Do these take standard mini atx motherboards? Is it just the base units or have you got keyboards / mice etc?

Have you tried the filtering built into the BT Business Broadband routers? I've found it to be pretty good, you can set a default filtering level for any new pc, and can have 2 groups for different levels of filtering (per pc only, not per user) Steve

We always use PRM Green Technologies - you need to have 30 items for a free collection, but on the plus side we normally get a free mug! We always get a data destruction certificate as well as the waste transfer one. Steve

We have a 2 hour Data rated fire safe on the other side of the building, which is in a cupboard on its own. All backups are stored in here, none go off site. Steve

I've used Ruckus managed, Netgear managed and Netgear unmanged solutions in schools. I wouldnt hesitate to deploy another Ruckus solution - even the teachers have commented on how reliable the wireless is now - it quite simply does not fail anymore (well unless someone turns the wireless off on a laptop!). We've had it in for over a year. I'm not saying the other solutions you have proposed wont be as good, I can only comment from my own experience. Steve

I don't think 4000 lumens will be bright enough for a large display over that distance. It's amazing just how much brighness you loose by covering the extra distance. We installed a projector over a 12m throw using a lens, it is 6000 lumens, and only just bright enough to see clearly. The hall is quite light, but not excessively so. Steve

Yesterday I managed to buy 16 2tb hard disks for £82 each :-) One of my team is currently removing them from their usb housings! Steve

Has anyone noticed that external hard drives still seem quite cheap? - Ebuyer cheapest 2tb internal is around £150, cheapest external is around £75! - Does anyone know an external desktop drive that uses a standard SATA disk inside? - I need to buy around 20 2tb drives soon, so will strip them out of external cases if necessary! I've just set up a subscription to mymaths.co.uk, and the teachers seem to really rate it. No real experience of it myself, they do offer 30 day trials if you want to give it a go though. Steve

We get the same problem, also didn't work when I ran it through a transparent proxy and then onto our network, so I assume its some sort of filtering issue, or non standard port it is connecting over. Steve

I'm a big fan of Netgear kit, and now nearly always use their wired kit. I have also deployed 2 different managed wireless netgear systems, one 11g and one N. I have also depoloyed ruckus to 2 different schools. My advice is find the £3000 from somewhere! Netgear wireless is great in a fairly small, and unmanaged enviroment. As soon as you move to their managed kit ruckus is in a different league. In my 2 ruckus schools I havent touched the kit in over a year, and havent had a single issue caused by the wireless - with over 120 wireless clients in one of the schools. Steve

What model laptop trolley's do you have? I know the ones we buy offer a 'soft start' (or some similar name) charging option to prevent this happening. Steve

Last lot of 0.5m ones we got were £0.35 each. Not significantly more for longer ones. Steve

Are you sure the server is not just underspecced / over used? How many people do you have accessing it, what type of drives are they in the server? Before I put a new server in at one of my schools it would look exactly like this when they tried to do video editing in the IT suite off of the network drives. Steve

I'd have a look at Adito - will let you have a website that they log in to which then runs a java app to create an ssl connection and run rdp over this to connect to your terminal server. Steve

Do you definately want netbooks? We started buying a lot of netbooks a couple of years ago, because of thier size, and the significant savings over a laptop. Now it seems there isn't anywhere near as much of a price difference - we're currently getting core i3 laptops with a 3 year warranty for £270ex Vat after cashback. You may well have a specific need for netbooks, but if it was just because they are cheaper then it's definately worth considering laptops again! Steve

We've done ours using a site called wix, its not free, but if you want a flash based site that is really easy to design it's worth a look. I'm not sure it would scale well to a very large site, but for what we wanted its worked well. Our site is at Chyngton Primary School Steve

We've installed the Mitsubishi XL6600U in a couple of Schools now, and been pretty impressed with it. It's a little under £2200, so a touch over budget, but it is 6000 lumens, and we haven't had a single problem with our ones. Steve
