Sure, the 850 Pro is the fastest and (likely) most reliable SSD around, due to the V-NAND. But unless you know you need the fastest you can get, or money is no object, an 840 EVO is going to be more than fast enough. Personally I'd save the £120 if I was buying now. If you're not in a rush, though, the 850 EVO should be popping up sometime soon, and when it does it'll either a) be a better balance for you b) result in a fire sale on the 840 EVO.

Wait, another thought - you're using security group filtering, right, to target only this student? Have you added Domain Computers to the security filtering as well? Else the PC can't read the GPO to process it. Might be easier to create a sub-OU in the relevant OU, shunt this student down into there and tie the GPO to that new OU without any filtering. Bit messier AD wise, but faster client processing, FWIW.

Have you tried enforcing this one? As a complete cop-out-and-workaround, you could also use a startup script to set the proxy instead, if it's the particular setting that's being a pain. What does the Group Policy Modelling Wizard say? Or GPRESULT?

The only time I've seen this was when using Enforced on group policies - where normally a more specific GPO takes precedence over a more general GPO (e.g. 2012 OU GPO wins out over Student GPO), this is reversed when using Enforced. So if your normal proxy GPO is Enforced at a general level, your new Enforced GPO has to be at a more general level in order to take precedence. It's like the rules processing bounces back up the tree. Normal GPOs at root are applied first, so overwritten by more specific downtree GPOs as they're processed next, then the system works back up the tree checking for Enforced GPOs, reaching those general level Enforced GPOs last and thus resulting in their settings being applied. If that makes sense.

I'm hoping against hope that Motorola release their Verizon (US) exclusive DROID Turbo in the UK, as it looks the better phone than the Nexus 6 - 5.2" screen (1440p), 2.7GHz quad core + Adreno 420, 21MP camera and a claimed 48 hours of battery. Motorola stay close to stock Android as well, and keep up with updates. Probably won't be cheap, mind...

I've used EasyPHP at home with some success but as @3s-gtech says, not sure how well it'd work on a limited domain account - you'd need to open up C: drive access at least, I suspect. If you can set up a Server 2012 VM, getting PHP & MySQL set up only takes an afternoon.

My missus just got the Lumia 930, £40 upfront, £23pm from o2 (other deals may be available) and it is a properly lovely piece of kit. Quality build, gorgeous screen... and if you get it before the end of the year, you can claim a free wireless kit* including bluetooth speaker & Qi charging plate. The 930 comes with a wireless charger anyway, but the free plate is better, and includes a battery so you can charge your charger and get an extra boost of juice wherever you are. Windows Phone itself is a nice little OS; the only limit is the range of apps, so it's your shout as to how many weird and wonderful apps you use. I like to tweak, so I'm sticking with Android, but the 930 is a much nicer device than anything available with the little green robot. *The SSL cert will whinge, but it is a genuine site. You can follow the link from Nokia's site if you want to be certain. EDIT: and in the time I was writing that you've posted again about "no more than £16", so maybe not the 930. General impressions should still carry over, though: the 925 will be a beautifully engineered lump of electronics, and WP8 is a joy to use. Very smooth/slick/intuitive, and not at all what you'd expect from the name "Windows".

Eh, doesn't look like much in that list - previewing update ADRs would be useful, but my ADR only deploys to a small number of test machines anyway, so I have plenty of time to review & tweak anything I don't like. I don't think the client update was automatic - there's a deployment for SP1 CU3 x64/x86 in my monitoring pane, and I seem to remember having to jump through a couple of hoops to get that going - so judging by the list and recollections of hassle, don't reckon I'll worry myself too much about it. SCCM has become too important to risk bricking!

My SCCM2012 install is on SP1 CU3 - version 5.00.7804.1400 - which is a few versions back now. Will I get any benefit from moving to R2 and dealing with all the faff of updating clients? We don't image with SCCM2012 (we use FOG for that) so it's only used for software deployment, updates & SCEP. If there's no improvements in stability, no new features etc. I'll not bother, but I can't find much on what was added so thought I'd ask. On a related note, can anyone remember the procedure for pushing out client updates, as I've only done it the once before and that was ages ago. I can only remember it being a slightly odd method unlike anything else.

