  1. ^^ abuse of the worst kind It's ok, I can see your the type of guy who will call me butman, not Butuz just to try and inject a little more personal abuse "under the radar". Guess learning soft skills will probably not change the inherant weakness in your peronality complex Butuz
  2. I emailed them asking if we could get a certificate and they said no we would have to pay? Our LEA uses JANET for sure Butuz
  3. Fasthosts are RRRRRRRRubbish with a capital R. Used to have a reseller account years ago with them, but had to drop them after they repeatedly emailed the account admin password to me in clear text despite me never even requesting it. Useless. And if they have had further security breaches since then, it doesnt suprise me. I think someone need to pop in and actualy explain to them what security means? Butuz
  4. Funny how every thread that happens to descend into name calling and personal abuse tends to feature many posts from a certain Mr.torledo. Your network admin skills appear to be top notch but maybe you should spend some time and engage some of your vast brainpower learning some soft skills? Butuz
  5. Crumbs - if your budget runs to ripoff underperforming Bose stuff then you could a probably afford to get a real PA system in there, I reccomend HK Audio - fantastic qualty. Butuz
  6. Seriously John - it's not a good idea start bringing your own equipment in to school, the more you "help" the school by buying things at home, the more they grow to rely on the fact that you will always bail them out. Backup's are so important that whatever budget you think you have, you should be able to negotiate money from SMT/SLT. If you struggle, remind the head that should the server fail and the pupils lose all their GCSE coursework for example, they will be held legally responsible.... usually wakes them up a bit. Andrew
  7. Wow! £40k on a SAN! I want to work in your school! Butuz
  8. Backing up 1000 small files that total 1gb will always take much much longer than backing up one big 1gb file. Individual emails are lots of small files so this is why your email backup is taking up a large proportion of your time. One option would be to actualy back up your emails into a backup file (backup to disk) which will give you one large file that can be backed up to tape easily and quickly. Butuz
  9.  BOFH!!!!
  10. Beeping's kinda good - tells you when its having trouble.... Butuz
  11. Haha an RM engineer once spilt a whole cup of coffee on the server he was installing! Not sure exactly what part of the comissioning routine that was - but it must have been an important part because i remember him getting quite exited! I do it to all servers and workstations when I commission them now Andrew
  12. Oh and if the worst comes to the worst - it is possible to create a GPO, attatch an MSI to it, and apply this to RM CC3 workstations. When the workstations boot, the application will be installed before even RM Application Agent fires up! Dont ask me exacly how to do this, I cant remember, but I was shown it by RM and it does work Maybe a search on technet will yeild results. Butuz
  13. Ok the [Package] section looks good - the [General] section should not be needed - try taking those lines out and see if it helps? One thing to bear in mind is that because you have a version number specified the whole package must be in a folder with the same version number. Eg: Q:\Applications\Longman Planning tool\V1.0.0.0\EverythingGoesHere Butuz
  14. Kyle - do these RM workstations have LAN built on to the motherboard (i.e the lan port is next to the USB and printer ports) or do they have PCI LAN cards? Butuz
  15. hmmz Firstly, have you updated the package list in the managment console by right clicking on "main Site" and clicking "Update package list"? You need to do this every time you add a package to the RMPackages folder on the server. Couple of other things it could be are: 1) The package name may not be unique - are you sure there are no other packages with the same name? 2) The package name could contain invalid characters like # $ £ & etc 3) Try running Healthcheck.exe on the server in D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\Station Manager as this can sometimes fix weird package problems. If it's neither of those then I am stumped too! Maybe you could send me the package ini file? Butuz
  16. What spec RM boxes are they? Usually there are two bios setting that need to be changed, the first is enable boot from network / pxe boot which you have done, the second is in the list of boot priorities you need to change this from Floppy/HDD0/CDROM etc to Network. Have you done both of those? Butuz
  17. Does it have a PackageName.ini file in the Package Folder? If it doesnt - the Management Console will not pick the package up. Butuz
  18. Client Connect effectiveley turns a Windows 2003 Terminal Server into an RM Managed Workstation - so that when users connect to the terminal server from a thin client, or Remote Desktop etc they actually "get" a CC3 Workstation to all intents and purposes. Client Connect is only useful if you have an RM CC3 network - it is not a standalone product. It gives you a way of bringing terminal server to your network whilst keeping your schools RM CC3 interface. To be honest, if you all have CC3 networks I wouldnt bother going with Client Connect now. The functionality of Client Connect is built in to RMCC4 which is just round the corner now, so you may as well just wait a bit, and upgrade to CC4 and then you will inherit managed RM terminal server functionality. Thats my 2p. Andrew
  19. I am getting this error on one workstation and its doing my nut in! Just tried your suggestions michael_mc and no luck Butuz
  20. Yeh - Microsoft in their infinate stupidity took the loop option out of Powerpoint Viewer 2003 and above - so now you can not loop the list. I have a list of about 8 presentations and I did as above, copied and pasted the 8 again and again and again till you have a list of 50+ presentations should last all day then! Butuz
  21. Have you added the Motherboard, Graphics, Sound and Network Drivers to the Workstation Build Manager? Trying to build a workstation without the correct drivers installed can cause random build problems. Andrew
  22. Jesus Sysman your signature is nearly 2mb!!!! Thats a bit over the top mate!!! Butuz
  23. Yeh got several Kyocera FS-C5015N and FS-C5030N here and they are very good printers, toners are cheaper and bigger than the equivalent HP too, and the printers thermselves are more compact. Andrew
  24. Nope - got serveral of these and they've never played up. Mind you - I've never updated the drivers - if it aint broke don't try and fix it! Andrew
  25. You cant move an array from one type of raid card to another, but you should be able to if you use the same raid cards in both servers - well I've never seen it done anyway - wouldnt mind being corrected though? Butuz
