  1. Hi - I have to create a questionnaire for pupils on their use of ICT outside school - anyone done this before and have any advice on questions to ask etc? Or even better - anyone got a questionnaire they can give me? Butuz
  2. Not sure really. As far as I understand it our LEA has redirected ringfenced funds from ICT, Welsh Language and Inclusion into Basic Skills & Transition, Revised Curriculum & Assessment, Pupil Support Welfare & Health. Mind you - LEA have just finished a nice new headquaters, and of course we all have to pay for the Welsh Assembly building don't we Butuz
  3. Haha just read the thread anyway - so thats £6.50 a pupil Butuz
  4. I have not read the rest of the thread because it will just make me angry £5k again this year for puchase of equipment. £1.5k for Repairs. Same as last year. Frankly - I don't know why I bother trying to drive the school forward. It's hard enough treading water! Butuz
  5. At the very least put the DC on Gigabit - whats the point of having fast email fi the rest of the network is dog slow? Preferably - get both of them at gigabit - buy another switch and daisy chain it - not ideal but a heck of a lot better than as it stands! Butuz

  14. No need to try and make me look slow, or stupid, or blind! I am quite capable of doing that myself! Then provide one... rather than spouting on about enemy's and super intelligent admins and other assorted wierdness. As you say - at the moment there are no BSF type plans in Wales *phew*. We're concentrating on Rugby at the mo I am not naive - quite the opposite which is why I am spending so much time in the BSF form taking in what is going on over the border even though it does not affect me. So from my point of view is BSF a good or a bad thing? It is clear it is going to be a good thing for some schools, and a bad thing for some schools - but what about for education as a whole? At the moment it looks to be a bad thing overall. Privatisation of our education is never a good thing. It comes across as being costly only because it is forcing schools to bring their ICT bang up to date. I've seen 10% of the budget spent on ICT mentioned - if I had 10% of our budget to spend on ICT we'd have a 1:1 ratio with gold plated laptops and diamond encrusted WAP's all through the school. This financial year I actually had 0.8% of the budget to spend on ICT. BSF seems to be forcing schools to take ICT as seriously as they should be taking it - is this a bad thing? Butuz
  15. The thread is called "Tell us about BSF". It is not called "Tell us about all of the bad things of BSF" It is not called "Paint BSF in a bad light" The thread is very interesting and thought provoking. If we (by we I mean our profession as a whole) come across in articles as very bitter, twisted, resistant to change, and deaf to others point's of view, and only lookig after our own jobs - as you come across - WE are the ones that will end up being painted in a bad light - NOT BSF! Balanced and rational arguments are what the article need's. Plenty of witch there are in this thread. It just needs to be compiled together in a manner that doesnt come across as bitter, twisted etc. Butuz
  16. Hmm 541.22m - not bad! Couldnt submit my score though - I think Russ fiddled it. Butuz
  17. eSafe looks really good. Currently trialling Securus here and we have not had the instability problems you describe - I suspect you have a dud server. Butuz
  18. Sounds to me like either you have a faulty power or reset switch on the case - or the motherboard is shorting out on the underside. Check that all of your motherboard screw down mounting points are in the correct place. Cases now come with a multitude of possible screw points and you have to make sure they are in the correct position for your motherboard or you could get shorts. As for self building workstations and servers - I really wouldnt reccomend it at all, you have low economies of scale, it creates high work load for you, and you have no support should something go wrong. Butuz
  19. Have to admit I never delete workstations from the Managment Console or the PackageControl folder before I do a rebuild. Never had any problems. Suspect there could be something else at play here. If you run a command prompt on a CC3 server and run "HealthCheck.exe" located in the folder "D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\Station Manager" does it give any errors? Andrew

  21. Nick out of interest how did you test the wattage of your various equipment? I would like to do this. Butuz
  22. Users always set priority to high because everyone thinks their little problem is THE most important problem you have. having the technical team set priority's is the standard method as it is part of our job to prioritise jobs. As for the overall problem list - users do not need to see this in my oppinion, they only need to see their own problems - but it would be nice for SMT to be able to see a summary of problems. If your not that impressed with Liberum which someone spent many hours creating - go spend some money and buy a helpdesk. Butuz
  23. What problems are you having? We only have one XE40 but we do not have any problems with it. Butuz
