seeing all sorts of weirdness regarding logging on. More than once now I have seen a block screen and when I look at who's logged on it's a teacher who is logged onto a completely different computer ! I don't think it's handling the fact that my traffic is all from one IP address, but I don't see why this should be that much of an issue, it's not exactly an uncommon set up!

My username does appear in the log as action login but I'm still not logged on in the browser. I made sure require authentication was on and this spent about 30 seconds thinking about it and then went to the web login page (which works fine).

Hmm the log says: Which apart from the update error tells me it got my username successfully but this doesn't seem to have been picked up by my browser (IE 11/Chrome Windows 8).
