snot true, try installing a certificate from a 2003 machine to a vista laptop.( and then cry into your cornflakes when you have oddles of machines needing certificates ! )

nail meet head!, exactly! i cant think of a single use for it!. As for leaving in headphones its easier that way as i dont have the time to plug them in each time a teacher wants 5 seconds of sound for there class.

i'm fed up of kids telling me that the network isn't quick enough!. it would be a hell of a lot quicker if the kids werne't allowed to use youtube all day. we also have problems with kids breaking the headphones ( i cant imagine it comes during lessons when they record soundbites twice a year) and with overcrowding in our suites leading to kids complaining they cant do any work. RAAGGEEE!! anyone else have a policy on you tube and similar sites?

it should have a form of remote desktop on there somewhere, if not the vnc further up is cracking.

maybe they're not logging off? maybe theyre just hibernating. i know when i changed the printer names and thus the scripts here it took a month of calls to the helpdesk before people bothered to log off.

its a horrible program. i did get it work, but that was just pure luck, i wouldn't be able to offer any advice on installing it. the one peice of advice i would give is that if you install the network client on a machine that had the standalone sofware on it you will lose data.

not sure to be honest then chap. its a fairly simple script, if the permissions on the folder are set to everything for everybody and the code is correct in the script then it should all work.

normally i would recommend using a text file to check the logon script was working!. in this case i guess the most obvious thing to do is check to see what else the script should be doing and seeing if taht works. i'd imagine your logon script would be doing things like mapping drives and adding printers.

BLAM! same problem here, i cant get it to create a mst file in the same way i did office 2007.

hmmm, can only imagine the logon scripts aren't running properly or the permissions on the folder aren't right. have you checked that all the people you expect to be tracking are using the logon script?

how many where you expecting?. remember it doesn't track log offs either!.

Ive tried that but it doesnt seem to work? apend it onto the end of a bat logon script. as is, apart from the unc part at the end which needs to point to a folder taht has modify perms all round.

question is why are they using ranger on laptops!. i'm fairly sure that there is no way around this , i spent a while investigating it and didn't find a solution.

echo %date% %time% %computername% %username% >>\\servername\logon\log.txt tack that onto your logon script. works a treat.

hello all, have been requested to add a welcome message. We have ranger installed on the machines we need to display it on. i've found the gp for displaying it, but would like to display a html page as then the teachers have to create it. i dont want to use it as the default page. is there any way of starting a html file at startup?

not helpful i know, but i have the same rig and it works perfectly. i know it gets funny with all day events, and doesn't show them very well, would that explain it?

try aquarius computer supplies, i found them on amazon, 2 splitters for £6. Just for a giggle, try disconnecting the projector and leaving the monitor plugged in!, took me 5 minutes of twiddling to figure that one out last time our ict staff had a rewire.

you can still synchronise, and use the connection on any machine using the usb connection. but the wireless is a big bonus ( unless you can afford a hefty gprs bill!)

mines tomtom, helpdesk notifcation, calender, email archive, contacts list, remote control for school devices, msn messenger, active task list, file browser for remote shares, rdp. basically my world, cant cope without it the days i leave it at home.

hmmmm, i have a host of symptoms, i'd appeceraite if anyone could help me! 1. cant access owa to syncronise with outlook on pda ( works fine with another organisation) 2. cant access main server from non domain machine (pda and mac) i can access shares on my domain laptop from my non domain machines, and i can access owa in ie from anywhere. i'm assuming its a remote access setting, but where it is i dont know!!.

also if you do deciede to go with local machines i'd strongly recommend using more than 256mb ram in an xp machine. Put in an extra ram chip and see what speed the computer will idle at, i pretty much guarantee it'll be more than 256mb.

we lease our machines as part of a service contract and that works very well. we use reflex, although i'm sure other good suppliers exist.
