Might look at doing something like that, I think it looks better with the Students first name in there. Haven't added a new Student since the initial attribute change but if any issues i'll look at implementing the extendedattribute idea. Thanks
-
You're indeed right, again! Looked at the test sync and the first couple returned were student accounts so thought they were all changing... but just a couple anomalies. Staff all changed, marvellous! thanks again.
-
@ticker Done a test sync, looks like thats going to work. Just it's going to change the students too, which I guess I would prefer them to be full first & second name, however, I don't think you can separate them without have two xml configs? I'm assuming you did the same for the Students also? I don't think it's really a problem I suppose, making problems for myself!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I see! Yes it appears in there. Was expecting it to appear in Groups! Cheers again @ticker

Tried searching about, and can't seem to find a solution apart from buying Salamander (Which I'm trying to get approved for this and SIMS etc) In the meantime, could I pick somebody's google mind. We're using Classroom and the teachers at the moment are getting students to join via the class code. Which is working fine. However, I'd like them to be able to go to Invite students, Groups and select Year 12 etc I've got GADs creating a group from an AD group I've made and it's appearing in the Admin console but it won't show in Classroom as an option. The permissions on the group in the Admin console are for Team, if I try change the permission and hit save it looks like it saved but reloading the page the settings haven't changed. Or have I got the process wrong completely, should I be making mailing lists instead? Huge thanks for any pointers!

Perfect! Not sure how I missed that, was so obvious my brain must have blanked that option out! Thanks Still need to populate the initial field but should be able to sort that out easily enough. Thanks!

Afternoon, We've got GADs synchronising all the staff and students and all is well, however, the teachers account all display their Full names so when sharing/emailing with the Students their full names are displayed. Which for a number of staff they find annoying, which I can understand, is there an easy way to change the givenname attribute to only show the 1st character of their first name? Some clever trim function (here's hoping!)? I know I can blank it, so will ultimately do that show it'll just show surname but it would like tidier. Just seeing if there's something I can do with ADModify but wanted to avoid altering the AD if possible, any ideas? Cheers

Out of interest, anybody got any good tips of showing a calendar on Xibo? We've got a sports hall & astro booking system (EzFacility) and you can export the bookings to a calendar so I thought that would be useful to put on the screen so parents/clubs etc could see what's on when. The standard displays for both Google or Outlook look a bit clunky... anybody of of a good skin or a system to display the information so it's easier to read?

I was expecting a twist ending with Scooby & the Gang... They'd park the Mystery Machine in the corner of the warehouse... -
Yeah we use remote desktop for our our attendance officer - She wants SIMS in 1024x768 resolution, but to run certain tasks needs higher resolution to fit in all the buttons(!) So have to use remote desktop to launch it with a different resolution so she can run both at the same time.

Wooo Happy Birthday! This site is a godsend, so huge thanks to all to run it and contribute!

We're in the same boat, so subscribed to this thread interested to see what others have to say also!

Our dept has the R3000 and to be fair it is an outstanding bit of kit for us. Quality is top notch, but it is an expensive thing to run about £5 a page so the Photography teacher says. (He wasn't happy when somebody kept sending Sims registers to it!) He's had it a couple years now, and apart from the odd Apple Driver issues it's been perfect I've not had to touch it.

I wish I used my wife's team, she's trounced me this year in our league battle with over 2000 points! Grr

bibblio.org - Searches being blocked
gumbygaz replied to gumbygaz's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Ahh nice site that for checking the nameservers. Cheers, although even with all those permitted it's sadly still blocked. I've emailed them to ask if they can help - stumped! Thanks though -
Afternoon, Struggling to get bibblio.org to work on our internet. We use RM Safetynet as our main filtering - I've unblocked *bibblio.org* and the site loads, but doing a search just loads the header with Searching and nothing else happens. Clicking on the Topics on the main page, loads the pages with videos fine just seems to be the search function that we can't use. Using the staff proxy bypass, search works and it shows all the videos etc, I've gone through the source etc and tried to unblock some other domains but with no success... Anybody know of a way I can see what is getting blocked by the RM filters? Cheers

Hi, We used to have Frog doing all our Google Apps sync, so never looked into GADS until now since the APIs expired and we'd like students to start using their accounts to access their Google Drive which they couldn't before with Frog SSO setup anyway. So I was just wondering, can I setup GADs to sync with the existing Google accounts that Frog created? Anybody done this already that could throw me a couple pointers? Thanks
-
I obviously don't spend enough with Stone, never got an invite! Although it's probably saved the course from a few large divots!

Thanks for the tips, couple options. I await the LEA's ideas but was more worried if it was something other schools were doing and we're not but sounds like most already doing the DHCP block option after the event. Have Ruckus for the Wireless and will be doing a captive portal on there for Students. I've suggested the best option would be allow them to use the Wifi (Much like @cpjitservices suggests) so we'd have more control on what devices are on the Network and easily VLanned from the rest of the network. However, FN-GM is right, SLT are the issue with that and Network ports still vulnerable. Any spare ports are unpatched, so perhaps just need to keep better eye on the DHCP logs and get SLT to come down hard on Students abusing it. Thanks for the advice though!

Yeah we've got HP Procurves, they're managed by the LEA but that sounds exactly what we'd want to implement. I'll fire off an email to them and ask about it. Thanks
-
We're having issues where 6th form students are bringing in laptops as they're not currently aren't allowed on the Wifi, so they're unplugging PCs and plugging directly into the network and because we've recently added wpad file plugging in gives them internet access.. What do other do to prevent this sort of access. Do others set the DHCP to only issue to registered MAC address table? Any guidance would be great! Thanks Gareth
