  1. I would have been interested to see the job discription for this post too. Is it lurking around somewhere? Cheers Butuz
  2. Best thing to do is to create a new "program set" for each subject - I have program sets called: Students - Subjectname Staff - Subjectname for all the subjects. Butuz

  5. Tut tut (only kidding!) Butuz
  6. Channel 4 - C4+1 Was only launched recently - unfortunatly seems to use a lot of upscaled contect because more often than not the quality just isn't quite there. Bit like BBC HD. I doo miss the SKY HD channels - the footy, and even ultra-old films like Star Wars A New Hope just looked great. Unfortunatly it just wan't worth £60 odd a month. Hopefully in a year or two I can resubscribe when there is more content. Butuz
  7. IE6 Weakness: Butuz
  8. You can plug it in and it will work! If you take a Sky+ HD box, plug it onto a dish - you will get normal freeview channels - Plus 3 HD channels (BBC, Channel4 and Luxe). You won't be able to record or pause or rewind etc - you need a sky subscription for that. But you can watch normal channels plus the three HD channels above. Works a treat - heroes is in HD on BBC, and there are always HD films on the C4 channel. It's all good! Though a Sky+HD box is a bit overkill - possdibly the most expensive and powerful freeview box on earth?!! Butuz
  9. You think your dead now - wait till she finds out about the 50" 1080P LCD your gonna buy tomorrow :D Butuz
  10. Maybe you should look into getting it then Grommit? It would suit your mental age! Gotta admit - I think your gonna hold the "Edugeek Total and Utter Idiocy Statement" award for some time to come with that one!!! Congratulations!! Butuz
  11. The postie brought my M70 yesterday. A minute after it was unpacked I was logging into the system on it. What a fantastic bit of kit! The abolition of a traditional operating system on flash storage in favour of a basic hard coded "bios" type operating system is inspired! I thought our HP Linux/Windows CE thin clients were easy to set up - but the M70 takes the biscuit! The fact that they include a VESA monitor mount is brilliant too - having these tidily mounted to the back of a TFT with all the cables cable tied up nice is super slick. Overall - a big thumbs up. They are cheaper than other thin client units, in theory they should be more reliable as there is even less to go wrong. I'll give it 9/10 as there is one area where they could improve on - having a headphone socket in order to pass sound back to the user would be a bonus. Will take some photos now for you lot. Butuz
  12. Very nice! Out of interest what did you use to create your 2d room plans? Cheers Butuz

  17. Ideally you should run a small UPS in every cabinet for your switches - to protect them from surges and sags, and also to give you 10 mins or so of network uptime even if the power fails. Butuz
  18. .......Is key to delivering a quality ICT Service over the next 10 years of the School's life. It's all very well being proud of a 1:2 ratio - but can you Can you maintain them all? Can you replace all 500 pc's in 3 years time? That's why I am "going back to the 80's" - and I am not ashamed of rolling out Dumb terminals at all!! Use what fit's best - for us and clearly for Mr.Grumbledook Thin Clients work well in large ICT suites - for us Thin Clients are turning an unsustainable number of Workstations, into a sustainable number of "clients". 19. Fantastic that is exactly what I need! Butuz

  21. I have a meeting with the LEA in a couple of weeks and they are dragging their feet really badly with regard to deciding on a VLE. I am hoping to install Sharepoint and Sharepoint Learning Kit to have a go at setting up a VLE for my school - but what I really need at the moment is to be able to show the LEA a fully fledged VLE that is already working and being used? Would anyone be kind enough to create me a user on their system so I can log in and show what Sharepoint etc can do? I realise this may not be possible due to data protection issues etc - even just some screenshots of the system would be greatly appreciated - at least I can do a little powerpoint to show the others. I am interested in Moodle / Sharepoint / RM Kaleidos etc. Thanks to anyone who is able to find the time to help! Andrew
  22. Sorry I forgets the buttons Butuz
  23. Why not have the majority of the workstations get the shared resources from a network drive - but the threee laptops can be updated at regular intervals using a batch file or something? Butuz
