I regularly listen to Radio1 live on HP thin clients and the sound seems to work OK apart from a very occasional slight stutter. It was using 4% CPU when I was listening. Never tried concurrent users though. Andrew

I was only there for a day and a half and it was a bit overwhelming to try and make it round the show in that time - but I did get to the stand to say a quick hello on the Saturday. Glad we were represented! Butuz

Will you be giving away any Dell Poweredge 900's??? I'd particularly like the Quad Six Core 2.6Ghz with 64GB RAM. I'll supply my own hard drives it that helps (see you Friday at 3pm!) Butuz

Either the server is not set to boot from the RAID controller, or the server is trying to boot from the USB stick with the raid drivers on! First make sure the USB mem stick is unplugged. Of that doesnt work go into the BIOS on the server and make sure the Drive boot order is set to 1 CDROM/DVD 2 RAID CONTROLLER Butuz

I don't think you need to spend big money on your SAN switch. As long as its gigabit, and managed so that multiple ports can be trunked if need be - then it should be fine. Butuz

Personally I think it's the system to blame rather than the people. Although I have never been unemployed myself, I have seen first hand how actually you can be better off not having a job at all! As long as this is the case, and the system is so floored - why would people want to try and get jobs that will actually make them considerably worse off??? NO idea how to fix it mind.. Butuz

What Specification is the NAS server? Butuz

Hi Are you up to date with your Hardware Support Packs? You should be up to HSP34? From what I can see - the Expert 3040 series is so new it has not yet had the correct drivers included in a CC3 Hardware Support Pack. This means the workstation probably can't find the windows drivers for the network card. You could do two things. Either: 1) Manually ad the network card driver to the CC3 network. Go to RM Workstation Build Manager, go to Drivers, go to Windows XP, go to Network and add the driver. 2) Re-install Windows XP from the RM restore CD, manually install all the drivers for network, motherboard, sound, video, then Smartclient the workstation onto CC3. Hope that helps. Butuz

Yes please It would be really good to get some insight. We've seen an "SLT" blog which was a really interesting read, so an ICT Technical blog will be invaluable! Butuz

I might use a Plexus for home but I wouldn't trust one on any of my work servers! Butuz

I am sure I remember reading about some kind of incompatibility issue between some HP thin clients and Win2k8 server. Possible updating the BIOS on the thin clients will fix this? Butuz

I looked into this a while ago and the cheap PCI NIC's didnt support PXE. You had to buy a decent one for that. Butuz

Yep even Sharepoint Services 3 (the free one) can do this as standard - we've just started using it for staff anf pupil surveys - you can export yout results to Excel file at the click of the mouse if you want to set up some advanced graphing or reporting.

Very interesting article. It's staggering the mount of money actually being spent on ICT under BSF. I would expect the "ICT Service" as a whole to vastly improve in the same way that I would be able to vastly improve the service here if I was given these crazy sums of money. Somehow though I doubt it will quite be the case. Vast amounts of money will be spent but I have a feeling that when it comes to the (ICT) classroom, and actual exam results, vast improvements will be few and far between. We'll see. Being here in Wales, sometimes I am insanely jealous of the amount if capital investment your getting over there, but then sometimes I am actually glad to be so far behind as a country and able to watch and wait over the next 5 years and see if it actually works...

Guess that means quite a lot of people are in for the sack soon! Butuz

Wow some really imaginative and long winded ways here! If you go into Services and stop the "Net Logon" service on all domain controllers it will stop anyone logging on. (though it won't kick anyone off that is already logged on) Butuz
