we use java to show these details on an html page, would that be any use?

we've used it for conditioning laptops for exam conditions but found it to be pretty hard to use on a multiple use basis.

hopefully this wont mean a price increase as the linksys stuff is pretty good value

thats very true, they do are good for that. my point was more that they told my teacher what he wanted to hear putting the onus on me to fix a problem theyre software had created. Similarly i think they aim software at teachers rather than for the general school. its caused massive problems at the school because teachers want the best parts of the network version and the standalone version and for some odd reason are suggesting that its my fault that they cant have both!. I think taht attitude stems from the fact its a company the teachers are comfortable with and so they dont want to believe that anything it produces could be flawed in anyway, also that the books are ok, but the software isn't so they seem to look at me like i'm the weak link!

sounds like theyre very aware of the fact that the people who will force the purchase of their software will be teachers who will invariably have little regard for the poor tech who has to make it work. the same mob who told one of my teachers that its possible for his tech (me) to recover data using "some third party software" that theyre program deleted!

blimey side winder, if you want to get rid of any of any more stuff were just down the road and would love some slightly older stuff as we only have 2 generations of pcs at the moment .

create mst file, find a decent vnc manager and run the script automatically one evening.

the xml file is one way of doing it, then u can deploy it using group policy. the way i did is it to create an mst file and then run the setup execuatble from the machine, this way has many more options for deployment than the xml file, it cannot however be run easily as a group policy.

back everything up, twice. and check it all. in fact, i'd get used to the system first, then rebuild later.

i'd prefer an msi than a smaller update, and possibly an update msi rather than the semi manual way its done at the moment.

is fine for me from a share, not had anymore than 5 users on it at once though, so cant promise that.

having an msi to update would possibly mean that the user wouldn't need admin permissions to access sims and that it would be updated more regularly so its available there and then for when the teachers need it ( the teachers here only use it once a month say, and they cause a fuss because they need me to do the upgrade for half and hour, i think they'd prefer to lose an hour over the course of the month to have it there and ready for them, it would also make it look less like i was solely to blame for sims not working on demand!)

hello all, ebuyers its usual uninformative self, i'd like a pci wireless card that will load before windows ( so it can log onto the domain), and will work with wpa-tkip.

oh, and the deployment pack is very bad, best way to deploy it is using wsus.

ie 7 went out just fine here. Group policy was fun, did several things, including turn off phishing filter turn off user survey turn on tabs turn off other toolbars ( and then uninstall them as they play havoc with ranger) turn on menu.

even with windows managing the wireless the drivers still wont load unless you remove the program that attempts to manage the drivers. Best thing to do is delete all the programs you can see that are to do with the wireless, and install the wireless again using just the drivers.

hello all, a little help? i've set up a cd based image, and tried to set up an unattended install, but it never works. which file do i need to create and where do i place it? i've tried creating an unattended.txt and renaming it blah.sif and placing it in the i386 folder.