If nothing else, updates would decide it for me. The Nexus would not only get them sooner, but for longer - my Nexus 4 is still officially supported, for example. I believe the only reason the Galaxy Nexus is unsupported now is the lack of driver support now that TI have withdrawn from the SoC market. Given how much of a target Android is, security updates isn't a minor consideration. (Also TouchWiz slows everything down horribly.)

It's not a particularly adult representation of it, mind - certainly nothing like in Bioware games - and is all approached in that slightly awkward, slightly amused British way, and the cartoony graphics certainly stop it being anything too, er, interesting. FWIW, you can get married and have children as part of a committed relationship as well. Personally, I don't think it'd stop me letting my kids play - I think it's the kind of thing that they would move past without question, and it's not too in your face from what I recall - but it is, of course, a decision that needs to be made on a case by case basis.

360? Get Fable 2. Dirt cheap, you can't actually lose (if you die you just respawn immediately, a bit more grizzled and scarred looking), cartoony in terms of the violence without actually being a cartoon, can completely customise your character, can't get lost because you just have to follow the glowing line but there's loads to find if you do wander off the beaten path, hilariously voiced ("Now then chicken chaser!"), you can make rude gestures and farting sounds at people for fun, and it's well stuffed with content to keep them happy for ages. You even have a pet dog in game. It's basically the perfect game for you here, I reckon (not played Fable 3, imagine it's similarly well suited. Did Fable Anniversary come out on 360 or was that XB1 only?)E EDIT: Fable Anniversary did indeed come out on 360. Although at £16 it's actually the priciest option, going by Amazon anyway - Fable 2 is only £4.50 (get it get it get it) and Fable 3 is £7.85. DOUBLE EDIT: another good option, not quite as kiddy as Fable but more MMO styled (as it was originally meant to be an MMO before they scaled back), is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. £20 on 360 but cheaper on PC. From what I played of the demo it was bloodless and very much in the vein of WoW.

That's where I got it too was a cracking deal that one. The ME choice that made me stop to think, and had me pondering reloads to choose the other way, was Mordin's loyalty quest in ME2, and what do do about the Krogan genophage. No good choice there, I don't think. That ME3 choice you mention: it's a good job I'm a completionist wrt missions in games, as it meant I had enough war readiness & prior good decisions to let me take the "everyone is friends now" option. I watched some of the other outcomes on YouTube, though, and watching Tali throw herself off that cliff was traumatic, even when it didn't really happen

Aye - 7u67 would uninstall, then 8 wouldn't install automatically. It worked if I ran the command manually from a command prompt. Hell, it worked if I visited a machine and manually clicked retry in Software Center. But it wouldn't work automatically. So I've copped out and pushed 7u72 out for now, and I'll revisit 8 next time out. It may well be the /qb as mentioned, or the NOSTARTMENU flag (that I didn't really need anyway, redirected Start Menu), or the new INSTALL_SILENT - I'll let you lot work it out for me

Time for another necro. Yes, I will do this every time I play a game with a story I liked. Just finished Spec Ops: The Line and, well... I'm not sure I'd say I enjoyed it, but I don't think the game wanted me to. The game itself is solid and engaging, but I've never had a game make me feel so guilty and rotten for actions I've taken. It's the story CoD wishes it had, and achieves what MW2 tried and failed to do with No Russian. It quite blatantly takes its inspiration from Heart of Darkness, but doesn't just retread Apocalypse Now; it goes in its own direction. First game in a long time that's had me playing till midnight because the story was pulling me along. It only takes about 6 hours, so it fits in well around Grown Up Life. Well worth a punt when it pops up cheap in the Steam Christmas sale.

I have a soft spot for Notepad++. All the joy* of hand-coding in plain text, but with such fantastic syntax highlighting, and no end of useful features. And tabs! Tabs make everything better. *no, srsly. But I only really code in HTML/CSS/PHP so there's definite advantages in hand code, as opposed to "whatever rubbish Dreamweaver spews out", especially when it comes to troubleshooting CSS.
