  1. Not sure if i should be talking about this but... We are due to move over at the beginning of the new year, i've been running a small trial and the throughput and reliability is far far better.
  2. Good post and I'll agree to stop posting on the topic. I know it's self centered, but all I care about are my schools and I know there are changes afoot to rectify the few issues we've received
  3. You assume alot. It's not frequently for us. "depending....." another wishy washy comment Do you not think teachers should be able to think on their feet or are we going down this path of teachers being robots. They rely on far more than just an Internet connection. Again, shows you haven't a clue about the situation. Our Sip trunks bypass the filtering so are not affected Other than comments on an Internet forum, how on earth do you know about the service they offer if you don't use them? If you were a customer of theirs your comments would carry far more weight, but you are not and comes across like you have an alternative motive. If you are concerned about public money i would look at IT support suppliers who are charging primary schools upwards of £350 a day.
  4. Or they have it setup to the suppliers recommendations and yet there are still issues which would be a supplier fault. eh? We all know there are known problems as do SB and synaesthesia, doesn't mean he can't defend them. I, as many others on here just don't understand your position on consistently arguing that SB are rubbish when you only see a small portion of the story on here and aren't privy to the conversations going on in the background.
  5. What's interesting about that? They have shared clusters for filtering, if if a certain cluster is having an issue and you are not on it then you are fine. This clearly indicates the bottleneck is the filtering and SB have already done work on fixing the issues.
  6. Unfortunately, that will only measure a certain amount, i'd like to measure all usage.
  7. It would just be the sensors to measure usage in a single school and we would replicate it in others. I would imagine all schools are 3 phase. I'm currently sat in a school that was opened last last year, just visited the plant room and electricity feed is all enclosed so i'm sure i can get away with using this technology to mearsure - will investigate in other schools. Thanks for your reply
  8. Just wondering, does anyone monitor their energy usage? I've been looking into openenergymonitor.com at the possibility of installing a device to monitor the amount of electricity we consume, the hope is to raise awareness of how much electricity the schools use and hope to hold a trust wide energy saving week to further raise awareness and hope to save the usage by x%. It's not just about saving pennies, but saving the planet.... i blame watching Blue Planet 2. Does anyone actively monitor their usage and if so what hardware/software do you use? Also any examples of how it's helped your school?
  9. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I didn't set this up with catch up with the tech who did.
  10. Do we have a standard set of questions that will be asked of these suppliers yet?
  11. if it makes you feel better i installed the old Unifi (non pro n's) AP's about 5 years ago and they are still going strong!
  12. SB will certainly be able to help, we haven't done much other than having all 12 of our primaries on the same VDOM. I'll be looking at other options in the next year as we migrate to a more joined up approach.

    Video Camera

We've just been given some vouchers for either Argos or John Lewis, we wouuld like to purchase a video camera with the following features; - Decent Optical Zoom - Optical Image Stabiliser - Ability to plug into a laptop and live stream to YouTube, we use Open Broadcaster Software so would need to appear as a source to the laptop - Budget of no more than £500ish - We have an Acer all in one PC with a HDMI in I'm pretty useless when it comes to cameras etc so any advice on makes/models would really be appreciated.
  14. it's worth noting that Milestone is free for up to 8 cameras.
  15. I'm at a school that's having issues with their wifi, in certain areas the speed drops off to the point of 1 to 2MBps upload/download (the school are on a 100 meg connection). I've not really used the Meru kit so i'm struggling to find out what the issue it. I've put a Unifi AP in place as a test and it's getting 85Mbps up/down. There are 21 AP832e APs with a MC1550 controller, the APs are on image version 8.0-6-0 . Can anyone give me any tips on what to look at, we have pretty much ruled out the network and 98% sure it's the wireless setup.
  16. Unifi in all our primaries, for the price it was a no brainer. We have the original version still going strong in one of our schools
  17. i use xprotect at home, they have a free version available with up to 8 cameras. mobile apps are really good too.
  18. I've noticed today that when I hover over a internal user that sent me an email and click on the down arrow there's an area that says "Organisation" and that it didn't find an organization chart. Does anyone know where this information is stored or entered as I'd like to start updating it?
  19. That doesn't say anything else than what I've just said? That the competition tribunal ruled against Ofcom. Is there any other info available?
  20. i'm googling and i can't see anything other than they were holding off on it due to the court decision ruling against ofcom?
  21. Great news....if anything like this were available in our schools. I think we should start a petition to get the government (Ofcom) to force suppliers such as BT, Virgin etc to make these services available to all educational establishments.
  22. I think there's a waiting list from requesting it and it being migrated. Are you sure you have been migrated? Having said that, I doubt there will be much difference between Dublin and here.
  23. Running FreePBX here. takes a couple of days to figure it all out but it's pretty simple. Paid support is available if you need it.
  24. Has any found any resources on data mapping for schools?
