  1. Windows media player on windows 7 will play quick time file which negates the need to install Quick time, Apple updater, google toolbar and all the krap apple now bundles with it.
  2. I used this software when the primary school moved from single logins per year grou to individual log ons. It does not do any thing scripts can't it is merely help for those who don't script and visual learners like myself
  3. I'm surprised how many people still use dual booting as a method of running two OS's on one PC especially in these days of cheap hard drives. I've been put off trying dual booting after having read many forum posts where users are trying to rescue their trashed MBR's that are the result of setting up and removing dual booting config from a hard disk. In my home system I have used 2 separate hard drives, one with win7 installed and XP on the other HDD, I select which OS I want to boot to by selecting the appropriate HDD in the quick boot menu in the bios, simple.
  4. At the primary schools I work for, to manage the vast amounts of photos, videos and other large files that modern schools create I'm getting new servers with larger hard disks and larger backup systems. The reason I dont compress is both schools print poster sizied images from alot of their pix and a1mb image is unusable for image that size.
  5. BP should compensate the millions of US citizens whose lives have been blighted by their 'cut costs to make bigger profits' business model. Yes the contractors were American but BP chose to use them because they were cheap.

    Which NAS?

I bought a Qnap TS219 for a primary school. Not bad unit and easy to set up. The one I bought from misco was shipped with 1TB hard drive, I had to buy another to use the Qnap's raid facility. Fitting a hard drive is easy using becauses of the Qnap's hot swap drive bays. Its used for back up only, a 60GB backup takes approx 4 hours (not sure if this is good or bad, better then the old tape drive though)
  7. I put the Coomber created CDR in a PC Used isobuster to copy the recorded audio file to the pc. Burnt & finalised the copied audio file using the pc.
  8. My course was based at Newman University College in Birmingham and the course title was ICT & Technical Support. It was a very good course with theoretical and practical modules using Microsoft, Linux and Cisco training materials. The final year had some business modules which was interesting.
  9. This is so ageist, I'm over 25 & when I did my foundation degree (2006-2009) there was not a penny in financial aid that I could claim. When there is help for the youngsters they are too lazy to get off their backsides
  10. You could use Windows Steady State to lock down the laptops
  11. I hope this deputy heads obsession with expensive gadget is at his own expence and not the schools.
  12. I know space is a big deal to most of you techies but you realise that when you compress jpgs you not only mauke them smaller is size but also drastically reduce their quality and make them only useful for geeky things such as websites?
  13. I cant see it myself manufactures want to lock you into using data that is purchaced through themselves
  14. PDFXchange instead of Adobe Reader
  15. I was always tought that the reason copper is not reccomended for connections between buildings is that the difference between each buildings earth pottential voltages can be over 100 volts.
  16. My backup solution for my home pc is a tray device which sits in a 5.25 drive bay and connects to an internal sata data port and sata power. The advantage to this is that you can just slide a sata hard drive in, back up your data & remove the hard drive when finished. With this method there is no faffing around with usb, sata & power cables each time you want to back up. Also there is no extra stuff sitting on my desk and no screwing hard drives in and out of traditional enclosures so backups to multiple hard drives is cheap and easy. 5.25in Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack for 3.5in Hard Drive - StarTech.com
  17. What Web Filtering Software does everyone use? The reason I ask is that the school I work for uses Censornet and that crashes more often than Stevie Wonder driving a dodgem.
  18. If cadburys wanted to remain British they would have remained a private company not a PLC. Cadburys and quality chocolate in the same sentence no way!
  19. about 8% of the 120 asus netbooks our school have been returned to us with various hardware faults. Many more of the netbooks that have been returned to us have suffered misuse liquid damage, keyboard keys removed and other physical damage.
  20. It is so easy to dislike something you don't understand. Libraries are an excellent idea to organise files & folders instead of dumping everything in the default documents folder.
