  1. Anything specific you'd buy? Any particular era?
  2. With £85 million you should have enough to buy a DeLorean and some plutonium, build a flux capacitor, etc.
  3. Laptop, psu, mouse, etc. CD wallet External hard drive Web cam Presentation mouse 2 pairs of earphones 2 Pen drives 2 backup tapes Family Guy DVD Camera USB Battery charger USB multi-card reader Case for CF & SD Cards Spare glasses Mini maglite Hayfever tablets Small notebook Pen & 2 pencils Several pay slips ... think that's it ...
  4. Not work as such, I'd certainly do some sort of volunteering though at the local primary school and various other charities.
  5. I'd stick with the hammer. Screws are just "serrated nails" anyway AKA "attitude adjuster"
  6. Help some of my family to varying degrees Help some of my friends to varying degrees Support several local & national charities, not just with money but also time and effort Visit the various friends I have worldwide or even better pay for us all to meet up somewhere in a 5 star hotel! Buy a nice house with enough space to store the car collection I plan to start Get a dog (or ten if my wife has her way!)
  7. From personal experience, I went from being an IT Assistant in a department of 2 in the Private sector looking after at most 5 servers, 200 users & computers of all types to a Network Manager in a school with a department of 2 with 20+ servers, 1200 users, 500 computers of all types and I'm now ultimately responsible for it all. The only difference was an extra three days holiday, the salary was exactly the same.
  8. A Fistful of Dollars: Help a department spend the remainder of their budget at the end of the year before they lose it For A Few Dollars More: Convince a department head to buy a reliable make not a “cheap and nasty” The Good, The Bad and the Ugly: Prioritise non-urgent or mission critical tasks according to how the requester speaks to you or treats you
  9. Should have gone to Specsavers: Insist everything is plugged in and switched on then watch as the technician presses the ON switch on the power socket Confused.com: When told to click on Start, reply with "Where's that?" Compare the market: Buy hardware or software without consulting ICT Support and when it doesn't work say you did lots of research on the internet Laterooms: Arrive twenty minutes after the lesson started saying that you didn't know there had been a room change despite the fact all the pupils did I can’t believe it’s not butter: No matter how many times you’re told YouTube is blocked by the LEA still ask for it “for just this lesson”. Relocation, relocation: Move offices at least twice every academic year How clean is your house?: Have a huge pile of cups, plates, etc. in your classroom because you can’t be bothered to take them back to the staffroom Daily Politics: Get exactly what you want without any experience, ability or talent purely by knowing the right things to say and / or the right people Enemy at the door: Despite constant backstabbing and whining about ICT Support ask them for a favour when your personal laptop has a problem Mythbusters: Prove that a member of staff’s computer isn’t really slow and that they therefore don’t need a new one Open All Hours: Complain to ICT Support at 8:01am that the problem you emailed them about from home at 11pm the previous evening still exists DIY SOS: Explain how you or your friend / partner have made a problem much worse by trying to fix it as you “know a bit about computers” Would I lie to you?: Create the most unbelievable story for how the computers in your department became damaged despite you having excellent classroom management skills Commando: Swear blind that you attended all the relevant CPD sessions despite nobody seeing you Total Recall: When given an answer you don't like start your counter argument with "At my last school.." Swarm: Take at least 4 friends with you when you go to ask ICT Support for help The Devil Wears Prada: Ensure you wear the latest fashion every day to work so that people concentrate on that rather than your abilities
  10. Why? Small village, two pubs!
  11. Shall be taking a walk around the village tonight via the Polling Station.
  12. I thought it was strange that they didn't do anymore Sarah Jane Adventures, now i know why.
  13. That's what I wondered. There are a lot of departments using them here for various things and I have never installed software for them.
  14. Is it just simply a case of a Virtual Disk being a Raid array in Dell speak? So 3 physical disks become 1 virtual disk
  15. Definitely! I want mine tracked and I can buy 5 for that! FV432 APC Witham Specialist Vehicles often have some truly amazing vehicles. Don't know if it's still for sale but they had a fibreglass Harrier used for recruiting purposes at air shows, etc.!
  16. We use Cunninghams here and the only issue I have had is getting past the receptionist because we no longer have a support contract with them. Other than that I think they have always been good with their support whether it be onsite or via remote login. The other thing we have recently done with Cunninghams is link it to an online payment system so that parents can pay via credit card 24/7 therefore reducing the need for children to bring in cash or cheques.
  17. They are both Sanyo PLC-SE10 projectors. We noticed one had a very bad convergance problem* and decided to borrow a lamp from another at the other end of school only to discover that was the same. * Assuming I'm using the correct term! Anything projected has a duplicate in green just to the left - this is particularly noticeable with menu items such as Focus
  18. Sorry to highjack the thread but I have a convergance problem on 2 identical projectors. Would this also be the polarising filters? (New lamp did not solve problem just made image much clearer!)
  19. I hadn't but now I'm playing around on the page, moving the mouse cursor!
  20. We use Google and I personally connect using Outlook 2003 via IMAP. The only real issue I have had is that occasionally emails categorised as spam have gone into my inbox (after clicking on them to see if they were legitimate) and wouldn't delete unless I logged in via a web browser.
  21. Pretty much the same as above. As well as finding it restrictive I wasn't impressed with their engineers or their telephone support plus thought the salesman was one of the worst I had ever encountered, although that was 2004 so they may have improved.
  22. Assuming you want new then just go directly to Dell. They will give you a Premier login that allows you to access the "Schools - Best Price Online" area.
  23. Not necessarily! I shall have to find a link later but I believe the plan is to commission HMS Queen Elizabeth but it will only carry helicopters so no catapult system will be installed. This will (possibly) be fitted to HMS Prince of wales when it enters service, at which point HMS Queen Elizabeth will be mothballed and possibly sold. * Found one source: http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/cvf/ "No catapult or arresters will be fitted in the initial build but the carrier will be built to accommodate a future back-fit. The carrier will be fitted with a steam catapult or electromagnetic launch system and arrester gear, if the option to convert the carrier to the conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) variant proceeds."
  24. Despite the fact that we invented the thing (and a lot of other carrier technology we no longer use) the last carrier we had with that facility was HMS Hermes. We sold it to India very soon after it returned from the Falklands in 1982!
