If you looking at past events, then the only way is to hope that the person for setting up the network in the first place had enabled auditing. In this case, the changes would be logged in the event viewer. If auditing had not been enabled, then now is the time to do so

Hi, Are you still using GPP for your start menus?

I just basically want to tidy up the start menus as we currently use a single redirected menu. I have tried read only access, but the GPP shortcuts do not show and an error is given in event viewer with "Group Policy object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.'"

Hi, I have created a blank share for a test user and then pointed to it through GP for the start menu. I have then applied a number of shortcuts for different programs and then logged onto a computer. Upon logging on, i have noticed that no shortcuts have been mapped. Thinking this was permissions related, i have given the user full control to the share and then tried another logon. This time is a success and the user gets the correct start menu icons. Problem is that the icons are left in the share when the user logs off and follows the user to each computer. How do you deploy your shortcuts using GPP? I basically want a blank start menu apart from the icons i publish through GPP!

I don't know whether your equipment will have the capability but we are just about to start a similar trial and have configured a proxy less connection through our firewall. We are using open DNS for filtering and force the DNS of all devices for their servers. We had to do some tweaking on acls to allow this through then blocked everything else

I think i will take a snapshot in hyper v before we plunge! I'm looking forward to testing the DART integration. Would be great for monitoring builds of remote computers in other schools

Hi, We have the same setup as you but no MiStats. We are looking to add this over summer but this will be carried out by the original installers. Can you not refer back to your original installers or maintenance people?

We run a very similar setup for our primary schools at my school. We have 3 primary schools connected back to our school over a point to point wireless links of 1GB. In all schools, we have a host server that runs hyper V and 4 common virtualised servers. An RODC for logons locally, a file server that utilises DFS, an AV server that uses our server for updates and then pushes locally via policies and a print server, which also uses MDT for image deployment locally. We use the PXE hack to allow all schools to have MDT and WDS running locally. For SCCM, i have only set this up in one school, but we hope to use a folder on their local server as a branch distribution point for deployment.

Are you sure there are task sequences created in MDT 2012

Hi, We have a few printers that appear to follow staff around the school wherever they log on. For staff, we use roaming profiles and have found that removing the profile, resolves the issue. The deployment of printers is done through GPO and we have checked that the deployment is via per computer and not per user. Has anybody got any ideas how to prevent this happening and how to remove it from people that have already got the printer, without wiping all the profiles?

Have a google for sysinternals free tool called disk2vhd. Used it many times and works brilliantly

We have used the WinPE approach before but this can be a pain in the arse with going through the welcome screen and then joining domain etc.

Thanks for the replies so far. Today, i have mapped a drive from the LiteTouch command prompt to the server hosting the deployment share. We have then ran the LiteTouch.wsf from the Scripts folder, hoping that the task sequences could be seen, but they were blank. The WIM for the OS image is just too large to copy to a DVD and i dont want to purchase USB pens etc just to build these machines. Im also reluctant to change the customsettings deployroot as for the rest of the machines, this is correct and working. I just want to run a task sequence that looks for the WIM of a network share??

Hi, We are about to deploy an image to a number of computers in a primary school via MDT 2010. For a small selection of computers, these boot into WinPE extremely slow and sometimes fail. We have researched many different fixes, such as adjusting the TFTP buffer size, but non have been a success. To get round the issue, we have created installation media from the MDT server. As our image is quite large in size, we would like to know whether it is possible to run a task sequence and use the OS image stored on the server. We have tried to create an selection profile that includes the task sequence, but not the OS and hoped it would try to connect to the server. Unfortunately, this has failed. Does any users of MDT know whether we can boot from a CD/DVD into the LiteTouch PE and then run a task sequence that looks at a server for the OS?

Port 53 has been given outbound access in the protocols, and yes we are unable to resolve hostnames. We can however still get to websites using their IP address

Hi, We wish to provide some level of filtering to our guest wireless. At the moment the session ID is operational with a WPA2 key and unfiltered access. The guest access is provided through our Cisco Wism controllers where DHCP is also handled. The DNS for this range is ciurrently set for Googles DNS and our TMG box has a rule which allows the traffic through with no restriction, bypassing our nternal Proxy. For ease of access, i just want the same setup where we do not have to enter a proxy address, but would like some level of filtering to cover my back. For the filtering, im looking at OpenDNS which i use at home for my son. On his laptop and ipod, i have set the DNS manually to OpenDNS servers so that he has a level of filtering on the internet, but i do not have this from my phone and laptop. At the moment, the school line is provided through Virign and the DNS used is Googles DNS. For my test, i have tried entering the OpenDNS address to a laptop on the guest wireless, but as soon as i refresh the adapter settings, the internet access is lost. My thoughts are that there is an issue with the DNS addresses being used, but i cannot understand why the google DNS on the external connection would kill the DNS trying to be used on the laptop as this is the same setup i have at home, except mine works. Any thoughts? I am open to other ways of getting this resolved

To be honest, we have not actually tried that! Will give it a go though If this does work, is there a way of doing this automatically? Majority of the computers using the DFS are located in primary schools and we cannot expect small children to know this

Hi, We currently redirect users to a shared start menu and desktop that runs from our name space. At the moment users have default server for the name space but another server has the replicated folders and listed in the name space. In a test on fail over of the default server, users could still use the shared start menu and desktop, but need to log off and logon again for the redirection to the new server to be applied. We have Windows 7 clients and were just wondering why we have this issue on fail over. Is there a hidden GPO to stop the network redirection dropping immediately upon loss of connection?

You could use MDT to push applications with the image install if you need to but a bit time consuming, so this approach is great if time is not a necessity. For me, time is a necessity so we just update our images with new packages and re-capture ready for deployment. I understand what you are saying with the multiple versions of apps in different schools but the largest image instal I have is 13gb, and that includes all the basics plus full Adobe Master Collection. If you can get away with it, push out some of the apps with GPO or SCCM

I'm not sure a firmware upgrade will resolve the issue. I had one similar last year that was serial connected. It would loose alignment after a couple of days and then would loose all touch capabilities in the bottom left. It may just be the controller on the back of the board that is packing up!

We do as you already suggested, set a different desktop for the users that is redirected and put on the icons they need. You could then use a GPO to increase font or icon size using accessibility features
