We have carpets on the floor. We have had these projectors since August and have had to replace four already!! One room had to have it's projector replaced twice. I saw the amounf of dust it had in it's filters after only a couple of weeks. Lots. If I go by that then we should be going around our 15 classes every week cleaning the filters. It's just not practical the amount of times these have to be cleaned. We have NEC projectors which have been in classes for two years now and not one has had to be replaced. We are just looking at replacements at the minute as a solution.

Hi guys, We are having lots of problems with our Sanyo XE40s. Mostly down to heating. Are there any alternative projectors out there that will fit "the arm" without having to do any major soldering or hard labour?!

The best and not the easiest way is to look at the actual school websites, there is a nominal list here: http://members.cois.org/directory/isd_accred.aspx It's impossible to sign up with any IS teaching websites like http://www.search-associates.com as they require teaching certs. I was fortunate my fiance wanted to move to and is a certified teacher so I got to go with her to a Search Job Fair in Bangkok and we nabbed these jobs. It's not that there isn't jobs for people in our line of work in the IS circle it's just not that easy to get into the hunt for them as IS directors tend not to post tech jobs on most job sites. they will though post i.t.director/integrationalists/coordinaator jobs there not knowing that most people qualified for those aren't allowed to join anyway! Agh! As I said it helps to have a qualified teacher as a spouse! The role of I.T. is pretty weird in International Schools. Most Asian countries hire local hands but most schools want experienced english native speaking people for i.t. manager/co-ordinator/integrationalists. As I've said though it's a case of getting your foot in the door, looking at the school's own websites and checking back once in a while to see if there are job openings. I spent quite some time on the cois website just checking the schools and imagining would it would be like to live in Hawaii or someplace! Any more q's feel free.

Working in an International School in the I.T. department here in Germany. I look after hardware/resources in the ES part of our school. I also do the Yearbook/website/intranet and Moodle. And I also teach 6th Grade. Lot of things going on! I think the International School circuit is a really well hidden secret and fantastic once you get into it. Excellent if you wanna leave your country and start working around the world. Which I did! I will because of my experience here be starting work in Hong Kong as ES I.T. Co-ordinator/teacher in a private school come next August. Any questions about getting into the International School scene, fire away.

A Dumb And Dumber poster!

Is anybody using Wikispaces for student e-portfolios? It's problem after problem with them. First it wouldn't run videos embedded in IE7. So we installed Firefox to overcome that. Then, different video formats would not embed resulting in us converting from avi to mpg and now finally to wmv which "seems" to work. Latest catastrophe is now when all the kids in the class are uploading either pics or vids the entire site slows to a crawl, often freezing the browser. Anybody with other tales of woe (or success?). Sounds like powerpoint is the way to go next time...

We're using Google Docs (spreadsheet). We just sent out invites to the teachers so they can edit it. Working well.

Sounds very similar to my experiences with Intellidesks.... Does anybody have these? they are absolutely awful and are a technicians nightmare.

Yeah I came across the same thing but basically all they need to use are the fonts so I've just got everyone to open up Word as per normal and work away. No complaints about anything awry. It's just when they go to the Nelson Thornes icon will it pop up the warning about the Macros. I think that just the splash page for the program is the reason for the macro warning..or?

Granada Learning Soundstart Software. Never got it to work properly, if it wasn't Java Applet errors it was not being able to install it at all. Very frustrating software.
